Nah ... my daughter, but probably will skip a generation and just give it all to my grandson. And since my daughter is in charge of him (the little squirt) ... it will be for her to decide what to do.

| who gets your stuff? Posted: 11/4/2009 11:59:17 PM | When my time comes up the family knows that I'm to be taken to be burned ASAP. They can then schedule a Celebration of my Life [if there is anything to celebrate] at my church when the time is right. The ashes can be disposed of in any way they want except in one of those high priced grave yards - better to be fertiliser for a plant or tree. I don't want people to be going to a grave yard to "visit" me - I'm not there !!
As to my stuff my brother can dispose of it in any way he sees fit, and if there is any money left then it is to go to a special group that helped both of us as children. If my son wants something he can have it, but I will not give him money for a number of reasons.

| who gets your stuff? Posted: 11/5/2009 1:58:30 AM | Weird, ain't it?... Next time you're coerced into shopping with a significant other at Wal-Mart, just take a break from your usual routine of hanging out in the electronics and camera sections...
Yeah... That's right... Cruise all the aisles... Take a close look at all the amazing shit there is to be seen... This for $169.95... That on special for $37.50... Buy two of these for only $49.95 and get a third for a buck... (Manufacturer's mail-in Rebate)...
Commit these items to memory, and go to a yard or garage sale the following week...
Same stuff... "What are you askin' for this?"...
"Twenty Bucks... Still on warranty... Original box with all accessories"...
"I'll give you sixteen"...
'You're a thief... $18.00 and it's yours."...
"$17.50, or I walk"...
"Done"...
You can take it home, but you still Can't Take It With You...

Posted: 11/5/2009 8:23:48 AM | | I've stipulated some gifts for people - having managed a couple of estates, I saw how sad people were to not get even a small token gift when their friends passed. Other than that, it's a bequest to my alma mater to sponsor scholarships/bursaries. I was a poor student once and got some $ to keep me going from a bursary. I want to pay that forward.

Who would want a bunch of old baseball and hockey cards anyways Funny you should mention that. My friends husband died at a fairly young age. He left behind three young children. Due to bad financial decisions and a substance abuse problem, her and two of her children moved in with me for a short period of time.
Her deceased husband was a collector of hockey cards. She never took this collection when she left. We are no longer in contact. I have spoken to the youngest daughter, who is 17 now, i have asked her on a few occasions to stop by and pick up the cards. But still, here they sit. Any suggestions as to what i should do with them?

| who gets your stuff? Posted: 11/9/2009 11:55:02 PM | All things considered, I won't have any money to leave - not because I'll be living the wild life..more, I'll just be living, comfortably but not extravantly. That's my hope, anyway. But my daughter will get my house and car - and the messy spare room.. Molly Maude:
about 10 years later, I was talking to Grandma's attorney and he told me that Grandma had run out of money more than 20 years before she died ... my father had quietly augmented his mother-in-law's accounts so that she thot she still had money ... he even supplied all the cousins' inheritances. What a kind and generous man, taking care of his mother-in-law with such respect and love. My best girlfriend's husband is like that: when I first separated and wasn't sure how I'd go with money, he quietly told me not to worry because we could move into their house and he'd support us until I got on my feet. Thank goodness, it never came to that but it was very comforting to hear.

I found a site - beckett.com - that caters to card traders and dealers. It has message boards and, like ebay, rates reputable traders. The cards may be worth money - might as well find out.

| who gets your stuff? Posted: 11/10/2009 9:44:38 AM | I too have been thinking of this lately.
I have serious issues. . . my 4 acres is full of large sculpture and my home is full of smaller works. (most are mine).
I don't know that "sell it and keep the money" would work in that art is hard enough to sell as it is. Most of my work also takes a boom truck to move (I have the truck, but I don't see my mom climbing up into in and loading sculpture.)
I could GIVE it to people, but again... moving everything safely is complicated.
I suppose I could have the local scrap metal yard come get it and pay .50 cents a pound... I mean, it *IS* stainless steel and bronze after all.
Any ideas?
