the left screams like a little girl with her pony tail stuck in the spokes!

The left always screams when there is a tiny bit of opposition.
Seems that they were counting on Lieberman for their 60 vote for Health Care. Sad part is that with Reid's new proposal, they not only lost Lieberman but some other Democrats who do not like what Reid is doing.

The Democrats just might mash their Health Care reform though but it probably will not be with public option or with 60 votes.

Now..a honest, nobel man like Joe Lieberman speaks the truth, states undeniable facts, joins the Republicans IN A BI-PARTISAN way and the left screams like a little girl with her pony tail stuck in the spokes!

Lieberman is a lying scumbag politician who will do anything, say anything to get elected and hold onto whatever power he has. Obama made a big mistake reaching out to him and asking Harry Reid to allow him to keep his chairmanships. Lieberman is a snake plain and simple. I wish they had tossed him out of caucus long ago.

He lied to the voters of Connecticut about health care. He talked about how he supported a public option during the election. He said all the things Democtrats want to hear. But he was really being bought off by insurance and pharmaceutical companies. He is a prime example of a lying scumbag politician.

Nobel my ass.

I think BeHO's door is open, but only if you have the same opinion as him and you can help his cause. From what I understand Obama has had quite a few meetings, but you had to have the right opinion to get the key to his closed doors.

Here are just some of the Closed door meetings Obama and the elected democrats have been having in lieu of Obama's vow to have the most open and transparent government, along with C-Span coverage of bill discussions.
Oh well what's so bad about adding another broken political promise to Obama's already large growing pile of broken promises.
Most of the Media has been reporting for weeks and months about Obama's closed door sessions with various groups that might support his policies especially his Health Care policies. Even Joe was included in some of the closed door sessions on health care, wonder if he will be included in the next health care closed door session.

ABC News (President Obama Becomes Lobbyist in Chief for Health Care Overhaul

And later in the day, the president himself will shoot some hoops with Cabinet secretaries and members of Congress. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091008/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_obama_preview )

The private talks have been held around Reid’s conference table, and participants have been tight-lipped about the proceedings.

Of course there are going to be closed door meetings. The Republican caucus has closed door meetings, the previous Bush administration had closed door meetings, all previous administrations had closed door meetings. You really think they are going to invite the media into a meeting? Nothing would get done.

What I objected to in your previous post (I notice someone manged to get it pulled, I guess they don't like being called out on things) was this line:

but you had to have the right opinion to get the key to his closed doors.

This is implying that Obama surrounds himself with yes men (or women). This is the president who pulled Republicans into his cabinet.
Where is your source for this?

This is why Joe Lieberman and several Democrats are against this heath care reform as it is now..these TAXES are in addition to the 40% tax on the cadillac plans...The obama lied and so is every liberal in the congress and senate who support this bill. TAXES WILL INCREASE ON EVERYONE!

The Health Care Bill's Tax Increases
August 28, 2009 - by Donny Shaw

I’ve been focusing on this blog a lot on the misinformation about the health care bill that’s been mucking up a rational, informed debate. A couple weeks ago, I posted about some of the most common lies that are being spread about the bill and cited the actual legislative text to back up my analysis.

Today, I’m taking a look at some elements of the bill that most conservatives probably won’t like: tax increases. Like I did with the post debunking lies about the bill, I’m providing links directly to the actual legislative text where the tax increases are spelled out in the bill. At OpenCongress, we have the official text of the House health care bill online for anyone to read and get the facts: H.R. 3200 – America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009. Anyone can easily permalink and comment on any individual section of the full bill text.

The three tax increases described below are important parts of the bill’s larger mechanisms for covering the 40 million or so Americans that are currently uninsured. We welcome your feedback in the comments and encourage you to share this information with anyone who is looking for a fact-based analysis of these provisions. The more we all get to know the facts about H.R. 3200, the better we’ll be as a nation at having a healthy debate about reforming health care.
Tax #1: Individuals Without Acceptable Health Care Coverage

Under the House health care bill, all Americans would be required to get health insurance. For people that are currently uninsured, that would mean getting insurance with the help of new government-provided affordability credits, if eligible, buying it without government assistance, or paying a new tax.

Read the provision taxing individuals without insurance in the official bill text >>

Here’s the specifics on how this would work. First off, for people who don’t get insurance through their job and aren’t eligible for Medicare or Medicaid, the government would subsidize, on a sliding scale, the cost of buying insurance. The subsidies will be most generous for people with annual incomes around the new cut-off for Medicaid – $14,400 – and will be entirely phased out for people making $43,320 or more.

People who don’t get insurance will be charged a tax based on the lesser amount of (a) the national average cost of a basic healthcare plan, or (b) two percent of their adjusted gross income. If a person is uninsured for only part of the year, the tax penalty will be based on a ratio of the above rate proportional to the number of months they were uninsured. The only way out of the individual requirement to buy health insurance would be with a religious exemption. The bill uses language based on an existing “religious conscience” exemption to laws relating to Social Security and Medicare. The language was originally designed to apply to older Amish and Mennonite groups, and it’s unclear whether other groups, like Christian Scientists, will be eligible for the exemption.

