| Why are women attracted to musicians?
Posted: 11/23/2006 7:44:21 AM | Most of this written has been about guys in bands playing in bars.I was raised by musicians.My parents were gospel musicians who played on TV for 10 years and also in various churches and clubs.Interestingly enough,you see the same drama in churches with musicians that you do in clubs.Not only women after men,but men after women who sing as well.In fact,the reason my dad learned to play an instrument and sing was to get close to my mom.During WW2 my mom was singing at the VFW club in Jacksonville,Florida.My dad was so taken by her beauty and her singing,he told his friend "that's the woman I'm going to marry".He knew that she took her music seriously,even breaking a date with one of the city's most eligible bachelors because he wanted her to cancel a music engagement for him.My dad spent a few months and learned to play the mandolin and sing.They played on radio and TV and in churches and civic centers throught the 1950's and 60's and had a local TV show in Charleston,SC.
In churches,many of those "good church ladies" would try to flirt with my dad and many of those "good deacons" made plays for my mom.Both of parents,btw, had movie star good looks.
I've often thought of writing a book about being the kid of local celebrities in religious entertainment and call it "Gospel Babylon". | |

A true expression, a fearless connection to the other's heart and mind and a profound soul is even more rare. What is rare is valued. A classical musician long ago was followed much like rock musicians are today. Too bad I don't live in the 19C and not because of this, but because there would be more women to understand and to hear the passion within the subtelty of beauty. Yet... here I am. I will play on and create more music before the day and night are done. | |

I'm a musician (well a drummer!) and don't get much attention.
You probably need to do what Tommy Lee did. He married Pamela Anderson and filmed his honeymoon. That got him A LOT of attention!
I'm a recreational musician myself. I say "recreational" because it's just a hobby. I don't play in a band or have any aspirations of becoming a huge rock star. | |

I agree with that. I sing in a number of Barbershop Quartets, one of which is called Just 4 You, and it really draws women in, as not many guys are into singing, but those who are, get the women wanting an autographed CD and Email address to keep in touch.  | |

Okay people, I’m a musician, producer, manager and had my on touring company. The reason woman are crazy for musicians is not about the musician, some musicians are crap and have no talent, it’s because they are the center of attention of the venue, chasing that musician and being seen with him make the woman feel good because they also become the center of attention if they are seen with him.
Yep! Hit the nail on the head - it's indirect fame and popularity that win most women over...being able to get someone alone and intimate that everyone else wants (or so it seems).
Doesn't explain why women chase after these corner bar musicians that don't ever leave the city or get signed to anything and work office jobs during the day...they are great guys but not really a payoff for the groupie type - if you are going to chase after a musician for the fame, why not shoot for the stars?
Then again I never understood why specific women chase after anyone in a club - bartenders, bouncers, DJs, etc etc just for the challenge of it. Strange. | |

IMAQT,we're not all like the typical band guys,some of us actually just do it for a living,fun,or just as a passion to create and perform. I've been a professional musician for almost 15 years,studied it for over 20,and like you....I was raised around it(my mother was a classical pianist). Whether it's performing in a studio,or on stage,there's just nothing like the feeling you get when you can put your emotions and passion into melody. Now granted,I used to be in some big bands that had our "groupies",and for the most part,I behaved Most of the time I was in a commited relationship,so I wasn't as tempted to partake in the "perks". I think that many are just into the confidence that we tend to exude,along with the whole popularity factor. Some girls just love us for the bad boy persona,and look at it as rebelling,or living on the edge. There are band members who do it for the wrong reason (Groupies, spotlight, etc...) and then there are people like me who think of is a my career choice. I hjave a good day job, but music is what I am after. I have played a lot of bars and shows and do not have a ny desire to find a partner at a bar or club. If music is in your heart and you are true to yourself, then it is not the same as a musicial looking for the hookup. Although with that said, there are a lot of opportunities to "hook-up" it is all how you handle yourself and approach your professionalism. I hope that made sense.

I also grew up in a home where music was just about the only bond our family could enjoy. My mother was a pianist/organist while my father could play any instrument he picked up but chose mostly.. the fiddle. He loved to "tamarack 'er down" as he used to say. The problem was that he was also an alcoholic and it didn't help that his musical skills kept free beer flowing in his direction all night long when he played for country dances. He quite loved the admiration that was always flowing in his direction. He could walk into any bar with his fiddle and immediately gain attention, acceptance and admiration. Unfortunately, he couldn't screw off from our home for 2 or 3 years and find the same thing when he decided to return home.
I am also drawn to people who are musically talented because it revives the "better" memories but like my mother, in my most recent relationship with a master fiddler, I found that I, as one single person, could NEVER clap hard enough or loudly enough to match an entire crowd's enthusiasm for my partner's considerable skills. Nor could I afford to keep the booze flowing all evening... And of course, I could never be "a different woman every night"...
It's a different way of life to live with a musician who's playing the bars. Your only hope is to get involved with the other wives of the members of the band. You have to be prepared to either sit with them or sit alone and of course, it does not fly well with Sir Instrument when he's up there playing and watching guys in the crowd hit on their wives.
If you can find your way around all of those obstacles, they YOU are the one who deserves the next round of applause. | |

We've all heard the cliche "groupie". What is it about that guy who plays guitar (or drums or sings...) that drives women wild? We know most guys in bands are "male sluts" and will sleep with just about anything so why are women always attracted to them??
Male sluts huh? I've been playing guitar, bass, drums, and cello (dont ask) for over 20 years now and I have YET to find a woman who wants to get involved with me. lol
Maybe they just all assume I am taken, or just get nervous...but I haven't fallen prey to that particular mythos yet. I'm probably just the exception to the rule though. lol | |

Not all, or even most of them are male sluts that will sleep with anything, I think that's just an unfair statement. People should be judged by their individual character only, not because they happen to play or sing in a band.
I've read somewhere that comedians actually get laid even more than musicians. By your logic, they must really be horrible male sluts! | |

form a musicians perspective, we just dont have fun fun fun. nothing lasting anyway.
Im my younger years, yes, I was a male slut. I've had my fun.
Now that I'm older, I realize, that I didn't take the time for something REAL.
You know, people like us always ask, "does she like me for me, or because I can play"???
Now that I'm looking for something real, the stage is very lonely. as I play the keyboard, I watch people meet, dance, and maybe even fall in love.
But after the gig is over, most if not all the girls have chosen someone, and many have gone home. the only thing I can do is pack up the stuff, and go home.
Its a real bummer sometimes!

I'm there to play music and make money. I'm at my work environment... the last thing i focus on his 'hooking up'. I think about beer before that. I'm in 'work mode'
