There is a disregard I believe but I'm not sure what it is but as far as I am aware you should be declaring it if you are on benefits, it's income.

A lot of people get confused with CSA payments and benefits like that.

From the CSA website it says that £20 per week is disregarded when calculating benefit entitlement.

I think you technically have to declare all income when on benefits. They then apply disregards to that.

How much the non resident parent earns does not effect how much benefits the parent with care recieves. But it does effect how much CSA calculate he should pay.

The two are seperate calculations because what someone is supposed to pay and pays in reality is two different things.

So are you saying the two are still together as a couple but living apart??? I cant see anything on the CSA website that differentiates between a Non resident parent in a relationship and one who has split up. I guess it doesnt relieve him of his obligation to pay maintenance for his child at the rate on the CSA calculator.

Quite a complex scenario really.

knowing the CSA they would argue that he has to pay the amount they say as a minimum so they can pay out the minimum benefits necessary. Otherwise loads of couples who split could say they are still together meaning she gets the full benefits and he only has to pay a little bit if she agrees to it.

Thank you :)

It seems to me that there is little room for parents who actually have a very amicable relationship. I am currently pregnant with my second child and have just gone onto income support, so questions regarding 'official' maintenance is something I have had to discuss with my partner.

We do not live together and therefore he is a non-resident parent. My issue is that we dont have any formal structure of child maintenance and I am unsure if we should have or not. The reason for this is because he will be paying for things for the child on a regular basis, or contributing to different needs. For example one week he may purchase some new clothes, the week after a high chair. So although he will not be giving me cash directly he will be contributing.

He has even go so far as to say that he will contribute towards my utility bills etc. He is on a relitively low income and we have found that purchasing things like this makes maintenance hard to quantify. By this I mean that I cant say he pays me X amount each week although he may have spent 200 that month on clothes, nappies and other necessary items.

I do not wish to be taken to court for fraud and therefore have had this discussion with him. We have a until March when our child is born to discuss this issue.

Personally I think it is unfair to ask him for a cash contribution when he will be spending so much on the child for the necessary day to day items, when he is only earning approx 600 per month. It seems to be a catch 22.

Thank you, that is a brilliant idea and I will defo do it :)

the authorities just want to reduce thier benefit "burden" as much as possible.

Thats why they often hassle single mums for details of the dads to chase after them. For a government organisation aiming to save as much money as possible they arent very good at chasing after people!!!!

Trust me they are amazing at chasing people, like a bunch of rabid hounds chasing down a fox they have no mercy and no other purpose.
They chased me for 3yrs, for non-payment of CSA I would'nt have minded but at the time I was and still am the sole career for my children, effectively they were asking me too pay CSA for children that I legally had custody off!

It took 3 yrs the involvement of my local MP, and a solicitor to get them to stop asking and hounding me for money that I did not owe. I sent them copies of all the court documents, regarding my custody of the children and when I became a lone parent, they started to automatically take money out of my wages, leaving me and the children in severe financial difficulty. Once they had apologised , after the MP took up the case on my behalf it took them 2 further years to pay me back money they had wrongly taken off me.

Also recently my neighbour (seperated from his wife) a decent fella who does all he can for his daughter, had been paying the ex 70 quid a week in cash and had been for over a year. He got promoted at work, had a fall out with the ex, she went to the CSA now he has to pay the CSA just £35 quid a week making himself a nice saving and leaving her out of pocket. Just goes to show that parents should not use their children as weapons or a tool for spite, bet she feels like a right idiot now and cant afford many of the things which previously my neighbour was funding. He now puts away the extra £35 the CSA saved him into an account for his daughter.

They the CSA are a shower of sh1t and not fit for purpose as shown by the ammount of horror stories on this thread.

I'm quite appalled by some of the stories on this thread.

The CSA have been taking a whopping £5.50 a week from my oldest daughter's dad for the last 10 years. He has a 3 bedroom penthouse flat, a harley, a BMW convertible, walks about in bespoke suits and goes on several holidays every year. I have given up trying to get them to understand that his income must be considerably more than whatever he is claiming it to be. Apparently, I have to supply proof that he is earning more than he says he is which is a joke.

In my experience the c.s.a are the most innept agency run by this goverment, they sent me a letter 8 months ago asking me 2 send in 5 wage slips and at there request i did. I then asked them 2 take the money out of my wages and they agreed, i neva heard anything back from them for 5 months then 1 month ago i recieved a letter stating that i would have 2 pay all the money back with significent arrears and it would be coming straight out of my wages. I now havge 65% of my wages going straight 2 the c.s.a and there is nothing i can do about it. They are an absolute joke and the people running the agency should be hung out 2 dry lol

In my experience they are a right old waste of time.

Have had both my eldest two children with me for over ten years now and despite repeated requests the CSA will not chase up my ex wife for money owed. Shes on a fair crack (roughly double my pay) yet they just aint interested...

Another shambles from a shambolic govt ?

csa are not bothered about anyone but themselves. They only chase people who they know they can get money out of.The unemployed forget it.......they dont bother.
Only thing you can do is get a form from the child maintenance agency as you can come to agreement with your ex if she opts to cancel the csa involvement. They work with both parties to come to an amicable agreement on child maintenance(not legally binding though).
In my case my ex moved my three children 170 miles away and i have to fund collecting them if i want to see them.Thats a total of 680 miles and she doesnt have to move a muscle.Csa still get there £300 per month(they pay her only £80).Yes you can claim the money back for travel, but i have to do that trip twice per month to qualify and then you only get back 70%.They are not bothered that it destroys the relationship with genuine fathers.
Justice for fathers are right to campaign.....but all the best costumes have gone.lol.
