Three of the creepiest places I've been in Alberta have been torn down, but I'll relate them.

In the old General Hospital there were creepy tunnels in the sub-basement that connected all the buildings (the place must've been laid out by a kitten with diarrhea). I discovered these tunnels quite by accident while looking for a shortcut when delivering stuff. Shuffles and whispers, and no one around. Yikes, what a creepy place! I was glad when they blew it up...

The other place was the old Lethbridge Prison. Back in the day, they executed by hanging, and they did it right inside the building. The cells were horrible, and there was a atmosphere of malice in the whole place. I kept seeing movement out of the corner of my eye...

Back in the eighties I worked at the Beacon (the North Centre Inn). The place had secret passageways all through the hotel, and sometimes the cameras would catch a sort of blurry image. There was no way to rewind, though, because they didn't tape them. I did find a dead body in one of the rooms one night though, poor fella.

The Rosedale hotel in Wayne, just outside of Drumheller, is sort of cool. Stay the night. Dare ya. But the really scary thing in that area is the haunted coal mine tour. They get some retired pedophile to take people into this old mine that really might collapse at anytime. It's dark, smells like the devil, every little noise sounds like the Exorcist times ten, like bees in fast forward. And don't forget the pedophile. I'm still f'ed up from last year. I think maybe coal miners make miserable ghosts.

OMG TnC you don't look old enough to remember the beacon let alone to have worked there.

I got lost in the basement of the general hospital once. It was friggen creepy. Your description of it being designed by a kitten with diariah is perfect.

Well, thank you very much! I worked there I think in '89 or '90 - what a sh1t show that place was. I'll tell you one day about finding the dead body...they should've filmed an episode of the X-Files there.

I wouldn't want to live in one of those places they're building on the site of the old General, that's for sure. I bet there's some sightings there.

I think the reason that hotels, hospitals, etc all have so much paranormal activity is because they are places where "heightened levels of emotion" take place. Hospitals for obvious reasons but hotels because they are the places where people get married, enjoy wonderful times & in other cases come to escape violence or close the door and kill themselves.

When I walk through Banff Springs, I can't help but imagine all that has happened there....man, all that history. You can just feel it in the walls. I walked through a hotel downtown yesterday on the way to Eau Claire and I get that same feeling.

On the topic of ghosts has anyone ever heard of the +15 being haunted? I get this distinct creepy feeling in a certain area and always have. Like eyes watch me.

It seems to me that hospitals, prisons, and hotels are the best places for finding paranormal activity. Makes sense considering the number of deaths.

Perhaps there's high EMFs in that area. Anyone have a meter?

How did you know this guy was a pedophile? I'm sure they didn't volunteer this information. Did you "catch" anything?

Ohhhhhhh I'd love to go ghost hunting some day. I had one living with me, and she's likely still here...LOL

As for the Black Donnelly's what a great book to read!! And what a family!!!! They were from a place outside of London, ON...Lucan I believe. (My memory isn't as good as it once was).

Lots of info on the internet and there is a paranormal company in Calgary that has investigated many hauntings around here.

Good luck!

Yes, the Donnelly family lived in Lucan, Ontario, which is 22 kms north of London, Ontario (Hwy 4).

The history of the family is quite interesting and rather sad. The family was Irish and came to Canada after the Irish famine in the 1840's. Due to a variety of reasons including the never ending Orange vs White "war" that existed the family became despised.

The family squatted on some land on a side road near Lucan and when the rightful owner came to get his land, he lost half of it in court. Squatters rights. That same person attacked Jim Donnelly and he turned and killed him. They were going to hang him but a petition was setup and he was sent to prison for 7 years.

From there the bad blood grew until on Feb 4th, 1880, a mob of people came to the house and butchered them....then burned the house down on them. They then went to another homestead and shot one of the brothers mistaking him as Will Donnelly (it was his brother).

The stories of ghosts there are creepy. There are reports of blue lights floating down the "Roman Line", horses becoming spooked near the old homestead. Folks used to try to sleep in the barn and would come out in the morning disturbed by the experience, hearing footsteps coming at them, feelings of being pushed & hearing screams (disembodied voices).

I know this place well because I was born just a stones throw up the road. I've gone to the homestead & the graveyard and it gives me a very uneasy feeling. The graveyard has "eyes"..but the homestead gives me a distinct feeling that I should leave..a sort of "leave us alone" thing. At the farmhouse next door where Donnelly killed the neighbor I get an almost evil feeling in me. I remember I pulled into the driveway and pulled right back out as if I as "trespassing".

As for Calgary, I walk by the Rose & Crown going to work sometimes. The "weird" feeling I get is the "eyes" on the top floor of the back of the building, like it's watching me.