Former Bush Administration economist Keith Hennesey thinks that if this provision were to become law, it would be a violation of President Obama’s campaign pledge to not raise taxes on people who make less than $250,000. He explains that for middle-income people it would be cheaper to pay the tax than to buy an insurance plan, so some people with tight finance might opt, rationally, for the tax. Hennesey says that, according to the Congressional Budget Office, this conundrum would be faced by about 8 million people. It should be mentioned that the House health care bill with this tax provision is not a plan of Obama’s. It has been created ground-up by Congress. If he signs it into law, it becomes his. But until then, this doesn’t constitute a violation of the campaign pledge any more than any other bill in Congress that proposes a tax increase.
Tax #2: Employers Who Choose Not to Provide Health Insurance for Their Employees

All but the smallest businesses would be required to provide health insurance for their employees or be subject to a payroll tax equal to 8 percent of total wages.

Read the provision taxing businesses that don’t provide insurance in the official bill text >>

Businesses with annual payrolls less than $250,000 would not have to pay the tax if they choose not to provide insurance for their employees. Businesses with payrolls between $250,000 and $400,000 that don’t provide insurance would be subject to the tax at the following rates: two percent if their payroll is less than $300,000; four percent if it’s between $300,000 and $350,000; and six percent if it’s between $350,000 and $400,000. All businesses with payrolls above $400,000 that don’t provide insurance for their employees would have to pay the full eight percent rate.

Businesses could still decide to provide insurance for some employees – for example, in a specific department – and not for others. In those cases, the tax would apply only to the payroll amount for employees that are not given insurance.

The conservative Heritage Foundation argues that the new taxes for business that don’t provide insurance would causes fewer small businesses to be started and would discourage existing ones from expanding. “The mandate increases the marginal cost of each additional worker, making it less likely that small businesses will hire new employees or give raises to existing ones in a weak economy,” they write
Tax #3: Surcharge on the Rich

The biggest revenue raising provision in the bill is a new income tax that would be levied on wealthy individuals.

Read the provision taxing wealthy individuals in the official bill text >>

In general, the bill would impose a tax at the rates of 1 percent, 1.5 percent, and 5.4 percent on the income of high-income individuals. Specifically, for joint filers, the 1 percent rate would apply to the amount of a taxpayer’s modified adjusted gross income that is between $350,000 and half a million. The 1.5 percent rate would apply to the portion of modified adjusted gross income between half a million and one million. And the 5.4 percent rate would apply to all modified adjusted gross income above one million. For married individual filers, the dollars amounts of the brackets above would be reduced by 50 percent. FOr unmarried individual filers, the dollar amounts would be reduced by 20 percent. Over ten years, the congressional Joint Committee on Taxation estimates that this provision would raise $543 billion over 10 years. Generally, this new surtax would target many of the same people that benefited most from the Bush tax cuts.

An important an overlooked detail in the bill regarding this new tax on the rich is that it gives the Office of Management and Budget the ability to double the 1 percent and 1.5 percent rates in 2013 if their estimates show that it is not producing the expected revenues.

All of the above information is based solely on H.R.3200; that is to say just one version of Congress’ various proposals to reform the healthcare system. H.R. 3200 is the only version to date that has been officially introduced and it is the one people refer to when talking about “the healthcare bill.” Other versions of the bill contain slightly different tax proposals. The House Energy and Commerce Committee version, for example, wouldn’t tax any businesses below $500,000 in payroll that don’t provide insurance for their employees. The Senate bill is expected not to include the surtax on the rich. The final bill that emerges from Congress – if one does – may look significantly different from the one containing the tax provisions above.

It sounds like a pretty well thought out plan to me, right now every tax payer is charged a tax to pay for those who are not insured, this plan will bring everyone capable of paying for insurance that does not have it into the pool. I would vote for it in a heart beat as long as it has a public option attached to it, I will let my rep's know how I want them to vote.

So now lets address this from the blogger

It appears that a former "Bush" economist "thinks" it would be a violation of President Obama's campaign pledge "if" it passes and is signed into law. He also points out that the House health care bill with this tax provision is not a plan of Obama’s. So to call the President a liar at this point is another distortion

A week after declaring that he would help a Republican filibuster of Democrat-sponsored health-care legislation if there were a public option, Senator Joe Lieberman (I-CT) has apparently signaled privately to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) that he will not block a vote. Sources told The Hill that Lieberman has affirmed that he will vote with Democrats to end the debate, and his threat of filibuster is likely a tactic to "get some stuff for himself"—or his constituents, including several major insurance companies based out of Connecticut. Democrats want Lieberman's support because it likely represents the necessary 60th vote that would end debate in the Senate, and many supporters of health-care reform say that he will vote with Democrats when the time comes, despite his statements to the contrary. Says Reid, simply: "I trust Sen. Joe Lieberman."

So he was just using the threat to get goodies for his donors. Same old, same old.

