Whatever he wants... he's damned if he does and damned if he don't... Now if he takes all that money he is gonna get and gives it directly to a needy cause then he will get huge support. If not one only knows..

Excellent question msg 450!
Imagine this scenario... Obama goes before the Committee and refuses to accept the award, chastising them for their blatant disregard by ignoring the meaning of the award and marginalizing it by the politicization of it. The President returns home to accolades and next year the Committee, now properly shamed, award the Peace Prize to someone truly deserving of it, restoring the integrity of the Prize in the eyes of the world. What do you think?

And the charity he was planning to give the prize money to doesn't get it. Does this improve things in your eyes?

Yes they do. Warren Buffet then gives the same charity 10 times the Prize amount as a congratulations to Obama. Everyone makes out.

Ah, so your arguments are based on 'make believe'. Sorry, I prefer that real money goes to the charities.

thanks for asking,I totally disagree with you, what an insult to the Norwegians and their prize, and their choice, and their vision, and their money award, how insulting. They listed his merits for the award.Like I said before,Did Mother Teresa ever end world hunger or even come close,no she was awarded for her work towards it,did the Dali Lama ever create world peace,no not even close, not even a little,it was for his work towards it,Did Obama actually heal the divide between the west and the muslim world,no it was for his work thus far, also they say its for his efforts to scale downs Bushes-era proposal for an anti-missile shield in Europe. They add "All these things have contributed to — I wouldn't say a safer world — but a world with less tension," .

Do you think Joe the plumber could have even a minute effect on that,of course not,its takes a well known leader,a power player,a power person,so when its just a humble soul like Mother Teresa it takes years to get the long deserved notice that she actually is a power person.

If Castro turned around and spent his time on peace and flipped his practice on human rights, ended communism ,I would think he should deserve the nomination,it wouldn't be because of his past, but his remarkable change, something the world would never think they'd see in their lifetimes. The prize often falls on the power players that do the most or m0tivate the most,or their change was so prophetic .I hear Jimmy Carter slammed over stupid stuff like domestic gas wars,he was awarded because so few in this world can sit down leaders of estranged countries and get them to talk, very, very few can do this.

If your little local Hammad Mohammad the pushcart man selling chickens would go to those two leaders and ask them to discuss there wrong and incorrect ways and ask them to change to your ways,Hammad would be shot or hung .Give Obama his props, very few people can get into leaders chambers and ask them to consider change.

Unrelated to the award,Obama has guts also,he will look any leader in the eyes and speak with him, irregardless how much we are against that dictators ways, even Hillary, boy Obama picked a good qualified person, that woman has balls, she will talk to any of those leaders, but Bush, well he was too afraid ,or very wrong in choosing not to deal with his enemies.Bad move to close all communications, its as if he did not understand human relations.

Yes Obama deserved the prize, besides none of you have a clue who the 208 others candidates were, the list does not come out for 50 years.Let me know in 50 years if a better choice was on there list !

Evidently so does the Norwegian Nobel Committee.

Take a look at the video when the announcer said Obama's name the guy in the background was giggling/laughing. I wonder why.

Most of the week was jokes about Obama's Nobel Prize, not just Fox but all the other major networks, and many networks overseas. (just look at previous threads and you will find a slew of jokes and sites for jokes).

Just couldn't resist in adding to the merriment of the award.

"Obama said he will attend the ceremony in Oslo if he's not too busy with the two wars he's conducting." --Bill Maher

"President Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The committee said they gave it to Obama partly for his idealism and commitment to global cooperation, but mostly for calling Kanye West a jackass." --Conan O'Brien

"The Nobel committee said they wanted to recognize the president's fine work in bringing peace to a black professor and a white cop through the strategic use of beer." --Jay Leno

"Along with the Nobel Peace Prize, President Obama also gets $1.4 million. Usually to get a check that big, you need to blackmail David Letterman." --Jimmy Fallon

"In a surprise decision, President Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize Friday. In other premature awards this week: high school football player Billy Reynolds has been named this year's Heisman Trophy winner; fifth grader Amber Collins has been named Miss America; and nine-year-old Dylan Holt has been named People's 'Sexiest Man Alive.'" --Seth Meyers

Conan O'Brien presented a list of the other awards Obama received on Friday:

Oscar for Best Cinematography
2009 Cy Young Award
International Air Guitar Championship
Latin Grammy for Best New Artist
Winner, Ernest Hemingway Look-a-Like Contest
Midwestern Regional Sales Leader for Sub-Zero Refrigerators
Latin Grammy for Best Cross-Over Artist
Winner, The Yoplait Yogurt "Get Fit Dreamstakes"
Best in Show, Westminster Dog Show
Blue Ribbon at the Texas State Fair for Best Corn Relish
Little Miss San Diego
Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award for "Best Kiss"
World's Best Grandma

this is the fifth time you posted this about the guy in the background laughing, your first time was post 35.Boy you really have run out of things to complain about. As far as the guy in the background it looked exactly like he was smiling to a friend, not at all related to the prize and as we all remarked before to you the last time you wrote this,is imagine those in the business of making jokes,were.......making jokes.

