Never being able to come to my place because of the pets is bothersome. So I have to leave my cat all the time so her dogs have a constant companion. Maybe it is a horse. And horses can be very time consuming, riding, grooming, stall and fence maintenance. Maybe they take their pet to compettions all over the country. You have to see yourself getting into a routine with them. If that is something you can envision, then great.
But I can tell you I avoid ladies with ALL of their photos with a pet. Where would fit in? | |

We are a package deal, so whoever I chat with, I let them know right away about my dogs. Cats are ok, as long as they don't have more than two. I've never owned a horse, but they are beautiful animals, so horses would be ok. NOOOOOOO snakes or iguana's. | |

That is a bit extreme but I understand the concept.
For me having pets is not a deal breaker although I don't find myself messaging those with pics of their animals. Especially large or multiple animals. I think it’s not right to have large animals or several without a proper living environment.
Also, it’s a deal breaker if there is a mention of animal rights. I really can't stand to be lectured. | |

Sleeping with your pets would be a deal-breaker for me.
Now Virtue.....if you were discussing this on that "red flag" thread....you wouldn't be so definitive about breakin' the deal with someone who, like me, sleeps with a pet.
I have a small shitzu(10 lbs) that has been my curled up sleep companion for years...through a lot of heart-break and lonely times. I am ever so greatful that she doesn't bother Logo. In fact, for Christmas last year he built her a ramp so she could get up on my bed by herself, with her name cut out on the side, carpetted top so she didn't slip....this way we got to miss all that jumping, ears flying, Tika-the-circus-dog gymnastic performances.
Besides...she keeps the small of my back warm when I get in from work in the middle of our cold winters. Bless her:) | |

However, I believe just as many people are injured by pit bulls, horses, and dolphins as by the others. My pet cobras never killed anyone that didn't ask for it! | |

WELL...I have three snakes, a scorpion and a tarantula. She said she was really afraid of snakes. Then she asked me, if we were to marry, would I give up my snakes. I told her flat out, NO! I then asked if she would give up her dog, she said NO. So I guess pets can be a deal breaker. I then asked her, why she was asking about marriage when we had just met an hour ago. She was a flake. But I will not give up an animal for a human. I choose my friends carefully these days. And I have found that animals are much more dependable as friends. I work at an animal refuge, and realize that I would tolerate any animal. But so must any possible partner! If possible partner did not like animals...See-ya!

It's actually quite ironic. I can take care of snakes, but I own mice (two females). As long as he doesn't joke about feeding my "girls" to the snake, I'll gladly help care for the snake. Also, I don't feed live. Frozen is more humane for the snake, as well as the feeder animal. | |

I get her all comfortable & then I excuse myself to go to the bathroom. Really I'm just getting the rat out of his cage. When I return holding the rat by his tail [that does not hurt a rat]. I throw the critter on my date & then the fun starts! Boy, you never heard screaming like that in all your life. I have yet to find a woman that doesn't freak out when a rat is thrown on her. It's really something to see [& hear]!!! One gal jumped right out the window & it was shut. | |

Well, I was in love with a woman who desperately wanted to sleep with her cats, so obviously I am capable of appreciating such an aberration of nature. I could make a long list of the drawbacks of sleeping "el feline," as they say in French...or Spanish...or someplace we probably wouldn't want to visit. But suffice it to say that I wanted only one **** in my bed. I'm just old-fashioned that way.
The salient question for me is: What if Sweetheart had objected to sharing you with your canine back-comforter? Curious currently lovelorn types want to know.

People in relationships don't have to like the sleeping arrangements in other people's houses since they don't live there. Doing sleepovers where the animals aren't present or sleeping in your own beds is also an option. Compromise (or date people without pets). Simple enough. | |

is there a correlation? just a coincidence? how many people do you know with multiple pets who live in the house with them who are sick 4-5 times a year and complain about stuffy noses the rest of the time and always pass it off as allergies,,,the weather...sunspots...anything but the animals they live with as the cause.. | |

I do attribute it to the pets somewhat, although I sneeze and get a bit watery eyed at work sometimes where there are no pets of any kind present. I don't feel like I get sick more often than most people, though.
I think you really have to decide, if you do suffer pet related allergies/sickness if the symptoms can be helped or if they are severe enough to where you should not have pets present in your home. Mine are pretty minor and are usually remedied by an allergy pill, so I don't feel like what I suffer denotes needing to get rid of them with the overall happiness I get from their companionship. JMHO:) | |

if someone had in their profile they hate animals, they definitely dont need to apply! heres a simple solution: if someone has a dog/cat and u dont like either or both, then dont date the person who has either dog or cat or both! why is it that hard? why do ppl have to analyze everything? i met a guy who had reptiles and told him i hate them would never date anyone who had them and moved on. he wanted a full explanation on my reasoning for not liking reptiles i didnt owe him one and he proceeded to say ****es like u are so stuck up u think a cat is better than a reptile! lol i couldnt believe it i didnt say anything about a cat he brought that up. thats fine if someone likes reptiles but that dont mean i have to like them just cuz u think i should.
i blocked him he was becoming so hateful for no reason when he didnt know me at all | |

Basically, if someone's pets own the house hold and own them, I just won't be interested. My dog gets plenty of affection, but he has rules to live by and I stick to that. | |

Well Virtual, I guess we will never really know what would have happened if I would have disapproved of Tika the circus dog sleeping at the end of the Carpe’s bed or being in the room when we are making love. My thoughts were Tika was there first. My girl’s cats sleep on my bed when they are not with me and I am alone in the house. So it was not big deal to me. Carpe would prefer that the cats are not in the room when her and I are in there alone. I am 100% ok with that because they are not my cats, even if they were my cats. I would respect Carpe’s wishes. She is ok if the cats coming in after we are ready for bed, so she is not totally against having them even in the room. I would think that if I had the same concerns that the same compromise would have been made for Tika. So, I guess in a way I have answered your question. So Virtual my question for you is… What is your hang up with having a small dog sleep at the foot of the bed? Afraid it might go after a bone? LOL!! You do know small dogs can choke on small bones….Right! You’re not afraid of that happening now are you?

I am deathly afraid of horses (though willing to handle them, they just make my knees shake and they can tell that I'm nervous so they get nervous too) but that wouldn't stop me from dating somebody who owned and loved horses. I am definitely an animal person though. Give me enough time with any species of animal and I'll figure something out.
After all, my goal is to have a 50 dog capacity rescue on 150 acres of land with a herd of sheep. If that isn't a deal breaker for most people, I don't know what is. :) I probably shouldn't be too picky about anything else. | |
