This is not an award that one usually sees within the skits of comedians. Since Obama won the prize it has been the point of many opening late night comedian shows and jokes throughout the media, and internet.

When a person makes jokes about something, it doesn't necessarily mean they are opposed to it.

Sometimes they do. I have personally witnessed this, and also experienced it firsthand.

"The problem I have with your analysis is you believe by giving him the award the Nobel committee will exert some kind of Machiavellian control over his agenda, that essentially Obama will be a puppet to their wishes. There is absolutely NO evidence of this."

Not only do I think Mo is absolutely correct here, I also think the Nobel committee sent a message to the rest of the world... one of support for the United States and this new approach to foreign affairs. Any terrorist must now think more than twice before considering an attack on the U.S.... Obama, by extending the olive branch and strictly following the law, has garnered sweeping international support so any attack against us will be met with international repercussions which will likely result in the overthrow of that terrorist organization. Obama is creating an international posse in which the U.S. will no longer need to stand alone for its righteous defense.

Well... actually...

... it's for "parroting" Alfred Nobel's vision of a world where fraternity between nations is the rule rather than the exception, where there is limited to no need for standing armies and conflicts between nations are settled through diplomacy and conferences for peaceful solutions...

Now... you can colour me silly, but...

...I thought working for and inspiring others towards that WAS noble...

Apparently not everyone agrees ... I am left wondering what thier definition of "noble" is...

..."kicking ass and taking names"?

When a person makes jokes about something, it doesn't necessarily mean they are opposed to it.

And there is no problem with questioning things ... but once a viable explanation has been offered with so much backup information, why keep asking the same question?

As always, excellent comments, greats points and spot on !

Lets face it: the only reason Obama scored the prize is because the folks awarding it are clueless as to what a true global peace maker truly is. Awarding a Nobel Peace Prize for what hes promised (and not yet carried out by the way) is ludicrous and an incredible insult to those who have honorably and impartiallyearned it.
Says I.

"(The 2002 Nobel Peace Prize) should be interpreted as a criticism of the line that the current (U.S.) administration has taken. It's a kick in the leg to all that follow the same line as the United States." -- Nobel Committee Chairman Gunnar Berge on giving Jimmy Carter the Nobel Peace Prize

Wow..just wow. Excuse me while I heave my lunch.

After looking back on who won the prize in the past, this is what I've come to. The prize is basically a [more or less] joke is given out to whoever is Anti-American Right. It doesn't matter what country you're from, as long as you're against American Right Wing thought, you win. And my theory pretty much holds true since 1993.

93 - Nelson Mandela, Frederik Willem, de Klerk - A militant dictator with absolute control and a militant revolutionary with no regard for due process, not to mention he was a murderer

94 - Yasser Arafat - A man who, either himself or through his orders, murdered more than 25,000 Israelis and Muslims

95 - Rotblat - A guy who lobbied and aided in stopping nuclear weapons and the role they played in international politics. The only problem is that the only 2 countries that he actually spoke out about were America and Israel

96 - Don't know much about those guys...

97 - basically more stuff to ban objects of war

98 - John Hume & David Trimble - 2 guys who think they know something about a life and culture. Tried to help...failed....as a result, made it worse....they won

99 - Médecins Sans Frontières - Doctors without borders. I'm ok with this, actually.

00 - Kim Dae Jung - It honestly should have went to either Clinton or Sharon, but it went to a Korean for North Korean reconciliation (i.e. giving them nuclear technology. yep...peaceful)

01 - United Nations - The single biggest United States hater and anti-US propaganda spreading entity ever

02 - Jimmy Carter - For writing a book about how mistreated the Palestinians are. Again, anti-Israel and anti-American Right

03 - Shirin Ebadi - I remember she did things for human rights. And of course, in the eyes of the UN, the 2 biggest human rights offenders are the US and Israel. I guess it helps when the human rights council of the UN consists of countries like Nigeria, Pakistan, Cameroon, Egypt, Senegal, and Nicaragua among other glorious vacation destinations.

04 - Dunno about his person...moving on

05 - Mohamed ElBaradei - Some Arab who wanted to prevent nuclear energy from being used. I think they said for military purposes, but everything any country does can be said to be used for military purposes. It's just a way to make western developed nations dependent on Arab oil.

06 - Muhammad Yunus - Another Arab that helped middle east countries and north African countries get more money. Too bad that money doesn't go to the people of those poor nations. It goes to the militant leader and weapons.

