Interesting your statement has so many laughing faces. Many were wondering why the guy behind the announcer seemed to be laughing.

Well without a source for why the man behind the counter was laughing we can only guess, maybe he was as happy as I was to hear that President Obama had won the NOBEL PRIZE

Maybe like me he was imagining the reaction from the party of NO

I don’t know, not having been there and not seeing all the facts, but I think it’s fair for any of us to ask... number 1 - “What for?”, number 2 - that the Norwegian Nobel Committee acted stupidly in awarding the Peace Prize to someone who, by their own admission, doesn’t deserve it and number 3... what I think we know, separate and apart from this incident, is that there is a long history of the Nobel Peace Prize being devalued to the point of being nothing more than a political tool. That’s just a fact.

^^^^^^^^ As devalued as the prize may be in your opinion, what does it tell you about those who are nominated but don't receive it? Do you think that those who weren't deserving enough of the prize, in the decision of the awarding committee, were treated unfairly, or were victims of political vendettas?

I would like to know about those cases. Do you have any information to share here?

I don't think Obama supporters understand the Worlds perception its not that they Respect Obama they want him to continue de-constructing America and weakening our Position in the World

Don't know on what you base that statement but I can tell you, from travelling outside of the country and speaking with many people who live or travel outside of the U.S. that the rest of the world is breathing a sigh of relief after eight years of a President who came across as uncurious, belligerent, and had little interest in cooperation with others.

what I think we know, separate and apart from this incident, is that there is a long history of the Nobel Peace Prize being devalued to the point of being nothing more than a political tool. That’s just a fact.

Sorry, but no matter how strongly you feel about your opinion, what you stated was an opinion and not a fact.

I'm hearing some people are pissed, well good! Means we're doing something right!

Since your stated goal is to piss people off, I'll assume you'll never be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.
But then again...

He deserves it,its exactly how I see him,why I voted for him,I just thought that those that didn't see how great he was from day one were a little on the slow side,if you know what I mean.In fact as they argue against him each day, they make me wonder even more about their intelligence, they seem to confirm my thoughts daily and if it weren't so sad it would be laughable.

Checking the on-line polls “Does He Deserve It? - Yes, No, Too Soon, Don’t know”, the ratio of No to Yes is running greater than 2 to 1. (msnbc, cbs, aol, Baltimore Sun, et al). Only the Huffington Post has Yes 45%, No 35% (big surprise there). That’s a lot of ‘slow’ people out there (if you know what I mean).

Gandhi was nominated many times and never got it while Arafat did. Obama was nominated after 11 days in office. Yup, he did a lot. Teddy Roosevelt was not exactly "peace" oriented yet started the tradition of the Nobel prize being used for political statements about US presidents. If Wilson had not handled the "peace" after WWI the way he did, there might not have been a WWII. Ronald Reagan was largely responsible for ending the cold war. Should that alone have been worthy of the prize? He was largely responsible for reversing the malaise of the Nobel winner Carter. So is Obama going to "live up" to the Carter years of impotent foreign policy, double digit inflation, double digit unemployment, energy shortages, etc.? So far, it looks like he is on track to surpass Carter in just about every category.

I think that, in some ways, Obama's a good choice for the award.

Yet, I still find it strange that an American President would win a peace prize at a time when America is still in Iraq as a hostile occupying force.

We are fortunate to have a President at this critical time in the history of our country, I will let you read his response to being selected to receive the Nobel Peace Prize

This morning, Michelle and I awoke to some surprising and humbling news. At 6 a.m., we received word that I'd been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009.

To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who've been honored by this prize -- men and women who've inspired me and inspired the entire world through their courageous pursuit of peace.

But I also know that throughout history the Nobel Peace Prize has not just been used to honor specific achievement; it's also been used as a means to give momentum to a set of causes.

That is why I've said that I will accept this award as a call to action, a call for all nations and all peoples to confront the common challenges of the 21st century. These challenges won't all be met during my presidency, or even my lifetime. But I know these challenges can be met so long as it's recognized that they will not be met by one person or one nation alone.

This award -- and the call to action that comes with it -- does not belong simply to me or my administration; it belongs to all people around the world who have fought for justice and for peace. And most of all, it belongs to you, the men and women of America, who have dared to hope and have worked so hard to make our world a little better.

