| Sitting solo on a scary Saturday (Halloween) Posted: 10/30/2009 7:25:32 PM | I live in the woods, too. Seriously. On Hallowe'en, I'm going to the local legion's masquerade incognito, alone. I intend to get first prize for my costume. I'll let you know if I win.
In general, many holidays suck. Except this Christmas, both my daughters are coming home (with one almost son-in-law in tow) and I'm so looking forward to it!
I ate candy for a year and still have some left. Laughing! I still have some of last year's candy left, too!

my bestest "wicked witch" costume
Miss Mae, I see your bestest wicked witch costume, and I'm not sure which is more wicked...your costume, or my thoughts about it! Wow, another "trick or treat" stop I need to make!

| Sitting solo on a scary Saturday (Halloween) Posted: 10/30/2009 7:40:30 PM | | I am*almost* newly single--ct date in a couple of weeks. This will be my first holiday "alone," and I thought about things to do--nothing seemed that appealing. Good thing, too, because I'm sick as a dog and stuck at home, debating whether to drag myself out for some ibuprofen or just suck it up and try to sleep some more. . . I look pretty frightful, however, so if I DO go out, I'll be contributing to the spirit of the weekend! | |

Well, Miss Brooker, you surely will. if that same smile shows through!
I'm not much into candy, but wow, I've seen my share of sweets, in this thread!

Good for you, Miss almost newly single Louise. Get yourself out there ASAP. Don't make the mistake that I have made, and "hole up" for so long that you make it your way of life.
Your profile says that you are seperated...well, I was "seperated" for several years. I let myself get into the routine of being alone. Don't make the same mistake. Get out there, meet people!

| Sitting solo on a scary Saturday (Halloween) Posted: 10/30/2009 8:03:29 PM | The question is really, what do you do on holidays, major holidays, or minor ones? Do you have family, to share them with, or like me, no family?
Like yourself I do not have any family. Am an only child and mom passed away 7 years ago and she was it. Fortunately I have wide circle of friends and acquaintances and I spend a fair amount of time on the phone as well. Am doing a little volunteer work and always on the phone with someone regarding that stuff, customers call and I have 2 dogs. Have greatest neighbors and am very friendly with them all and one is very close confidant too. Been an amateur radio operator for 40 years and have all my radio friends and we keep in touch on VHF if local and HF into Colorado during the day light hours. This is a small town and I am on a first name basis with just about every business I go into. As for the holidays I always look forward to them. Love to do a lot of cooking of special things and I usually get invited somewhere but prefer to stay at home. During the holidays people call that I have not heard from in a while. I do make one day trips to Colorado to see my friends down there. I will be doing more volunteer work and more of other things and working less in the near future. My life is anything but lonely and sometimes it's hectic. Can't wait for the holidays, have some cool recipes I am going to try. This evening we are recovering form a major snowstorm and the streets are void of any haloween kids so I will just consume all the candy myself. Going to go outside when I shut down the computer and watch my 2 Bullies chase each other in the snow. Lots of good TV on tonight so it will probably be a late one tonight.

| Sitting solo on a scary Saturday (Halloween) Posted: 10/30/2009 8:10:59 PM | Nothing new or creative for me this year ... just the same ol' ritual as last. Doing my usual of beating up and robbing little kids of their candy behind dark alleys. | |
|

so I will just consume all the candy myself.
Just don't make yourself sick there, bro!
I have my volunteer work, too, for the big days. There are at least three or four missions around Veterans' day that I'll be involved in...hopefully on my flagged up HD, if the roads are not icy...a couple of these missions are a couple hundred miles away.
Thanksgiving...there is aways a very short, but well-attended service at a Vietnam Memorial in a small town, about 125 miles from me. My group helped to establish this Memorial in the early '90s, and most live locally (I'm the one who moved so far away) but I still try to be there, weather and road conditions permitting. That, to me, on Thanksgiving, means much more than a day of turkey and football.
Weather and road conditions permitting, I'll ride the HD, flagged up, 125 miles for a twenty minute service, then back again. It does turn out to be a whole day, but he77, I can't think of anything better to do! It seems so much more meaningful than sitting around a big meal. I can't always do it because of the weather conditions where I live (slick, winding little hillbilly roads) but I'll do it in the truck, if'n I can't ride.
Halloween..,well, never had any trick or treaters here, best I can offer is a beer...maybe Snort will offer one of his cookies.