Must you post this comment again,we have memories you know .The vast amounts of your posts here have pertained to jokes, you have a few dozen of just jokes,or pertaining to jokes.Looking back over the pages of posts, thats virtually all you have contributed to this thread.

It would be nice if you had something to contribute other than hate or applauding only those that say anything that is hateful. As an observation of all the Obama threads we are on together,I see you put way to much trust and gain to much meaning from a comedians joke or a poll involving a few thousand people,or even a story written on a controversial site.

Smiling..you keep saying you have proven something and I have yet to see anything other than your praise of Obama...There were no facts presented that proved your contention....we have access to the same Info we interpret it differently...No matter how you spin it Obama has done nothing worthy of Winning the Nobel Peace Prize at least not if the committee was adhering to the original intent of Nobel....The accomplishments listed by the committee aren't real accomplishments they are concepts ideas visions words etc......that is where we differ, to me an accomplishment is something that is completed ......a treaty signed, actual reduction of Nuclear weapons, actual troop reduction, ending a war, etc......He did do one thing to bring about peace he got that African American professor and the White Police officer to sit together and have a beer......

Keep up the good work your hatred for President Obama is exactly what will dig the hole for whatever remains of a party bought and paid for by big business, your agenda is so obvious that a 3 year old would recognize it for exactly what it is, a hatred so intense that you are willing to sacrifice every thing including our country to destroy one man. Your hatred will destroy your party

Like I said I will not show again what the committee said was his actual actions,I have rewritten the list already a few times, and this is my last rebuttal about it,You obviously are unable to comprehend it if it went over your head the first time, and the second,ect.,ect.Your game is rooted in hate not reason, your not worth my time, your lack to understand simple things bore me.Long ago you proved to all of us you were here to perpetuate your dislike and hatred on every Obama thread your on,and so you then tell everyone to resend and resend, its like your odd logic of a way to fan the flames. We all get it the first time !

Obama could very well just not accept the prize. He go a step further, show up in Oslo, and give the international equivalent of a giant thumbs down and bums rush to the committee for the entire world to see.

How and if that will “shame” the committee into drastically modifying their behavior is of course fanciful speculation and wishful thinking on the part of critics. I think by next award time it will be yesterday’s news and nothing will substantially change in the way winners are picked, but that’s just me. I could be equally wrong, too. Point being, no one has the right answer.

What critics seem to misunderstand is Obama is under no obligation to purposely insult and embarrass the Nobel Committee just to prove a political point. They gave him the prize, not the other way around. He neither campaigned nor lobbied for it.

Now, an even better scenario would be for Obama to accept the award and illuminate instead of ridicule. Deliver one killer lecture on behalf of all the people striving to make the world a better place, acknowledge he has much more work to do, and allow the prize money to go to charity as proposed.

One thing that does irritate me. Critics have been frothing all over the media about what a joke the prize is because of Obama and some past winners had "no business" winning it, so the prize is tainted. If so, why does it matter if he accepts it or not? If it means nothing, why the emphasis to “show” the world how worthless it is by turning it down? Who cares? Critics can’t on one hand dismiss it as phony, and on the other elevate it to a prestige worthy enough to be rejected.

At this point in the game maybe turning it down would not show anything, for Obama does not seem to be the first that the Nobel Committee has given this prize to based on just words and not actions.

With the announcement of the Obama winning it, people have been taking a more critical look at the prize and what it has become, with many seemly depreciating it as being immaterial as a creditable prize.

If Obama did turn it down graciously it would probably say that the prize has more merit than some have been giving it lately.JMHO

Where intent may have no value to you, it may to others, intent can be very motiovating in fact intent has a great of impact on what actually happens, I could give more credibility to some of what I read if the intent to slander and distort wasn't so obvious. What is obvious is that President Obama's intent is to change the way we deal with the rest of the world, no more shoot first and ask questions later like what occurred under the previous administration in Iraq or what just happened with Rush.

