| Does online dating make your life easier? Posted: 11/1/2009 11:51:32 PM | | I have found that it has helped me in some ways. I have had some very kind ladies contact me. It really helped my confidence which was very low after a breakup. It helped me get back into the groove by chatting, flirting, and meeting up to say hello. You will most likely not meet the person you wish to find, but if you put some effort into this and actually give it an honest try it will get you back on your feet again. You will meet some friends which is nice for those times when you feel alone. You can just drop an email, text, or phone call and go do something. Good luck! | |

Has anyone ever 'dated' someone living in a different country to them? If so how does this work? I think one of the beauties of online dating is that you could potentially meet people from a country that youve never even been too! Any tips on these long distance relationships - do they even work?
Only if they moved there after we established a relationship. You can't really date someone you have never met face to face.
Sure, you can meet people from all around the world... but if you have no plans of going there in the near future.. what would be the point? Unless, of course, you are simply looking for friends. If you are looking for romance, nothing exists.. nothing is real.. until you are face to face for an extended period of time.

| Does online dating make your life easier? Posted: 11/2/2009 8:52:06 AM | | the best is: lots of people...you'll get to meet people you'd otherwise never encounter IRL. also the worst: people get a certain mentality, so it becomes easy-come-easy-go. overall, i'd say it's a definite positive to be online...especially if used as an adjunct to your other methods. just don't expect a panacea...you'll run into about 1/2 who aren't quite as advertised....but the other half make it worth it. btw, i think match is a very good place if you're looking for specifics in profiles. a lot of sites' profiles aren't that detailed or people are a bit evasive or don't really fill out the profile entirely. if that's what you seek (more detailed), some sites are very good for filtering & searching exactly what you want. this site is very good for forums & opinions. best of both is my motto. | |

| Does online dating make your life easier? Posted: 11/2/2009 10:22:50 AM | Nah I don't personally find dating on here easy, unless you're good looking I don't think you have much of a chance - I'm not gonna whinge about the number of girls I've messaged that never reply (and I don't message inappropriate of vulgar things btw).
It passes time and it's a good concept, the forum isn't too bad on times. Good luck fishing!

| Does online dating make your life easier? Posted: 11/2/2009 2:54:39 PM | I find I can meet people from farther than I can travel in one nite. It is the best thing about the internet. Its an international connection to somewhere else; instantly. tho dating is harder, I have met some great people and started some friendships that I look forward to meeting in person on my travels.
locally, its a horrendous waste of time.

| Does online dating make your life easier? Posted: 11/2/2009 7:28:44 PM | sooner or later you will find out for yourself what online dating is like. I believe we have to have our own experiences. Someone can share their own experiences but ultimately you are the one who is going to learn about it from actually tasting it. I may advise you against something, but you may want to go for it at the time, and learn your own lesson, ignoring my sound advice. This is hypothetical situation, of course.
My one suggestion to you is to treat online dating as one of many other dating sources, don't treat online as one ans only way of meeting people. Also, you may hear some very good suggestions from more eloquent users, or it sounds like they have it all figured it out. Yes, you can learn a lot about the other person from corresponding and talking to them, and get some glimpses into their lives. I have found out, that online allows people to 'hide' certain things, and I would learn about them much, much later...when I already have fallen in love with them. So, just watch out...I am opening up slowly to online dating again, but don't seem to be too enthusiastic about it. I think meeting people in real life is more suitable for me at this point.

If they can give your friends numbers and their friends are honest and can verify for them then you could possibly have an honest person. Most of the people here on pof.com as for the people who have actually met me in person know that my photo and profile is mine. You can meet just as many people who dishonest in real life as you do online. So it can go both ways. However online dating shouldnt be the only form of dating that you use because people are social and computers never take the place of real social interaction. As for me I prefer dating in real life through a friend, church, or work.

| Does online dating make your life easier? Posted: 11/3/2009 11:43:13 AM | It's just another line of communication to the outside world. I would by no means put all of my eggs in only the POF basket. Continue the things that you have been doing to socialize and maybe think of some other social groups to be apart of. Check in on your little place of the pond from time to time and see if there is anything of interest.
The difference between online dating and real life meetings I describe as:
On the internet you get to know a bit about a person up front and then you meet at some point to see if you have any physical attraction. In real life you meet and find you have an attraction and then you spend time afterwards to see if you have anything in common. There is your difference.
TracyAnn- you know we are in to you. It is you that is not in to us. Have fun at work.

| Does online dating make your life easier? Posted: 11/3/2009 1:19:52 PM | I've been doing well offline but online has been a bit of a bust. In the "real" world, I find that I can screen people more naturally, because I'll meet them at an event or a dinner party (where I met my last gf) and if there is no match, then no worries.
With online, there is no body language, you can mis-interpret the written word especially if there is no context, to set up a date often takes alot more planning than the real world (coffee dating has just not been in any of the ladies cards as a proper first date) and often it feels more awkward (I'm not much of a cold communicator on the phone or email. I love the face to face).
But the forums are exciting and I can argue with a whole bunch of people who must obviously think i'm delusional or idiotic!

| Does online dating make your life easier? Posted: 11/3/2009 3:38:26 PM | | It does a little. Usually I dont meet a lot of women, the ones I meet are at work and Im against fishing off the company yacht. I think most of my dating success came from meeting people online. Ive only successfully had 2 girlfriends that I met in real life as opposed to through a site like POF. | |

Does online dating make your life easier? If you mean easier as in "simpler with less effort"...the answer is no. It is actually easier for me to get out and meet people through friends, chance encounters or at places of interest. As others have already mentioned, on line dating made it possible for me to meet nice people I probably would otherwise never have met. For me, that was the only advantage.

| Does online dating make your life easier? Posted: 11/22/2009 6:50:21 PM | | it totally depends on what you are looking for. if you were here for just hookups, this place is definately easier than bars I think. But it doesn't make any easier when you are looking for some serious relationships. | |

yfs2108: Has anyone ever 'dated' someone living in a different country to them? If so how does this work? I think one of the beauties of online dating is that you could potentially meet people from a country that youve never even been too! Any tips on these long distance relationships - do they even work? Yes, actually I have. I'm actually quite rare for an Anglophone in that I speak various languages in varying degrees. I had a girlfriend in Brazil who I went to see 8 years ago. That relationship lasted for 3 years and we'd call each other about every Sunday as well as e-mail. We got along just as well in person as we did away from each other. She was a high school Portuguese teacher and couldn't get the same job outside of a Lusophone country unless she lived somewhere like New York City, so in the end she didn't want to move. Me, I had kidney problems and didn't want to depend on my employer at the time for continued employment after moving to another country, even when I was able to work from home half the time. I had similar problems with 'international' jobs. I couldn't find jobs like that in the sticks. I had to move to big cities to find jobs like that. Even though my salary was pretty good, it was a pain having to move and start all over again.
Yes, LDRs do work if both people are willing to put forth the effort to make it work. Eventually you have to decide whether you're willing to relocate to be with that person.
