You couldn't possibly have made any bad decisions, but you were still with men who didn't think highly of you? Being a musician has nothing to do with anything you're talking about. Some are dogs, some are not.
Would I date one? Some yes, some no. No different than any other profession out there.
Now.. would some take advantage of some easy tail when they had the chance? Yep. Does that make them bad guys? Nope.. just getting what available to them with no strings. Do I respect them for it? Nope. They're still "friends" though... I just would be wary of getting involved. | |

Posted: 12/11/2007 11:44:40 AM | Ive been in and out of bands, and played a variety of instruments over the years.,..and I have seen some of the most disturbingly ugly, talentless hacks get "groupies" on a VERY regular basis....blows me away.
Its all about standards though. As a musician if you play on stage regularly, i is very easy to plow through 500 girls a year...if your standards are low enough!
But this is def no hard and fast rule..plenty of nice girls go to shows, and plenty of great guys are in bands.
Just like the professional criminal, you only hear about the bad ones!! | |

Posted: 12/11/2007 8:24:10 PM | | Everybody listens to music...music makes us happy,it makes us sad,it gives joy,music puts us in touch with our feelings and the guys/gals who play/sing,/dance/or any other art,which is an expression of themselves,is what they are in love with...there is nothing to replace it,be it a woman,money,or any other god...artists do what they are inspired to do,what they have to do,and if you want to come along for the ride,so be it...but,many of them long for a normal relationship like evryone else,matter of fact,some need a normal relationship to keep them secure,not that that is a priority,cos their art is,comes first, like a kid...maybe artists are selfish,maybe they just can't help it,but if you are the other half,you will never be number 1...jmho | |

I don't agree, Most of the musicians I've played with are just happy to just be able to play some music. It takes alot of time play and they're not spending that time chasing women instead they are practicing. | |

Posted: 12/12/2007 3:52:45 PM | I date musicians/artists in general because I am an artist and we "get" each other. Having said that its been my experience that they are not very grounded and reliable -so I try to not date them.
Often times they don't care about sports, if they do its very limited
They have open minds
They have interesting ideas about life, and often times have lived interesting lives
I can have conversations about many topics with them, without fear of the "shhh I am watching the ..." on tv look or comment
They will go to art events, openings, concerts, and there doesn't need to be an arugement
They are typically more open and communicable about their feelings
They are passionate
Typically they have feelings
Typically they are "deep" often contimplating the meanings of things in life, are involved with causes or issues and I love that
They make the world a better place because they bring beauty to it
Now I can't say that about all musicians/artist, just the ones I've dated and I share those same traits so untill they get bored with me it tends to be a harmonious and fun relationship!

I happen to be a musician. I sing at karaokes and parties, and yet the level of attention I get is very limited. Other, better looking and fit guys get girls and have all the attention they want.
It is still an image dominated world unfortunately. | |

But I do play guitar, and me and some friends used to have a regular weekend "get together" for several years in the back of Mike's liquor store (on of the guys), we'd hang out, drink some beer, and just jam away - the rest of us usually got there early, and on occasion we'd have a few college girls that asked "who's that playing" and Mike would invite them to stop back after the store had closed...  (and no, usually they got pretty wasted, we had to help one girl get her passed-out friend into her car - thankfully she wasn't all that wasted, or I'd have had to drive and have someone follow me).
We did talk about maybe hitting an open-mic night a few times, but never did it. Now, one of my friends from that group did wind up joining a band... I dunno, practicing with them 3 nights a week until the wee hours of the morning, he lost one job from being late in the morning all the time, playing "gigs" driving 45 mins each way, at bars where they drank most of their 'profit' away, driving home with a buzz on at 2AM... just not something I've ever really "aspired to" 
On the flip side, most of my GF's have been somewhat "taken" by the fact I can play  , I'm not interested in having 'groupies', but if its a plus on the attraction side for a real relationship, I'm not complaining! | |

for the ones that actually care about the art, and its not just jamming for them, then that is a great description.
I for one have never dated a fellow musician, and really wish i could...never met a girl that was committed to the music, usually just amateurs or "i own a guitar" level players...

Posted: 12/12/2007 6:30:17 PM | I am because I'm not into sports and stuff like that I have a passion for music, kind of a bond already when you know someone dedicates a lot of their time into the same thing,they also tend to be more of a person with "depth" , thinkers, artistic etc..I can learn a lot from them , that I LIKE to learn...music , rather it be useless info or whatever ...Give me any pic of a beefcake jock and compare it too a singer, drummer , string player , hands down the musician will catch my eye, It's just my thing. :)

Other times were on the road for 6-8 months at a time,trying to make enough money for gas and food, and laundry.You play for 40 mins.just to drive another 500 miles or so.Unless your'e rich,or a label has put you up.But as soon as you get back,it's receipt time.Plus you have to pay back the label all it's money they put up for your recording
In the first place.The only upside is, you get to do what you love to do,and you meet some of the greatest people in the world.I had a bumper sticker on my cymbal bag that read,"I play drums for a living,mind if I sleep on your couch?".The good old days. | |

When I was younger, 20's, I had my share. But now...not so much. Worship music isn't really a woman getter, if you know what I mean. When I do a romantic theater gig though...women do dig that. But, I've just always thought they were just being polite. I guess I had no idea when they were flirting with me. My loss i guess. | |