Intent is important and awarding the peace prize to a man who wants to see a peaceful world is a good way to send out a message of hope for the furture instead of a messsage that spells out continued conflict and war. President Obama should have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize the committee made the right choice, JMHO

Your game is rooted in hate not reason
And yours in Love, my opinion is based on MY interpretation of what the committee said and what Nobels will stated. When I watched the video of the Chairman explaining why he gave Obama the prize I marked down the times that lead me to believe what I believe....I explained how I interpreted Nobels words....If you don't agree thats cool.....

Are we all supposed to give in to your Love induced frenzy for Obama and just quit thinking for ourselves? Isnt that what they did in Guyana?

Seriously, you believe that you have made such an irrefutable argument but you have little to offer other than your opinion...The video of the Chairman explaining the committees choice is a sufficient basis for my Opinion...

What it boils down to is you think he deserves it because this is how you see Obama..." we that saw Obama as a brilliant Savior"

That will be the day. Obama rejecting the Nobel Peace Prize just to appease the anti-Obama mini-group of two or three pseudo intellectual punks in POF forums! Those who can't bring their hate toward this man under control, and celebrate the honor that this award is bringing to our country.

Quite the opposite! President Obama will step up to receive the most prestigious award in the world, and he will convey a message of peace and hope to the whole world.

Get over it!

Critics can’t on one hand dismiss it as phony, and on the other elevate it to a prestige worthy enough to be rejected.

I would imagine Obama in his speech will continue with the humble talk he has done since day one of receiving it,where he essentially said in effect that he considers this a prize for America, one expects him to offer the praise to others rather than ever boast himself, its his nature. What do some of you think ,that it will be anything other than humble pride and a bar we will strive for,a mark we will aim for.It will be no different than his what was expected to be a radical socialistic ideology pep talk to school children, and then it happens its just a "study hard and set goals" speech as most of us tried to convince the haters that is what it would be.Obama will be true to his nature in this speech. He will set a mark for the world to strive for,he will say thats its his hope that the world will continue to work towards understanding its neighbors to open dialog and continue towards peace. It will be something along those lines,Not once, will he say,"Oh look at me,look at me"

Like sand shifting in the wind...

So now that the "Obama's award is a mockery of Nobel's vision and means nothing" argument has unceremoniously crashed and burned it's now "the award was cheapened decades ago and means nothing".

"The Fox and the Grapes" comes home to roost.

If Obama did turn it down graciously it would probably say that the prize has more merit than some have been giving it lately.JMHO

You mean Obama has the immense personal power to accomplish this single-handedly?... JUST by refusing it?...

... the "undeserving" man has the power to elevate the "meaningless" to such lofty status?...

... but doesn't that power and ability, in itself, lead inexorably to the conclusion he DOES deserve it?

...only if one knows what 'inexorably' means...

I crack me up.

The man is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

It was swell of the NPC to laud Obama's efforts to gain world peace.
It was swell of Obama to announce that the money would go to charity.
It would be really swell if the teabaggerbirthersObamahaters could find a legitimate reason to teabagbirthhate the man.

like that will ever happen.

As usual you have oversimplified...the argument hasn't changed those of you who are in the Obama tank think he won it because of his sheer awesomeness, others questioned the win.....at the time of his win many of us had no idea what criteria the Nobel Prize committee used to determine a winner...because we were curious about what concrete accomplishments Obama had that warranted such a Noble Prize we began researching....as we researched it became evident that the award was not what most of us had thought it was, most laypersons wrongly believed that the award was based upon a lifetime of work or an accumulation of concrete accomplishments that were consistent with the criteria that Alfred set forth in his will....we have subsequently learned that the Nobel Peace Prize is sometimes awarded to persons who simply personify the ideals and beliefs of the Present Nobel Prize committee and Concrete accomplishments become more hypothetical or theoretical with most emphasis being based on what the committee thinks/hopes the Winner will accomplish in the Future....in researching past winners one notices a distinct difference in the substantialness of the accomplishments of the early winners in comparison to many of he more recent winners....

In the end those of you "that saw Obama as a brilliant Savior" will continue with your unquestioning support of anything that Obama is involved in. While those that see Obama as no more than an Ordinary Politician will continue questioning things that seem outlandish.

but doesn't that power and ability, in itself, lead inexorably to the conclusion he DOES deserve it?

Based on the liberal interpretation of Nobels will employed by the committee I would say that your statement is at least as sound as any reasoning offered by the Committee to justify Obamas Gift..
