This is pure garbage...The obama followers refuse to see the truth..HE HAS DONE NOTHING BUT GIVE LIP SERVICE...he has accomplished NOTHING...
If he had deserved the award...I would congratulate the man...but as it is...he and the Nobel prize committee are a shame and a blight to Alfred Nobel.

Not surprising...

the "antiliberals" of America have b*tched and whined and declared the prize meaningless since it was given to Desmond Tutu.

They b*tched about Tutu, they b*tched about the Peace-keeping Forces, they b*tched about the Dalai Lama, they b*tched about Gorbachev, they b*tched about Mandela, they b*tched about Arafat, they b*tched about Jody Williams and the Campaign to Ban Landmines, they b*tched about Annan, they b*tched about Carter, they b*tched about El Baradei and they b*tched about Gore.

Like I said, not surprising. Plus ca change, plus ce la meme chose.

Oh, you don't know? Negotiation, diplomacy, and such efforts are pointless and dangerous. Charging into other countries and killing everyone who might be different is the way to go.

I went looking on the Fox website and could find nothing on this story. Which to me says a lot more about Fox than Obama.
Let's see, the President of the United States wins a Nobel Peace Prize. Is this news? Nawwww.
Yup, Fox wouldn't know news if it hit them in the face.

Here are just two articles and I know for a fact it was brought up on almost everyone one of their shows; like Shephard, Greta, Hannity, Glen Beck, O'Reilly, and Obama's garden speech was even aired on Fox.

Only reason I brought up Fox was that everyone here seems to condemn with we back up our posts with Fox. Well it seems as to the Nobel Peace Prize that many of the media personal are wondering WTF Obama did.

"Its crazy how Kool aid drinking Obama supporters think its ok to award a prestigious prize to someone who has yet to do anything."

It's kind of funny... Obama didn't ask for the recognition, no one we know nominated him for it, Obama clearly stated he doesn't feel he's done enough yet... and still we have these comments berating Obama and supporters because it was awarded.

If you haven't noticed... no one on this forum was on the selection committee so to say that Obama doesn't deserve it is ludicrous... WE DON'T MAKE THE RULES OR THE DECISION regarding who gets it! If the folks that award it believe that he deserves it, then guess what, he deserves it! How is it that any of us have anything to say about whether he should have gotten it or not? WOW! Chit... it's not your money, it's not your prize, it doesn't effect your life... GROW UP!

As for kool aid... it's a heck of a lot better than the thought of shaving my head and gargling then regurgitating the holy water gospel of the Christian conservative right and their talk radio heroes. Heck... maybe that's why Obama got the prize... because he's showing the Christian conservative right what living according to Jesus really means!

Just had to comment on Dmotz mentioning that Rush had been nominated for a Nobel.

The only problem is that he never was. Some other whacko said that he had nominated Rush, but there are only a select number of people in the world who can nominate. Just like nobody who would nominate Paulie Shore for best actor is actually able to, nobody who would nominate Rush rises to the level of a person who is allowed to.

And I'm someone who thinks it was a bad decision. I just don't think the radical, extremist right in America understands how much damage W did to your country around the world. This is pretty much a reaction to the end of that evil.

Nice.......typical tactics exhibited by the Left can't justify his win with logic and reasoning so you need to marginalize and ridicule those who base their opinions on common sense. It is sad to see so many seemingly intelligent individuals resort to juvenile tactics such as name calling when their pitiful attempts at debating a losing position fail. Seriously no one who thinks that Obamas win was unwarranted is against Peace or diplomacy. What we are against is a Foreign committee trying to Influence American Foreign Policy by pandering to our Narcissistic Presidents Over inflated Ego...Your side has no credible justification for his win........What has he done that is worthy of the Nobel Prize?

I wonder if Jimmy Carter is the one who Nominated Obama?

"Committee sends out invitation letters to individuals qualified to nominate – members of national assemblies, governments, and international courts of law; university chancellors, professors of social science, history, philosophy, law and theology; leaders of peace research institutes and institutes of foreign affairs; previous Nobel Peace Prize Laureates; board members of organizations that have received the Nobel Peace Prize; present and past members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee; and former advisers of the Norwegian Nobel Institute."

The Plot thickens---
Aagot Valle, a lawmaker for the Socialist Left party who joined the Nobel committee this year, said she hoped the selection would be viewed as "support and a commitment for Obama.
"Those who were in support of Bush in his belief in war solving problems, on rearmament, and that nuclear weapons play an important role ... probably won't be happy," said Valle.