The article used in msg 25 was ABC News’ Jonathan Karl's interpretation of an article from The Hill newspaper. The ABC article can be found at -- http://blogs.abcnews.com/thenote/2009/11/lieberman-backing-down-no.html)

Here is just a snippet from the The Hill newspaper article that Jonathan Karl was referring to in his article. Follow the snippet is the internet cite where the article can be found and make your own conclusions.

Same old, same old. But sources said Reid’s staff is telling liberal interest groups that Lieberman (Conn.) has assured Reid he will vote with Democrats in the necessary procedural vote to end debate, perhaps with intentions to change the bill.
“Lieberman keeps assuring Reid that he’s OK,” said one source. “But he’s one of those characters — you never know with Joe.
“Maybe he’s talking tough to get the public option watered down or he’s trying to get some stuff for himself on other topics or on other sections of the legislation,” the source added. “He’s basically trying to be a senator.”
Lieberman’s spokesman said Monday that nothing has changed from last week, when the senator said he would support calling up the bill but would block a final vote.
“Sen. Lieberman has made it clear that he will vote for the motion to proceed to the healthcare bill but will oppose cloture on a final bill if it contains a public option because he believes that it would worsen our national debt problem,” said Lieberman aide Marshall Wittmann. http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/66005-reid-reassures-the-left-lieberman-is-on-board

New CNN Poll comes out interesting results on the Health Care.
Seems that many are with Joe, and looks like Joe is working for the majority.

Poll: Huge majority doesn't want Democrats' health care bill
By: Byron York
Chief Political Correspondent
11/06/09 3:41 PM EST
With House Democrats racing to pass their 2,000-plus page health care reform bill this weekend, a new CNN/Opinion Research poll shows that an overwhelming majority of those surveyed -- 72 percent -- want Congress either to make major changes, start over from scratch, or simply stop working on health care legislation. Just 26 percent want Congress to pass the current health care proposal as is, or with minor changes.

This was the question asked by the CNN/Opinion Research pollsters:

As you may know, several health care bills have been passed by committees in the U.S. House and Senate and they can be brought before Congress for debate and a final vote at any time. Which of the following do you think Congress should do:

** Continue working on those bills this fall and make relatively minor changes
before passing final legislation.

** Continue working on those bills this fall but pass final legislation only if major changes are made.

** Start work on entirely new bills that would not be ready until some time next year.

** Stop working on any bills that would change the country's health care system.

The results: 26 percent want the bills passed with relatively minor changes; 33 percent want the bills passed but only with major changes; 24 percent want Congress to start work on entirely new bills; and 15 percent want Congress to stop work altogether. Just one percent have no opinion.

That means 72 percent of those surveyed either want Congress to make major changes, start over, or stop work on health care reform, versus 26 percent who want the bills passed with minor changes.

On another question, the CNN/Opinion Research pollsters found that 53 percent of those surveyed oppose President Obama's plan to reform health care, with 45 percent favoring the plan. Just two weeks ago, the same pollsters found the public evenly split on the issue, 49 percent to 49 percent.

The 53 percent opposition to ObamaCare is the highest figure in any of six CNN/Opinion Research polls since June. The question asked was whether respondents "favor or oppose Barack Obama's plan to reform health care." Even though the president has not put forth a plan of his own, the White House released a statement today saying that he strongly supports the House Democrats' health care bill

Due to the number of Democrats versus number of Republicans in the house its kind of a no brainer whether it will pass or not.

I do have a feeling that many of the Representatives who vote for the bill and are up for re-election next year just might have a hard time with their constituents and winning.

P.S. those sneaky Republicans are trying to shove in an anti-abortion amendment into the bill right before the vote.

Really? Why? So they can ensure even more dems vote to pass it?

From the AP:

As originally written, the measure would have required insurers to separate public and private money, so that only private funds could be used for elective abortions. Abortion opponents were concerned that such a policy would effectively expand the government's role in improving access to abortion, and as many as 40 Democrats threatened to withhold support from the health care bill unless changes were made.

Looks like its some "shameful" dems that are causing this little hold-up. Republicans are voting no anyways.

Agreed. Then why were 40 on your side worried about it? If you read the whole piece, which was written around 3 hours ago it emphatically states that it was 40 democrats that were the problem. Republicans were and still are going to vote no.

I am not anti-abortion but I am definetly anti-paying for someone else's abortion unless it's a matter of life and death. So I see it as a good thing.

^^^^Does anyone know whether Stupak/Pitts amendment passed? I can't find an answer, crazily, online. This amendment would now remove ALL abortion coverage from not just the public option but all insurance policies that people buy with any subsidization. This would make abortion coverage (even medically necessary) LESS option, even under private policies that previously DID cover them.

There was a battle over this between Stupak/Pitts and the Capps amendment which would have allowed for the severance between public funds and private contributions in paying for abortion.

I'm confused--can anyone straighten this out for me? Did it pass?

The last thing I read is that they were putting the ammendment up for a vote of the whole House - assuming that it couldn't pass on its own. A dangerous gamble. The ammendment is pretty stupid, but it's kind of surprising how much stupid stuff gets passed.

I imagine it'll get dropped in the talks with the Senate even if it does pass in the House though.