So today we humbly recommit to the important work that we've begun together. I'm grateful that you've stood with me thus far, and I'm honored to continue our vital work in the years to come.

Thank you,
President Barack Obama

Many of those who mock this are just jealous because bush didn't win the Nobel Prize for Starting Unnecessary Wars. After all, bush worked so hard for that one. But at least bush is still eligible for the Fiction prize.

I agree with you 110%, Your right, those NO people are very slow to recognize the brilliance, integrity and love that President Obama has for his family, his country and for the world
That's what I mean,My god he just staved off a depression, many republicans said it was just the economy healing itself, lol.he is working on the health crisis, global energy, our infrastructure, our schools, jobs, ect. ect..I can tell you when I saw on what level of petty some of the haters were at when they vehemently protested a pep talk to our school kids from the leader of the free world, thats when I really thought that if this was just 20 years ago a quarter of the haters would have stood tall in their Klan and Aryan outfits, now they are not vocal in public and don't display outfits yet do protest things as petty as pep talks,it would really get nasty if he drank out of their water fountain, then there are the other 3/4 of them that I guess are blind or just blindly root for there team, even when they know there hometeam is losing and always lose, they still proudly root for them, they loved Bush, they still do,I mean this is all his work after all,the banking industry and Bush, they loved McBush I mean McCain, they support every half brained idea or obstacle the republicans currently throw up at us.

I can only compare it to a cigarette lobbyist where they know everyones going to die from the cigs yet financially it is in there favor to support but ignore the rest, like now with not taxing the rich,or doing there best to make sure those uninsured stay uninsured, and protesting that its better to have $8 dollar a piece pills rather than force the industry to make it affordable, heres one that kills me,to stay happy with the fact that we are only only country that does not cover all our people, yet ironically are the richest of the bunch,or not proceeding with alternative energy when its widely accepted that we have from 2 to 4 decades left of oil.In the past happy with 15 MPG when they were getting 60MPG many many decades ago, thanks oil lobbyists,so now,I mean really,it has to be for reasons like that, sure some like my mom voted for Bush solely because he portrayed himself a better Christian than Gore, lol, mainly its about keeping those tax breaks, keeping that trickle down process, people aren't really that inept are they.

Why is it we that saw Obama as a brilliant Savor, and one that has tackled so many things in ten months,is also seen the same way by the world. We just went from disliked, thanks to Bush, and untrusted all over the world,to now being the country where they want to take our president and put him dead center of all the pictures at these events.Every country wants on our Obama bandwagon. Why because he is the only one that thought of helping earth,"everyone",as if we are connected, which we are,are pollution soars over the oceans so does other countries. Our money crisis crippled the world,we are connected.

At the end of the Election in 08 Obama in 16 polls varied 50 to 55% in favor to him and now ten months later his approval according to many polls this week are a spread of 50% to 56%, shows that those that liked him then still do and those that don't and never did, still feel that way.Obama deserved a peace prize for his visionary world views and world goals,it must make the haters so frustrated to see that even the world feels as we do here. You know many leaders are like a Saddam and we are lucky enough to have a leader like Obama,it would be nice to think that some day the republicans can wake up from this fog they have been in for many years, where they see a pool of clear blue water but in reality its actually a cesspool.

They have had control for like 19 years and look where it got us.

and love that President Obama has for his family, his country and for the world
I guess 2 out of three isn't that bad..a more accurate assessment would be love of his family, the world and himself........No matter how this is spun no sane non Kool aid drinking person thinks that Obama deserves the Nobel Peace Prize....He was nominated 11 days into his Presidency doesn't that seem strange to anyone? I guess the Power of Kumbaya, Hatred for Bush, Global dislike of America and a President who enjoys putting down his Country on the World Stage can actually Win Someone a Nobel Prize for speakin sum Purty Words.....Obama is a joke...If he had any cajones at all he would have been a man and told the Nobel committee that he was honored to be considered but that he really has yet to accomplish anything that is worthy of such a prestigious award....but his arrogance and narcissism won out as usual...He is not worthy of anyone ones respect after Accepting an award that he did not earn.....The Man has no Shame......

