People lie because they are insecure with the truth. It is a character flaw and unacceptable to want to be something that you are not now, nor will ever be which is younger.

Some do age better than others, but weight does age anyone and so does a hairstyle better suited for younger women or men. The hippie look is not attractive at all on people our age, IMO.

Owie, owie Riverkilt! These responses have had to hurt. You've been dealt a mortal blow by some of the posts here.

I have to admit, I am one of those that do believe you look your age....not a day younger.

Hey, you wanna believe the women who told you look much younger than your years? Go right ahead with that. Won't affect me or anyone else in the slightest.

Me? I have both feet planted firmly on the ground. I KNOW that I look my age. I KNOW when someone is just flattering me (for whatever purpose) when they tell me I look younger than what the calendar tells me that I am.

I don't need a fake I.D. to "prooooooove" anything.

To the ladies here that have been, ah uhm, forcefull with the way they burst Mr. Riverkilts bubble? Try a little tenderness....let the man live his dream, huh? What can it hurt?

But, rosebuds57, what can it accomplish? Nothing, therefore, what is the point? He needs to get real with himself first, and then, maybe he will have more success with ladies who are interested in him, regardless of his age.

amethyst. I agree that his self-image is a deluded one, and that he would possibly be more sucessful with the ladies if he became more realistic about himself. But seriously, do you believe that anything "we" say here will give him that lightbulb moment? Maybe, but more likely he will only dig his heels in deeper, if only to save face.

And there have been some posts that weren't meant to be helpful....they were just plain mean. How can that be constructive, or positive? It sometimes appears, to me, that there is this jump on the bandwagon attack mode that happens on-line in the forum format. Not just here on POF, but in other forum sites I see this happen often. If I were a man, it would be a huge turn-off for me (and the same goes for the women too). Just sayin'.

Sometimes, in the interest of being honest, we can go too far and honesty becomes hurtful.

Below is the original post:

Listening to a radio program the other day about the boom in false I.D. for underage kids to "proove" they're 21 so they can get served alcohol.

Got to wondering if there's an untapped market for the providers of false I.D. for us olde folks who wanna "proove" we're younger.

I'm 65 and often get told I only look 40 or 50 something but ladies I'm attracted to in their 40s won't date me because I'm "too old." Well, some ladies that age do date me and I'm most grateful.

Still tempting to get a false I.D. that show's I'm like 52 or something to show the ladies in their 40s who ask how old I am....

You'd think the false I.D. providers would be marketing up at our age too??

Yes yes yes I know its not honest...but it sure is tempting....

I have bolded the paragraph in which the OP asks the question which is the purpose of this thread. I don't see where the OP asked for anyone to give their opinion on whether or not he looked his stated age.

rosebuds, I have to disagree with your statment that some posts were mean - I think they were downright cruel. I often ponder what has gone so terribly wrong in the lives of some peoples that they see the need to publically draw, quarter and hang other people in order to make themselves feel better. If they think they are being smart or making themselves look better to the world, they are the ones that are actually living the delusional life.

Now, back to the regularly scheduled programming .... if a person feels the need to procure false identification, they would not be the type of person that I would choose to surround myself with.

People have been mean to me on the forums at times and it is not constructive. It is not helpful to him to run him in the ground, but it is also a social lesson for him, IMO, to not be so delusional about who he is, and to get real about who he is at this moment in time. What he said about looking young seemed ridiculous to some apparently and they told him so. I do think when you make a statement like that, you better be prepared for the fallout.

Many of us, IMO, do not feel middle-age inside, and it is dismaying to know that our years do show on the outside. Being young at heart is very attractive to me, but being honest is a downright requirement.

Yes, people need to be kinder than what they are at times, but hopefully he will listen to the underlying message to take a realistic look at the situation and live in truth. I also think that most of us on here really are rooting for all of us to have success in our search for a mate and for general happiness.

