I'm always amazed to read comments from people who just don't give a rats a$$ about alleviating poverty. And what kind of tune would you be singing if you lost your job? Woe is me? Where is the nearest lineup for the cell phone?
Not everyone who is unemployed is a lazy ass who is just sitting around looking for the next handout. As many have already pointed out - there is a legitimate need for phone coverage for people trying to obtain jobs.
The benefits people get when they are unemployed are so low as to provide little real incentive to stay unemployed. Some people will abuse the benefits but most people are desperate to find jobs well before they draw all of their UI benefits, and most actually never even draw any benefits in their lifetime.