Thats funny I just read the post where a Kool aid drinker said Obama deserved the peace prize for his visionary world views and world goals....Unfortunately for the poster Obama has yet to accomplish anything, much less his lofty goals.............thats right up there with a Jobless economic recovery...WTF?

Its interesting that it not just conservatives that are saying WTF.
Media people from CNN, NBC, ABC, and tons of overseas paper are wondering WTF. Some are even saying that this has really degraded the reward. Maybe next year but so far Obama really has not done anything to merit this reward.

The award was meant to be a well deserved slap in the face for Bush. Everything Bush was, Obama is not, and the world is thankful for that. Under Bush, the world looked at the United States with the same long eye that once was reserved only for the Soviets.

I was a Republican and Bush supporter up until the day the United States invaded Iraq. On that day, I was ashamed to be an American. Now, with Obama in the White House, I can be proud once again. As far as having once been a Republican, well, seeing what a group of fools and buffoons the leaders of that party has become, I figure it is likely I will always be ashamed of that.

You are entitled to your opinion, but for me any hundreds of millions from all around the globe he gave us hope that maybe one day we won't have to send our sons and daughters off to some foreign land to fight for whatever is the current flavor of the day.

Thank you for your honesty. My 79-year-old dad, while never a Republican, did vote for GWB the first time. He felt terrible regret and anger when our soldiers were unnecessarily sent to Iraq and he certainly didn't make the same mistake at the polls twice. Last fall he was out in front of the polling place in his Teamster hat, working the voters for Obama.

As for the Peace Prize, well I'm thinking the Nobel committee was still heaving a huge sigh of relief, considering that this could've been the alternative:

Yes, our humble, hopeful, honorable, visionary, capable and inspiring president deserves the gratitude and respect of the world, never mind that of our own citizens! Those of us with any sense treasure him!

My god he just staved off a depression, many republicans said it was just the economy healing itself, lol.

Actually isn't it dems who keep saying "Eight months isn't time to get anything done."? But yet somehow miraculuously he has staved off a depression? Okay boss.

he is working on the health crisis, global energy, our infrastructure, our schools, jobs, ect. ect..

So maybe he should slow down and try to actually conplete one task before attempting 19 others.

And watch out kids, here comes the race card:

I can tell you when I saw on what level of petty some of the haters were at when they vehemently protested a pep talk to our school kids from the leader of the free world, thats when I really thought that if this was just 20 years ago a quarter of the haters would have stood tall in their Klan and Aryan outfits, now they are not vocal in public and don't display outfits yet do protest things as petty as pep talks,it would really get nasty if he drank out of their water fountain,

Hooray for stooping to dem tactic number 72 on the above diatribe there Smiling.

I mean this is all his work after all,the banking industry and Bush, they loved McBush I mean McCain, they support every half brained idea or obstacle the republicans currently throw up at us.

You have the majority, Einstein. What obstacle are the dems trying to overcome? Their own ineptitude?

I can only compare it to a cigarette lobbyist where they know everyones going to die from the cigs yet financially it is in there favor to support but ignore the rest, like now with not taxing the rich,or doing there best to make sure those uninsured stay uninsured, and protesting that its better to have $8 dollar a piece pills rather than force the industry to make it affordable

So you'd rather have free pills that no research goes into because we can't afford to pay for that research, or do you think lab techs are going to volunteer to do it? Think a bit. The reason drugs cost money is because it takes years of trial and error to get those drugs right. The reason so many people are against this stupid health care reform is because those people without health care could be covered under what we have now for less than what this silly bunch of BS is proposed to cost (and will probably end up costing ten times projections if the usual government under estimations take place).

heres one that kills me,to stay happy with the fact that we are only only country that does not cover all our people, yet ironically are the richest of the bunch

Every country in the world provides health care for it's people? When did Africa start up doing that? But as far as that richest comment goes, don't worry Smiley, Obama will soon fix that as he quickly turns us to third world status with his stimulus packages.

or not proceeding with alternative energy when its widely accepted that we have from 2 to 4 decades left of oil.

Wouldn't be that way if the crybaby dems would shut up and let us drill. There's plenty out there.

like my mom voted for Bush solely because he portrayed himself a better Christian than Gore, lol

And a lot of people voted for Obama solely because he wasn't Bush (and many are regretting it). Your point is?

mainly its about keeping those tax breaks, keeping that trickle down process, people aren't really that inept are they.

