I would say let your friend know that you really appreciate the gift but sadly, it's a fragrance you are allergic to. Ask if they would be offended if you traded it for another scent or something else. I'm sure they wouldn't mind at all. :-) It also gives you a chance to slightly strengthen that friendship.

Perhaps just explaining that you are allergic to that scent, and would like to EXCHANGE it where your friend got it for a different scent would be an ok way to go. This would also insure said friend does NOT give you something with the same scent again.
Or, simply regift it. Or chuck it. Or yard sale it. E-bay it. whatever YOU want to do. It IS yours to do with as you wish.