Like I said he is becoming a Global puppet---
"In Europe and much of the world, Obama is praised for bringing the U.S. closer to mainstream global thinking on such issues as climate change and multilateralism."

This is why people are questioning why Obama won the award after only being on the job a few weeks--
"In his 1895 will, Alfred Nobel stipulated that the peace prize should go "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between the nations and the abolition or reduction of standing armies and the formation and spreading of peace congresses.""
It should also be noted that the award is supposed to be based on what they did the preceding year....

Some of this years nominees-Look these people up and you will see a group of people that have done more than give speeches.....they have actually DONE something to deserve the Award...

This thread is pretty funny... Up to 5 pages already because his nomination is a complete joke, and everyone knows it. He's done nothing to deserve it, and that is OBVIOUS... I mean, the entire room GASPED when it was read... It's like giving an Oscar to an actor because we THINK they will do great movies somewhere down the line...

So now the conservatives are laughing about what a joke it is, and deep down even the liberals know it really is, but still feel compelled to desperately defend it, thus the 5 pages of commentary thus far, and this just happened...lol!

The real shame here though, is it has now all but trivialized the Nobel Peace Prize. Passing over so many people who actually WERE deserving of the award shows it's become little more than a highly politicized tool of the European liberal elite...

Just thought I'd throw in a world perspective here and just to show its not about domestic US politics - shame on the Nobel committee who have devalued the Nobel Peace prize. Some of us have been debating this, and one view is that he must have been awarded it for having the cop and the academic for beers. Maybe if I organised beers, I could get the prize too!!! And the million bucks!!!

Why are you faulting and criticizing the president for being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize?

Not faulting him, saying it was just a ploy to influence American foreign policy and only faulting Obama for accepting it.

Be honest. You have been faulting Obama for everything he's done, while constantly asserting that Obama hasn't done anything. Here's just a sample of the bitterness you have been pouring into the thread

This also shows that the World sees Obama as the arrogant Narcissist that he is

a more accurate assessment would be love of his family, the world and himself

a President who enjoys putting down his Country on the World Stage

Obama is a joke...If he had any cajones at all he would have been a man and told the Nobel committee that he was honored to be considered but that he really has yet to accomplish anything that is worthy of such a prestigious award....but his arrogance and narcissism won out as usual...He is not worthy of anyone ones respect after Accepting an award that he did not earn.....The Man has no Shame......

I guess other people in the world realize how narcissistic Obama is and what better way to insure that he advances their world view than to cater to his over inflated EGO

Sorry, but I don't believe Obama really has any idea what the average American values are.................

My favorite is

Obama has yet to accomplish anything

You can't decide if Obama has nothing, or has been busy destroying the nation. You keep obsessing about Obama's "worldview" but you still wonder why he won the Nobel Peace Prize.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, then open ones' mouth and prove it.

5 pages so far because of having to respond to idiotic comments like yours that lack any merit just pure hate at ones mans award. At first it was just compliments, then your type crawled out,the rest is history, and as for Rush being nominated, yes its true a foundation named Landmark Legal Foundation nominated Rush Limbaugh for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. And I say so what,a foundation put in a thumbs up,thats hardly meant they would award him,you need to be incredibly special to actually win, look at all the winners.Oscars, nice try,not even close, bad attempt at a comparison,Its really dumb to protest this its shows what level your at.Hows Georgia this time of year ?

That is absolutely correct. And if Princess Diana had been named in 1997, when the Campaign to Ban Landmines won the prize, they would never stop b*tching about her either.

As we have already seen in this topic, they are b*tching because their heroes never got the prize even though they were nominated, first Richard Nixon, and then Ronald Reagan. Forget about the Bushes. But they will never cease whining about the first two mentioned here not getting the Peace Nobel Prize. That would be a hard sell!

Yes, Obama has given a lot of speeches, and even made some important phone calls, hosted or attended important meetings, and generally TALKED to people as part of the process of MAKING AGREEMENTS with people about global initiatives and important international issues. Newsflash: This is what the American President DOES as chief executive of our government and "decider" in matters of foreign policy. And in his first nine months as president, he has been more effective (and more ACTIVE) doing this than the previous president was in all his eight years. In short, he has been EXTREMELY effective in rebuilding alliances and mending bridges between the US and other people living in this world--bridges DESTROYED by the previous administration.

