| | Trying to lose the baby weightPage 2 of 5 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) | Ok don't give out your weight, but bagels, and waffles are junk food too. Get rid of them! No fruits, starchy, or simple carbs 5 hours before bed unless it's before and after workout (workout is not cardio, nor is it carrying your child while you walk to the store, or picking up heavy items at home). It means if you actually went to the gym and lifted weights. Eat three portions of carb meal with your first three meals, eat five meals total, never over 30grams of carbs except breakfast go 50 grams. Treadmill or walk 30 minutes a day on an empty stomach if possible, water and coffee only, crystal light is fine. Cut out all fruit juice, too.
Example
Breakfast 8 egg whites cup of oats Meal 2 Lean chicken 25grams of any carbs you choose. Meal 3. Turkey, shrimp, egg whites or chicken with 25 crabs of carbs of anything you chose.
Meal 4 5 whole eggs or lean beef plus veggies
Meal five 8 egg whites one whole egg + veggies.
Follow this and don't snack in between see how different you look in four weeks, don't cheat and don't give any excuses to why you can't. Your welcome:)

| Trying to lose the baby weight Posted: 3/3/2010 10:19:00 PM | OP, you have different dietary requirements than your one-year-old child. If you're not working and you're not exercising, then you've got time to prepare two different meals. His could be a variation of yours, not the other way around. One-year-olds don't eat that much; it's not too much of a stretch for you to prepare your own food. You've got a lot of excuses for not doing anything. Time to start really thinking about whether it's important or admit you secretly don't care and accept your weight for the moment. | |

| Trying to lose the baby weight Posted: 3/4/2010 7:17:53 PM | ok seriously you dont need gym equipment...walking is a great way to drop weight or jumping jacks or jumping rope or taking your one year old to the park and putting her on the swing or going to a library getting some working out dvds... eggs are a great way to start the day forget the waffles and make some crepes though ..crepes are only milk eggs and a lil flour healthy and simple put a some fruits on that and one tablespoon of syrup and youll feel like youre having a treat...no bagels no waffles..yoghurt is fine and good for your bones and only have bananas once or twice a week they are pretty high in calories. Usually chicken soups(either homemade or bought) for lunch. I eat a lot of chicken, a lot of veggies, their frozen though because that's all my son will eat right now, take out the baked (with a bit of olive oil and seasoning) potato's or mashed and put in a half sweet potato. Other than that control your amounts...you dont need to be extreme you need to be smart..so many people have unused gym equipment or gym memeberships ...if youre unable to start by doing free good exercises, getting any of these will be a waste of money...check out the oxygen magazine website by robert kennedi ...they usually have some exrecises that you can do at home and can be a great source of inspiration...good luck | |

| Trying to lose the baby weight Posted: 3/4/2010 7:57:59 PM | ^^^ Thank you. Most days i do eat egg's in the morning. I'm not really big on bread except for bagels with cream cheese but i don't eat it every single day. Its my comfort food along with Banana's/oranges and grapefruit, especially during the winter/early spring. I grab for those instead of grabbing for chips/pop or anything really sugary. I use a lot of sweet potato's here about the same amount as regular potato's.
I agree, I had a gym membership about 2 and 1/2 years ago and i barely used it. My sister has a treadmill and a couple of those Ski machines (a small one and a longer one), I'm actually seeing her saturday, so i had planned on asking if i could borrow what she doesn't use just for the time being(Ie:, while all this snow is on the ground lol). I had planned on getting a jump rope, another poster mentioned it above, and i never thought about it before. Its just a matter of getting into town to purchase it.lol . I have a set of weight's(just 4.5lb dumbells) and an exercise ball. I use them and have been losing weight, I just haven't been losing it fast enough for my taste ,because i see my plastic surgeon in a couple of months and would prefer to have reached a good 25%-50% of my personal goal.
workout is not cardio, nor is it carrying your child while you walk to the store, or picking up heavy items at home)
Sorry Scott, I just had to point a little something here before you jump to the conclusion that i live 5 minutes or so from a store lol. Where I live, It takes a good 30 minutes at a brisk walk to walk to the store. Carrying a 30lb one year old in snow there and back without a stroller is not feasible. Like i said, I live in the country, not in the city.