Sorry Smiling, there are no more tax breaks, there is no more trickle down. You have to have money to have those. Unfortunetly Obama is spending all we have at an alarming pace. He is making Bush look like Scrooge.

Why is it we that saw Obama as a brilliant Savor, and one that has tackled so many things in ten months,is also seen the same way by the world.

Who is we? What is a savor? You mean savior? If God does exist the difference between him and Obama is God doesn't think he IS Obama. He may be tackles a bunch of stuff, but he isn't getting anything done. Obama has too big of ego to admit defeat on anything, so he changes direction when he can't accomplish anything.

We just went from disliked, thanks to Bush, and untrusted all over the world,to now being the country where they want to take our president and put him dead center of all the pictures at these events.

Except the Olympics, right? I do however wish some other would take him if they want him so badly. At least half of this country doesn't want him.

Every country wants on our Obama bandwagon.

Stop, you are killing me. I can't type when I'm laughing this hard. Half of those countries want us on plates for breakfast, they are lapping this up, bidding their time until they strike.

Obama deserved a peace prize for his visionary world views and world goals,it must make the haters so frustrated to see that even the world feels as we do here.

Nah, they are laughing about this too. I hear he's up for Best in Show at Westminster next year too. Rahm wants to exume Bert Parks for Obama's Miss America award too, because no one else is worthy to sing the praises of Obama (well they may settle for the school kids in New Jersey....MMMMmmmmm Mmmm).

You know many leaders are like a Saddam

Like all the ones that are so happy we have an Obama in office.

it would be nice to think that some day the republicans can wake up from this fog they have been in for many years, where they see a pool of clear blue water but in reality its actually a cesspool.

It's a cesspool alright. You got it perfectly on that one.

They have had control for like 19 years and look where it got us.

Yep, look where it got us. Or more appropriately WHO it got us. Mmmmmmm Mmmm. Sing it kids, while you're still allowed to sing.

It has been a long day for the Obama haters. In my opinion, it is not too early to honor the president's many efforts to repair the damaged prestige of this country, and at the same time establish us as the leader in pursuit of world peace. The honor may have been given for effort only, but he gets an A for effort. -Proud American

I appreciate you proving me correct, you were right on cue and with not a single correct response from you,its amazing that your thought on each item was so off,you are exactly why Bush was able to last 8 years and why the republicans still have a fan or two,its as if you think you know whats going on but seem to have a unique republican slant on everything happening, its kind of sad,its your backwards off base thinking that kept us in Bushism for so long, deep down your jealous as can be because Obama has done more than Bush so far in a few months than in Bushes eight years, infact I have no idea why Bush is always compared,it like judging an actual president to an ex inept president that caused war crimes after starting a false war then ruin the country and took down several other countries economies and ruined our relations with most other countries too,Obama would be better compared to a better type of president like a FDR,Eisenhower or Kennedy, but certainly not a loser country destroyer like Bush.

Obama gets the Nobel Peace prize for being an outstanding person and visionary and Bush, well he's still in hiding isn't he,we have heard almost nothing from him since he escaped office in total disgrace ,its also sad that you cannot see that all the talk when Bush left was certain depression and within like 6 months the Depression was said to have been averted on the nightly news after he had turned Wall street around into the positive signals not the negative .

Just some friendly advice, you might want to open your eyes and get a clue to whats actually going on,Nobel Peace prizes have never ever at any point been given away on a whim without a great reason or for a great action. Its proof of what a brilliant person he is and sadly, proof of how impossible it would be to have someone like you understand it.

Well, this certifies it for you! You are comparing the US with the countries of Africa and other Third World countries. That is foolishly absurd!

There is an old saying that fits like a glove to your post, something about the idiots' consolation in shared suffering, specially when there is no feeling of compassion in their hearts.

Ronald Reagan was largely responsible for ending the cold war. Should that alone have been worthy of the prize?

I hate to break the news to you, but Ronald Reagan wasn't a man of peace. Everyone, almost everyone except the ideologically blind, would know that the way he went about escalating the arms race was more intent in seeking domination than reaching peace. He was very trigger happy, and the people who award the Nobel Peace Prize knew that.