07 - Al Gore - Because, even though 70% + scientists in the world say that Global warming either doesn't exist, isn't being caused by humans or is part of a cycle that don't matter, Some lawyer from the US made a slide show with power point and turned into a 2 hour movie. So give that guy a peace prize....and an Oscar....and a Grammy...and hang me from a tree in Times Square.

08 - Martti Ahtisaari - President of Finland...don't know much anything else about him

09 - He's not GWB, and he makes people feel good.

I'm sure SOMEONE will probably be crying about my sources of this information. I'm just going to say that you should just wiki/google some names and get to reading. Either that or just assume that I'm fabricating this info and move on. lolz

I discovered a similar trend in doing my research over the past 30 years or so the criteria seems to have been reinterpreted to include less tangible things....Funny how all of these super genius Liberals can't see a difference between the accomplishments of most of the early winners compared to the recent winners, strange because Nobels will hasn't changed, just the Political views of the Committees have......

I may be wrong but in my opinion Obama got the award simply for having similar political and world views to the committee members. He accomplished very little if anything tangible to deserve a Peace Prize and the committee awarded it to him hoping that in some way it would influence his future decisions... After all of these pages there has been no proof offered that contradicts my contention..

Well... isn't this interesting...

... so, in order to make your case that the Nobel is about "America-hating" you had to completely omit the fact the Arafat's co-wiiners were two of the greatest "America-haters" of all time. Who were they? They were... wait for it...

Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres

So, apparently, the Peace Prize only means something if it goes to a right-wing, militaristic dictator (as those are pretty much the only people in the world who are "on the same page" as the American right-wing).

And it just SO strengthens your argument when you completely gloss over other winners because "you don't know much about them" rather than actually taking the time to find out who they were and whether thier award supports your contention.

If it wasn't just "sour grapes" before, it sure is now. It's so funny to watch you guys try to "snatch some small crumb from the lion's mouth". It's like watching my grandson try to grab a ball that's way to big for his hand... he tries and tries but each time it slips away until he gets so frustrated that he decides it wasn't worth having in the first place.

edit:

Frederik Willem, de Klerk - A militant dictator with absolute control

Almost forgot this one... de Klerk may have been an assh*le for most of his life but one thing he wasn't was a "militant dictator with absolute control".

There are more "leaks in your dike" than you have fingers to plug.

This is likely true. Being as their similar political and world views are based around peace, I don't see how this is a bad thing.

He accomplished very little if anything tangible to deserve a Peace Prize and the committee awarded it to him hoping that in some way it would influence his future decisions... After all of these pages there has been no proof offered that contradicts my contention..

You seem to have once again somehow failed to see the posts where we show your claims are based only on conjecture and a pre-decided bias about what was in the videos you linked. Be that as it may, you made the claim, the onus is on you to prove your claim is correct. So far, you have fallen far short of that goal.

"The committee wants to not only endorse but contribute to enhancing that kind of international policy and attitude which [Obama] stands for," said Mr. Jagland, a former Norwegian prime minister, said at a news conference."

Actually my "claims" are based on the words of the Chairman of the Committee ....what is the basis of your "opinion"?

No matter how much info is provided your opinions will still only be based on conjecture and pre-decided bias on your part...

Obama supporters argue that only the Committees opinion matters and yet when you are confronted with video and text of the statements made by the Chairman of the committee your Bias leads you to ignore or blatantly misinterpret what they say.

I may have fallen short or it may simply be a matter of your judgment and reasoning abilities being clouded by your fanatical allegiance to Obama...

Umm... dude....

That's exactly what I have been telling you from the beginning... Obama's award is no different from decades of other awards...

No matter how much info is provided your opinions will still only be based on conjecture and pre-decided bias on your part...

Ummm... no, dude....

There is no "conjecture and pre-decided bias"... I've been telling you exactly the same thing that you have attempted to show in the Committee quote... The statement of the Committee is telling you exactly what I've been telling you... how is that "conjecture and pre-decided bias"?

On the other hand, you have tried to paint it as some nefarious attempt specifically intended to interfere in U.S. foreign policy... a specific and intentional effort to subvert U.S. sovereignty...

... Nowhere in ANY statement you have quoted has there been any evidence in support of that...

... It is YOUR "conjecture and pre-decided bias" that sees nefarious intent in this because you "thnk" or "feel" that is the message "between the lines"....