Here's a list, for those who want to peruse it, of achievements accomplished just during his first 100 days in office--and obviously he's been in office significantly longer than that at this point.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ilan-goldenberg/100-days-100-foreign-poli_b_191832.html

But even apart from HUGE practical achievements, like the restoration of our relationship with NATO (and thus NATO's engagement in Afghanistan), his leadership among the G20 in securing global cooperation confronting economic crisis, his commitment to ending our military engagement in Iraq, his decision to close Guantanamo prison and end our use of torture, his proactive work toward agreement with Russia on mutual reductions in certain kinds of armaments, and his recent FULL participation in talks in Geneva WITH Iran, leading to a preliminary agreement by Iran to agree to IAEA inspections..... not to mention his proactive approach to the issue of global nuclear disarmament AND engagement on global environmental issues.....

....Even apart from these things, for those turning up their noses at the importance of speeches, WORDS MATTER. RHETORIC MATTERS. It MATTERS that Obama has so fully committed himself to language and behavior that promises GLOBAL cooperation. It MATTERS HUGELY that he has rejected the kind of rhetoric, SO abused by the Bush administration, vilifying the Islamic World and inflaming anti-American sentiment.

What about all this is difficult to understand? It's got to be MUCH HARDER to get people interested in "America--hating" (and thus anti-American terrorism, for example), when American representatives don't act in ways making people hate us. The speeches in Cairo and Turkey, for example, MATTERED--it was HUGELY important that our president went to mainly Islamic countries and made televised speeches CLEARLY expressing his desire to reach out to Islamic people. It MATTERS that he has stated, unequivocally, that conditions in Palestine are intolerable and that Israel MUST remove its settlements from Palestinian territories. It MATTERS that he's capable of asserting American interests WITHOUT coming off as unilateralist or bullish. And it MATTERS that these things are WORKING--that people around the world are excited about this presidency and, perhaps more importantly, America's new, responsible engagement in the world.

It is perfectly legitimate to argue that the Nobel Foundation should have chosen a different recipient for this award, but in doing so one should be able to engage with the PRINCIPLES expressed by the committee awarding the prize in their press release. The question shouldn't be whether OBAMA deserved the award, but whether the committee's REASONING--the principles they expressed in publicizing their decision--was itself legitimate. I personally think it was--and I think you would be hard pressed to find a world leader who has effected the kind of shift in the international mood than this one. To me that is hugely important, and opens up all KINDS of opportunities. My hope is that the award will, as Obama stated, operate as a "call to action" to the WORLD to realize the potential offered by our new POSITIVE international engagement.

Huffington Post really? That list is a joke.......Look at the words used to describe what he allegedly did,,,,,,,,,It means little as the committee is supposed to consider things that the nominee accomplished the year before not this year....there is no logical reason for him to win the award other than a committee of Left leaning people agreeing with his America bashing , agreeing with Obama making us more beholden to the UN and attempting to Influence future American foreign policy....
It is obvious to anyone with any common sense that the committee gave Obama the win in an attempt to influence our foreign policy..........Look at the video of what the head of the committee had to say about it...........

I don't like the fact that he was even nominated. The nomination deadline is February 1st. He was inaugurated on January 20th. So he was in office for a whopping 11 days at most. WTF did he accomplish in 11 days? First black president =/= Nobel Prize worthy. A few random "moving" speeches =/= Nobel Prize worthy. And these past 8 months have been pretty dismal. So I don't have a clue what people are thinking. This prize used to be somewhat reputable. Now it's just a pile of sh!t.

Many are not only saying WHY? but feeling that the Nobel Peace Prize has now been devalued.

The reason for their saying WHY? is very simple to me: They were all caught up by surprise, just as many folks here were also unprepared to deal with the significance of the decision by the Nobel Peace Prize Committee.

That also shows you that a lot of those journalists aren't the fastest people on their feet when something comes their way and catches them with their pens down. So, if the writers don't have much to say that makes sense, the talking heads that read the news on camera won't have much to say either. So they went exactly as you saw them, repeating the same lines that someone who didn't even had time to read the citation of the Committee gave them to put on the air, or cut and paste on their cyber or print media outlets.

For sure, those saying that Peace Prize has been devalued are the ones that are still feeling the burn of jealousy and can't make peace with the idea that their warmongers heores, like Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan, despite their nominations never won it, and thus they are in the same group as Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Joseph Stalin. Now, if any of those people in that group had received it, then one could argue that the Peace Prize had really been devalued. Those people didn't believe in peace, they believed in domination by the use of power, and war was their instrument.

For an example of what an intelligent person could say about the news of the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to president Obama, just read the post above yours ( message # 117) If our journalist could do the same, a lot of people wouldn't be repeating the same inane ideas.
