| Is it too late? Posted: 10/28/2009 5:33:53 AM | Hi OP. I wrote an article too. Articles are often based on observation or research, especially if it came from a legitimate source and often talks in generalities.
However, an article never rules anyone's life. You have it in you to make the change and no article can take that away from you.
|
| Is it too late? Posted: 10/28/2009 5:34:47 AM | "What happens for those of us who divorced in their 30s? "
Well, according to the OP article, it is referring to men over 35 who have NEVER been in a relationship before.

I happened to stumble across an article that mentioned that men who reach 35 years old and who have never been married or in any relationship will almost definitely remain single the rest of their life. Do you think there's any truth to that kind of article? Maybe you could point us to the article so we could see for ourselves whether it's merely polemical or speculatory, or if it's based on any sound research. Very little of the latter is done on male behavior (as opposed to what women do), and this is especially true so far as single males are concerned, so I'm skeptical, as much as I might like any message which goes against the "there's someone for everyone" mantra.
This doesn't mean there might not be something to the claim -- as the saying goes, "you're either a player or a loser", which does have something going for it. (I'm using the word "player" more in the sense of "one who actively participates in the dating game", such as it is, rather than in the more disreputable senses with which the word is often embued.)

| Is it too late? Posted: 10/28/2009 3:07:32 PM | It's never "Too Late"!
In my opinion, Life is far from perfect that why we have "Reality". It's how we choose to handle our own Reality and how we deal with what we are given.

| Is it too late? Posted: 10/28/2009 5:02:57 PM | | Rat-7 I am sorry you are soooooo neeegative!! My step mom met my dad at 50 and they have been married and happy for 20 years this year. So try changing your attitude and actually try. You have days off go to a local gathering and learn to relate with people. Sounds like you are happy the way things are or you would be doing somthing about it. You are frightend to change and streach out. After all you may be lonely but it is comfortable for you. JMO | |

Here is that article that mentioned 35 year olds who have not married. There are several other articles that I find that state that men who've never been married are also seen as freaks or strange. I was wondering what you opinions are on men who have never been married by age 35.
|
| Is it too late? Posted: 10/29/2009 2:06:35 AM | indeed you are correct. have you ever seen the movie "40 year old virgin?"
well, that is your life without the happy ending.

| Is it too late? Posted: 10/29/2009 9:32:17 PM | | We need to stop deluding ourselves. It is too late. Why can't people just accept it. One of the problems in today's world we can't accept the fact that we can't have everything we want. We are alone for a reason, we have to figure it out make the appropriate changes or learn to accept things as they are. Just stop lying to yourself and believing there is someone out there for everyone. There isn't. | |
|
| Is it too late? Posted: 10/29/2009 9:40:17 PM | its never to late, but as a younger girl whos dated a fair share of older men, I think guys get really stuck in there ways and the major problems comes from letting someone else in. If you can figure out how to get past the little things you will be ok. Theres got to be lots of different reasons for it though. If you don't want to be in a relationship then marriage isn't a big deal. | |
|
| Is it too late? Posted: 10/29/2009 10:18:43 PM | I'll have to agree. The older women are pursued by younger men and the older men want younger women (not the marrying kind either). To find someone you can stand at my age would be a miracle.
The article may well be correct and you'd wonder what the men were doing that kept them from marrying, obviously all the wrong things as I'm living testament to that.

| Is it too late? Posted: 10/29/2009 11:40:21 PM | Davdo:
You place too much of your self worth in other people’s hands.
It’s not hard at all to get married after any age (especially if you’re a guy). All you have to do is date younger women. Unlike women, men have no expiration date. We can have kids in our eighties. After about 38, for women, that goose is cooked. Your attitude is your problem not your age.
For a whole host of reasons, it is easy for guys to date younger women. You should try it. Find a girl in her mid-twenties and you will be married within a year, and you’ll have a kid within three years.

Here is that article that mentioned 35 year olds who have not married. - http://historymatters.gmu.edu/d/6564/ Geez, that thing is fifty years old!
Yes, some of the dumber ideas are still in circulation, but lots has changed since then, so I don't think much of what it claims is very relevant now.

IMO, only if the only women the guy meets are involved, not interested in men or idiots.
Unfortunately, there is a social issue where a lot of women think that single men over a certain age have issues, or are a certain type of guy. I think, in a way, this is a good thing. It helps weed out the women not worth spending time on. Of course, women that form opinions with no real basis of fact about the individual man could be a large reason said man remained single in the first place.

| Is it too late? Posted: 11/1/2009 12:27:08 AM | Watch where you are walking. Then you wont stumble so much
There is NO MORE truth to that conclusion than any other.

| Is it too late? Posted: 11/1/2009 6:33:54 PM | Wow and here I thought I was in the clear!!!!
No hassles with ex's, child nearly adult in age, confidence I didn't possess at age 22 and now passing for about 32. Baggage all neatly tucked into a trendy "carry-on" bag - so I don't forget the important good stuff :)
I have naively imagined this to be the best time to consider a marriage/partnership in life and thought the same about men my age.
I don't believe that at age 35 + men and women are too late to have perhaps the most rewarding relationship of their lives. However it does get dicey having kids in your 40's - but my parents did it

| Is it too late? Posted: 11/1/2009 9:39:39 PM | | I did'nt get married till I was 41.I may not be a great example I got divorced at 47 | |
|
| Is it too late? Posted: 11/2/2009 10:59:05 AM | op, it was true in the past, but these days, with so many divorced singles of all ages, it's much less true. | |
|
| Is it too late? Posted: 11/2/2009 11:31:50 AM | It is too late if you determine that it is too late. A defeatist attitude does just that... it defeats any chance you may have.
Some of you guys sound like a ton of fun to be around, real laugh a minute types. /sarcasm
If you are 35+ and have no ties or obligations (family, financial or otherwise) from a former relationship I would think it would be even easier to get out and meet someone.

If you are 35+ and have no ties or obligations (family, financial or otherwise) from a former relationship I would think it would be even easier to get out and meet someone And just how do you suggest that we do that when there is nothing available out there.
All the women that are out there have some kind of university degree, and some of us men have barely high-school, there is not even a glimmer of hope for a guy like that, since no women would even want anything to do with somebody like that. Not that I am blaming them, but the end result is the same, and when you are over 40, it is too late to get anything to compete with those that have university degrees

Are you saying there are no women anywhere near you? Not one? Every single woman in your entire area has a degree? Every one. Wow. You know every single woman? That is amazing! You sound like a broken record.
I don't have a high school diploma and I live on an island. I am dirt poor and have a car that is so unreliable that I don't dare RSVP to anything. I still refuse to give up. My mother always said "can't never could". I just applied to school at 43. I have no idea how I will pay for it or when I will go but... I am still going to try.
You should delete your profile and move into a cave somewhere. I mean, what's the point? You have given up. So sad.

| Is it too late? Posted: 11/2/2009 2:18:02 PM | rat-7, it's never too late to go to school if it's a worry...even if it's part-time...even if you're 50, 60, or beyond! there are now tons of online classes & degrees where you never even have to step foot on campus if you don't have the time...and they're legitimate, accredited degrees....you just need to search around for a good program & avoid the ubiquitous matchbook cover degrees. never say never, my dear! | |

it's never too late to go to school if it's a worry...even if it's part-time You can not get to go to university without high-school, and since I can never graduate from high-school, I will never be accepted to higher level of education
BTW, the reason that I can not graduate from high-school is because they require to be able to pass sport class, but due to a physical problem I can not do sport, but since I can walk, therefore the handicap that I have is not recognize by society since 99% of those with that handicap can not walk