... THAT is the definitive exposition of "conjecture and pre-decided bias".

Again, etourdi, "encourage, endorse, and contribute" (taken from your quotes) is NOT the same thing as control, manipulate, and direct, which is what you're charging with the Nobel committee.

I voted for Obama (I also voted for Bush, btw) and support Obama's international policies and initiatives. Does that make me part of some vast conspiracy to directly influence his actions?

Maybe there is some fundamental issue with understanding here?

The citation from the Nobe Peace Prize Committee was posted eraly in this discussion for people to evaluate their decision. Everybody doesn't have to agree with them, but one wouldn't expect that the anti-Obama side would use this event to spew the usual amount of hate against him for something that he didn't seek.

Where you fell short was in your inability to reason and control yourself. Your first post was very indicative of where you were going in this dicussion:

It is so strange that they gave an award for something that hasn't even been done yet. Kind of diminishes the significance doesn't it? I don't think Obama supporters understand the Worlds perception its not that they Respect Obama they want him to continue de-constructing America and weakening our Position in the World. Its kind of Ironic that another of the worst Presidents, one who caused as much damage to the US as Obama and his policies will also won the Nobel Prize...Jimmy Carter...guess that is a good indication of how much the prize really means....

This also shows that the World sees Obama as the arrogant Narcissist that he is, what better way to manipulate his Foreign policy than to stroke his overinflated EGO....

That was you in your first post. You got the appropriate responses; no more, no less.

Very true, and it is where I ended up to since no one has provided any information that disproves my contentions...we can argue about the words manipulate influence or whatever but the committee chairman made it very obvious by his own admissions that the prize was awarded not based on what Obama had done but on what the committee would like him to do......

manipulate: beguile, conduct, control, direct, engineer, exploit, finagle, finesse, guide, handle, influence, jockey, machinate, maneuver, massage, mold, negotiate, play, play games, pull strings, pull wires, push around, shape, steer, upstage, use synonyms-

Interesting words.
I think many around the world truly feel that the Nobel Peace prize is just such a tool used to hopefully push some leaders in the direction the Nobel Committee wants.
I know, its as if those that they have noticed for exemplary work and vision, and then want others to appreciate and acknowledge them for their work and vision,by giving out an award for such a noble cause as peace is,to then showcase or show honor to those that show exemplary work with their world vision in world peace and actually have the audacity to hope they will continue on their path towards peace. Its as if they ,the committee, actually want them to continue following a path of peace, hard to imagine a peace committee only interested in peace endeavors would want any leader in any country to follow the committees dream of world peace.

Its far more hard to imagine all the ones that bad mouth this and make a comment that a peace committee actually wants the wants of their committee ,and in this case its "World Peace ",Its truly have to imagine !

Its this type of remarks and also those petty hate based remarks on Obamas school pep talk,or the questioning still by the birthers that really showcase that their main thought here is actually the total and complete hate for Barrack Obama. For a handful here this protest here has nothing to do with a peace prize !

These are just a few of the many jokes that are floating around the internet...they don't include some of late night shows or that many news station comments.

Miss America was robbed. She was for world peace way before Obama was for it.

Bill Clinton called and was gracious in defeat; he offered to fly Kanye West over for the Nobel awards ceremony.

Was he, like, the tenth caller or something?

Bill Ayers stated he was "humbled" by the honor.

"Joe the Plumber" immediately asked for his share of the $1.4 million.

Joe Biden remarked, "Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think Barack would win that award."

It was an error in translation; Obama actually won the Nobel Appeasement Prize.

Dr. Orly Taitz remarks, "Now he can afford the lousy 12 bucks for a copy of his birth certificate."

General Stanley McChrystal asked, "How much did you say my military pension will be?"

Yassar Arafat's widow asks, "But how many Jews has he killed?"

Obama is becoming Jimmy Carter faster than Jimmy Carter became Jimmy Carter.

I'd like to buy the world a Coke.

Extreme right-wingers announce a boycott of dynamite.

Bill O'Reilly immediately wondered how he was going to be able to spin the news.

Obama was also awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry. "He's just got great chemistry," says the Nobel Committee.

The Nobel Prize Committee must be staffed by out of work comedy writers.

It was the “Beer Summit” that put Obama over the edge.

The committee awarding Obama this prestigious award had a difficult time making its decision. It almost went to Mickey Mouse for his work with Daffy Duck in bringing talking animals closer together and his vision of a "No Cat" world.