I didn't go back to read exactly what he said. But if I'm not mistaken, he said he often gets told that he looks younger than his age. There's a difference in one saying what they are told by others, and saying "I look younger than my age".

Until you see this man in person, no one should be disputing that! As far as him needing to take a realistic look, how do any of us know his reality. We can't help how others view us! Some have told him he looks younger. So, we have to assure him that he doesn't? Have you seen him walk, heard him talk, know his personality, know what vibes others get from him? I don't understand the attacks, but they were to be expected. Sadly. How can anyone say he is delusional?

I don't think he should listen to any "underlying message" on here! What gives anyone here the right to think they can change anyone else's reality. People have been mean to all of us (probably) on forums, but I would hope that I would never think that gives me license to be mean to someone else. What is wrong with people, that they go into attack mode so readily?

In fact, he needed to think about how he looked like when he was 40s. The easy thing for him to do is having a comparison of his two similar pictures, one of his 40s and one of his 60s. Otherwise, he needs to see his doctor...

I looked at his pictures on his profile and he looks his age. Here is the thing, he is wanting more success on a dating site and that means that people are going to assess him on his pics. It is not about what he might look like in real life and it is highly unlikely he will look far younger in person. There is nothing wrong with looking like your age group. Nobody expects someone to look younger than their age and when folks tell others that, it is often just flattery. We all love to feel good about ourselves and it is basically harmless as far as I am concerned. I am told that from time to time and I just let it go in one ear and out the other.

What may have turned others off as well is the very thought of someone wanting to even think about getting identification to authentic a lie. Deeper issues here than just not looking younger than your age, IMO. He has got enough self-confidence to stand on the river'sedge with a kilt and a bare belly that has a keg covering the six-pack. He needs to courage to to deal with his true age and the fact that women may or not be open to dating a man in his age range. It is what it is. Hell, none of us are open to everyone, we all have our preferences.

I have no desire to tear anyone down and be mean to them. I was not mean, just honest and if that seems mean, then so be it. I prefer honesty anyday over anything false.

28yo Rusian girl keeps writing to me and sending me pictures and telling me she thinks
of me all the time, I told her I AM TOO OLD AND TOO POOR FOR YOU, tryied to
discourage her in many ways, also because all of the scams going on I conducted
several tests on her, three months ago offer her $10.000,00(as a test) her answer
was I don't need any money, I need a man in my life. And now she is getting a passport
and is comming to meet me in person

______________________________________________________________

AS YOU END THE QUOTE: she is now getting the passport to come visit you,

D'oh that is the scam, if it appears too good to be true - then its not true.

if they would allow us to start a forum on all the scams that have been pulled and the outcome of those scams - you would see why a twenty something wants a lonely old man to fall in love with in the West, cos if it were down to loving an older man who didnt have money or looks, there are lots of them in Russia.

Ageism is a reality. A lot of people fear it, even apparently the OP.

The backlash and the judgmental behavior on these forums I think lend credence to that fear in some sense.

Tinkerbellcgy, there is alot of truth to what you said, I know my reaction was based on his question first ..the idea of someone lying to get someone younger to be interested in them...so I think one just sorta carried over, then when I saw his profession I thought of all the people who should know the effect lying would have it should be him.

Imagine the concept of everyone on a dating site was honest, everyone had their real age posted...what a different world it would be.

Ohhhh pleeeezzze! Give me a break here! I'm willing to bet you and the OP that AS MANY people who tell him he looks 40....that many or more tell me that I look 35. It's STILL BS. Flattering, sure...but still BS. I LOOK 56....ya know how I know that? Because that's what my driver's license says, and I look at 56 in the mirror every damn day...so I'm well acquainted with how 56 looks. Flattery, and politeness are just that.....NOT reality.

There are a lot of folks here who look "good" for their ages...and a lot of them who look like 40 miles of gravel road too.