| Sitting solo on a scary Saturday (Halloween) Posted: 10/30/2009 8:34:14 PM | | Listen bro, you could be around another 20 years, the old guy over on the next block is 83 and every time I walk by in the summer with the dogs he is outside smoking his big cigar. You keep busy, do volunteer work, there are a lot of people and causes that need us to help them. Keep that Harley in good shape and don't worry about women of all things. | |

Oh, so for 24 hours, we don't have to be nice polite guys? Sugary and sweet, and posting compliments to all of you lovely ladies?
I'm not sure I can do that, with all the wonderful ladies here. I just may have to log out, then!
|
| Sitting solo on a scary Saturday (Halloween) Posted: 10/30/2009 9:13:25 PM | the deal is for the guys who are always nice, they can be devilish on halloween (24 hours)... Now those not so nice... (they know who they are) Have to be plain sweet to all women on POF...

Tough challenge! Most of us guys have always tried to be "nice"...meaning respectful, even in disagreements,..not use bad language, ...address you ladies as "Miss Luiza", etc. It might be really hard to change into that Halloween nasty, even for 24 hrs.
But, some of us "nice guys" have learned the hard way, that some ladies prefer just the opposite...some are here looking for a "bad boy" for some reason or another.
Well, okay...been there, done that, to the point that even some closest to me don't know.

|
| Sitting solo on a scary Saturday (Halloween) Posted: 10/30/2009 9:49:59 PM | Halloween nasty = not good slightly devilish = slightly fun
No, not all ladies want a "bad boy".
I can't speak for eveyone, but a fun, loving, slightly devilish, confident, attractive man would be a good starting place......
NO, definitely not bad!
|
| Sitting solo on a scary Saturday (Halloween) Posted: 10/30/2009 10:08:28 PM | I do love it so much, when someone replies, pretty much directly, to what I post! Especially when it is a very attractive lady.
but...to try to get my mind off ofother things and back on topic...

Have a great family and families, and a screen saver that says friends are the family you choose for yourself. Now, I live alone and am happy as all get out. Yet I have great fun with family and friends depending in the occasion. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, and I usually have our son and his family plus a rag tag bunch of folks who have no family around for dinner, playing music and just having fun.
During December its lots of pot lucks and dinners with friends and simply having fun, playing music, going skiing or doing other outdoor activities. New Years Eve I stay home, where I snuggle in bed with hot chocolate or some champagne and some rum pie, watching old movies and being thankful I can eat what I want, sleep when I want and not have to worry about some drunk driver hitting me.
And during the rest of the year I accept any and all invites to weddings, anniversaries, christenings, bris', graduations, birthdays, Ground Hog day, even Bastille Day

| Sitting solo on a scary Saturday (Halloween) Posted: 10/30/2009 11:14:54 PM | | Ha! I just got home from a Halloween party--I got first prize on my costume. I was the best at having the worst costume (I got, as a prize, a lumpy squash--one of my proudets moments. FRIG--I left it at the venue). Tomorrow is MLS playoffs, I'll be watching TV and ignoring children all night. | |

Awwww, Miss Mae, sorry to spoil your fun!
I woke Snort up, kissed him for ya....(that took him by surprise, until I explained the situation to him).
Oops, supposed to stay on topic here...it's about 3:00 AM here on the East coast, I should not be awake, let alone in my right mind. So.... One night before "trick or treat" night was always "mischief night". I never understood that, but as kids, we'd soap windows. throw toilet paper around, etc....no destruction.
These days, I sleep with my .357 magnum revolver. Ya never know when that nasty coyote is coming out of the woods. ...yeah, right; as if Snort didn't get to it first...dear sweet bulldog Snort, who, when attacked, removed an ear from a German Shepherd...
But Snort's a real sweetheart...really, he is!

....much chance of trick-or-treaters, and no date, so...if you are in a similiar position, what would YOU do? Is it Halloween??? Oops, didn't know. Actually, it's not big over here in Australia. And I'm away from home on hols interstate, alone, so no plans. But perchance, met someone here who is coming to brighten up my night ...
I guess my big question is to those who have been in a family-type relationship...how different is it now...no family? Living alone? Fortunately I have a circle of friends who usually make sure "old lonesome me" (anyone remember that song?) is not alone on the big events that count. I'd keep ya company Geezer if you weren't so far away..... Now here's a thought - can we hook up somehow on videocam?? Trick or treat!