"Yo, Barack. I'm really happy for you. I'ma let you finish. …but Beyonce had one of the best strategic arms treaties of all time."

As the committee made the announcement, once again Joe Wilson yelled "You lie!”

BREAKING NEWS: Obama just won the Emmy for "Best Press Conference." And the Academy just gave him an Oscar for a PowerPoint presentation he's going to make about world peace. And evidently he won a pro bowling contest in Milwaukee, a bass fishing contest in Arkansas, a blue ribbon for the biggest squash at the Iowa State Fair, the jackpot in the Megamillions lotto, and a poetry contest in Sheboygan.

There are sitcoms that aren't as funny as this administration.

Oh I see… it is now the Nobel Hopey-Changey Peace Prize! Is that a tingle I feel running up my leg?

I thought I should have won; I haven't fought with my wife in more than a year.

“Let’s see… I don’t dare keep the $1.4 million that comes with the prize… I could give it to charity. Yeah, that’s it, charity! Half to SEIU and half to ACORN!”

"Barack Hussein Obama! Dyktig, dyktig, dyktig!" (Well, it’s funny if you speak Norwegian.)

Remember, appeasement is how Norway defeated the Nazis!

“Oh, yeah? Well, Tom Delay has better dance moves!”

“What do you think of my new gold medal, Michelle?” “I liked the dookie chain from King Abdul much better—more bling.”

The Dalai Lama complained, "The **stard won't even meet with me… and I got my Peace Prize when he was still sitting at the knee of Reverend Jeremiah Wright!"

We want to congratulate our Dear Leader for winning the Nobel Peace Prize. We hear he is also being considered for the American League MVP, the Heisman Trophy, and an Oscar.
We wish Dear Leader the best of luck in all his great accomplishments.

Awesome! McDonalds new happy meal comes with a Nobel Peace Prize!!!

In breaking news, President Bill Clinton, who has no training in science was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for discovering a way to get a Jewish girl to give a blow job.

It's fitting that Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize after Bush won the Dumb Bell War Prize.......

Oprah's audience experienced shock and awe when each member received a Nobel Peace Prize for Attendance

Barack Obama has won the Nobel Peace Prize for attempting to rid the world of nuclear weapons. In an extremely close vote, Obama beat out my dog Pogo who was nominated for her numerous unsuccessful attempts to catch a squirrel.

Rumors are circulating that newly minted Nobel Laureate Barrack Obama will now be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.. Although the President has never played pro ball in his life, he did wear a White Sox jacket while throwing out the first pitch at the All-Star Game.. Sportscaster Bob Costas snickered, "That should count towards enshrinement?"

Obama just won the Nobel Peace Prize. Appearantly there are 3 categories: Physics, literature, and doing absoultely nothing. Can y'guess which category Obama fell under? Hint: the previous winner of this category was the Pet Rock.

Well this has been eventful debating this, now that the vast majority has shown pages of proof to those handful of the opposed its now extremely apparent Obama won on his merits and that the committee is holding true to their criteria as they have for decades .Sure its not a consensus here because there still is about 5 in the opposition that are not believing any of the proof or anything the opposition has shown them, which is fine. Its clearly been shown that the vast majority here agrees with the peace prize committee that it actually was for his accomplishments not some political statement or a way to piss some people off. They stated exactly what they felt were his accomplishments ! their words were posted several times here !

My only question left is how one person in opposition got a list of nominees .A list that's not to be made public for 50 years.Although it has been brought up 3 times thus far ,he remains mum ! I for one found it odd that just the committee and he has seen this list, seems a valid question,is he related to one on the committee members ?

Because unlike you I research...the Rules of the committee are such that a nominator is allowed to share the information if they like...those on that list were named by the people and organizations that nominated them.Thank you for illustrating how Obama supporters are unwilling to see anything other than what they think will reinforce their position...

Seriously you think you really proved something...this is what you have proven "The committee made the decision" we knew that from the beginning of this thread..Originally the argument was that Obama deserved the prize for concrete accomplishments now it has been changed to Obama shares the world view of the committee therefore the award was given based on that...

As far as any evidence that contradicts my assertion that the committee awarded the prize to Obama in an attempt to somehow influence his future foreign policy decisions...No Proof at all has been offered that adequately contradicts it.Much opinion and criticism but thats about it....
