Try Again
I really do like the idea of the physical activity to ward off swine flu. But does it work for the other way around? I can't see why not. I happen to like that idea, too.

| Precautionary measures Posted: 10/4/2009 9:12:53 PM | I think wearing a mask is over doing it. But having lost a spouse who had the constitution of a Bull otherwise to flu I don't mess around about getting my shot every year.
Whenever I go out one of the first things I do when I come home is wash my hands throughly. And while I am out I don't touch things I don't need to. I also tend to avoid crowds and lines where you can't get away from people who are too rude to cover their cough.

last third either a dead or weakened virus that serves to compromise the immune system in the first place.
That's like saying a blank sheet of paper is ruined by writing on it.
The immune system is not compromised by exposure to infectious agents. It's activated.
At this moment, your intestines, lungs, eyes, skin, mouth are a seething playground for millions of bacteria, virus, fungal spores. Many of them with a fatal potential. But you're handling it just fine. Because your "compromised" immune system learned how to deal with them long ago. From exposure.

| Precautionary measures Posted: 10/6/2009 12:07:21 PM | Sorry, think the media's got this way to hyped. Now, I'm kinda missing the terror color alerts! It's always something.................................... Won't be wearing a mask. Getting regular flu shot next week (our company brings in a nurse and everybody gets one) Will have to wait on the swine vaccine to arrive. Our state will probably be last, we are last at almost everything.
Just too hyped

| Precautionary measures Posted: 10/6/2009 7:54:51 PM | | working for the government - you have to know that they get excited about some of the funniest things and find the strangest ways to "teach" us ... this week we all had to go to mandatory pandemic sessions - after 3 hours of listening to the history of this virus and other "famous viruses" .... yep thats right 3 hours - all I can really remember is when you wash your hands (with soap) you should sing happy birthday or say the ABC's ... thats how long you should be washing them .... Now you gotta know we are all adults and I swear I heard a couple people humming in the bathroom later in the day .... Could they maybe have picked a more adult song for us to hum :) | |

See, here in Canada they are thinking that anyone who is over 50 will probably have been exposed to swine flu the first time around in the 1960s, and will probably have pretty good immunity. I heard somewhere, that in Canada there is currently a shortage of protective masks, and that the flu experts are recommending to use protective hockey cups lined up with seamless stockings instead. Anyone over 50 should consider the hard cup over the soft variety.

Cool, unless you sign up for regular but end up with an extra large (or vice versa).

Anyone over 50 should consider the hard cup over the soft variety. So, there will likely be stampedes with long line ups happening at your local Sport Chek or Forzani's or some other sporting goods stores throughout Canada? Who wudda thunk Canada would be making a new fashion statement!

| Precautionary measures Posted: 10/7/2009 10:45:40 AM | After reading the following list of additives to the flu vaccines.... I don't think I want a shot after all.
[In addition to mercury, flu vaccines also contain other toxic or hazardous ingredients like:
Aluminum -- a neurotoxin that has been linked to Alzheimer’s disease
Triton X-100 -- a detergent
Phenol (carbolic acid)
Ethylene glycol (antifreeze)
Betapropiolactone - a disinfectant
Nonoxynol - used to kill or stop growth of STDs
Octoxinol 9 - a vaginal spermicide Sodium phosphate.]
I think I'll pass on it again this year.

| Precautionary measures Posted: 10/7/2009 10:48:06 AM | ^^^I don't know--looks like it might work as some sort of preservative as well as flu vaccine. Maybe it's just the thing. | |

| Precautionary measures Posted: 10/7/2009 1:58:09 PM | I get a flu shot every year and slide through unscathed. The year I didn't get one, 2005, I caught it and let me tell you, it was no joke. I had moments where I almost wished for death...just so the misery would end. Weakened me to the point of contracting viral pneumonia, which was promptly followed by the shingles! Ouch. I don't mess around. I get that shot. The misery of winter 2005 keeps me in line! I don't see the need to take my chances when there's a virtually sure-fire way to beat it. | |