The backlash and judgmental behavior have NOTHING to do with how the man looks...it has to do with his UGLY vanity, pride, dishonesty and arrogance. And since I'm on a roll...his whining about the 40 yr old women who won't date him. I have to wonder how far the kudos to the ones who DID (date him) would go if they had brains enough to realize that to him they were nothing more than fuel for his overinflated ego?

This thread was nothing but trolling from the get go, and a good lesson that you don't always catch what you'd hoped to!

And while we're at it.....I think even 40 yrs is long enough to have learned to spell "PROVE" ......NOT "PROOVE"....much less 65 yrs.

""Imagine the concept of everyone on a dating site was honest, everyone had their real age posted...what a different world it would be. ""

Well, my profile is honest. I never could lie for shit. Besides, at least two men that I know of for sure [because they told me] who returned my first contacts did background checks on me first.

But there was another site I was on that was rife with scammers. They were pretty easy to spot, and it was fun in a weird kind of way to string them along, then all at once call them on all the mistakes they'd made. I guess to the Nigerians or whoever, all whites look alike. My favorite one was a man who said in his profile that he had black hair and brown eyes and grew up in the midwest. All the photos he sent were of blue eyed blonds - not even the same man, either - and the 'midwest' was eastern Pennsylvania.

"Guys my age - they're mostly old, fat, & boring. Not interested. And guys older than me - forget 'em. Won't hardly consider them. Besides, they're usually lying about their age anyway."

If I ever uttered a comment like this there would be a least 15 women handing me my ass.

I know. So I'll tell you what: I'll say it for you and I'll take the flack.

Most folks over 50 have let themselves get old, fat, and boring and those of us who haven't aren't interested in that. That's why we're more attracted to younger folks.

By the way, you weren't getting that I was being facetious? I was giving OP some sh*t.

Yup, like I said in Message 101 ...
Ladies, I vote that we just all start posting that he really does look 40 ... since that's apparently why he started this thread and wants us to tell him ... eh?

You really do look your age, but if it will make you feel better ... here ya go!

!!!!!!!!Hey everyone ... look at Riverkilt ... look how young he looks!!!!!!!!

I suppose she's right.

Instead of telling the old guy he's delusional, we need to blow smoke up his azz ... make him think he really does look 40.

Sooo ... here's something for good measure. Here ya go big guy ... one more time!!!!

What's sad is to see someone who feels the need to not only stick the knife in, but then give it a real good twist to make sure the damage has been effectively accomplished.

That's what's really sad.

LMAO ... the guy is apparently desperate to be younger ... has a magic mirror that keeps telling him he looks 15 to 25 years younger than he really is then comes in here to basically broadcast it and try to shove it down our throats.

Then some of us are honest ... instead of blowing smoke up his butt ... and that gets ridiculed ... we shouldn't be so cruel (the truth hurts?) and just be more gentle.

So then the appeasement gets posted that he indeed does look to be 15 or 25 years younger (even though his posted pictures do not in any way depict that) ... and that's ridiculed again. People need to decide what they want.

If we're honest with the guy ... we're too cruel. And if we just blow smoke up his butt .. that's not right either?

Seems to me that if the guy had not come in here with such a ridiculous suggestion in the first place ... because he supposedly gets told that he looks 15 to 25 years younger all the time ... no one would have paid any attention to the fact that he's overweight (big bare belly hanging out) and has a head full of long gray hair.

He was seeking attention and he got it.

From the OP (Message 1) ...
I'm 65 and often get told I only look 40 or 50 something but ladies I'm attracted to in their 40s won't date me because I'm "too old."
If I were only 40 0r 50 something, I would not date him. He doesn't say anything about ladies his own age ... I wonder if they think he looks 40 or 50 something?

Still tempting to get a false I.D. that show's I'm like 52 or something to show the ladies in their 40s who ask how old I am....
There is the statement that tells me that he's seeking attention and is dillusional. He really does think he looks younger than 65 and some folks in here seem to think we should encourage that?