| Trying to lose the baby weight Posted: 3/4/2010 8:55:40 PM | | A lot of people are recommending that you drink water, and avoid soda, which is a good idea. Another easy way to control your portion size is to drink a large glass of water five minutes BEFORE every standard meal. This will help guarantee that you'll get enough water, and it will help you from overeating. Just be sure to pay attention and stop when you feel full. The stomach is usually about five or so minutes slow at telling the brain that it's full, and when your meals only last 10 minutes, thats a lot you can over consume. Other than that, it all sounds like good advice to me! | |

| Trying to lose the baby weight Posted: 3/4/2010 9:21:30 PM | | I have a very fat friend who has lost 25 lbs in two months on an unusual life-style diet. Unlike most recommendations, there is no breakfast. He squeezes fresh orange juice and mixes it with nine parts water. He sips this all day (keeps his insulin level). His first meal is lunch - way less carbs than what you describe. He has cut out all sugar. All of his meal portions are the size of his fist. He has lost this weight without exercising! I can't imagine what he could accomplish with a bit of exercise. If I find the name of his program, I will post it. It's quite different than most. | |

I can't imagine what he could accomplish with a bit of exercise. If I find the name of his program, I will post it. It's quite different than most. If you are "very " fat, then pretty much doing anything that was different to what you have been doing will produce short term results.
That in no way should be considered a gauge for a successful weight loss program.

that sounds awful Brooker and is not a way to live...why cant ppl understand the best way is to be normal dont eat humonguous portions Stymied! I reread my post and can't find where "humongous"(sic) portions are mentioned. My friend's portions are reduced compared to what he used to eat - fist sized.
What's interesting to me is the "no breakfast" which seems to go against the grain of all other diet programs and yet it appeals to me. When I wake up, I am just not that hungry. If I force myself to eat a "good" breakfast, I usually find that I am "empty" and ravenous by lunch.
As told to me, he claims that one does not need food/energy after sleeping all night. One needs liquid and just enough sugar to keep insulin levels steady. I promise that I'll find a link to this controversial idea.
I am captivated because I am one of those non-breakfast eaters and because of the spectacular body change I've witnessed in my friend. He claims that it is effortless. Imagine if he put some effort into it and did some cardio? He's starting to look good though.

| Trying to lose the baby weight Posted: 3/5/2010 6:01:20 PM | Lil B, I"ve been following an alkaline diet with food combining for the past two months. I too have never felt hungry in the morning and forced myself to eat oats, then found I was ravenous by lunchtime. With this way of eating, I have water with lemon juice and an apple for breakfast, have another apple for morning tea and drink water or green tea until lunch. Then I have my mainly green salad with a small amount of protein (usually tuna, sometimes chicken) for lunch, some almonds for afternoon tea if I feel like it, with more green tea and water and my ""starch" meal at dinner. No carbs at all - only from the copious amounts of green vegetables I eat, as well as from the fruit and the cottage cheese I eat about 4 times a week with coleslaw. No sugar except for the apples in the morning.
My skin looks amazing, I've lost 12lbs, my energy levels have tripled and I feel good. I'm expanding more and more into raw food and putting ground flax on my salads. Have my fish oil and multi-vit and I'm a happy girl.

| Trying to lose the baby weight Posted: 3/7/2010 8:37:14 PM | | Tracey Mallett has DVDs for pregnancy and post pregnancy as well as quite a few good all around workouts. She makes it fun. Her Quick Blast duo are quick and easy and can be done throughout the day if you don't have a large block of time. You might like her book, too, Sexy in 6. It has recipes, exercises (it comes with a bonus DVD that features some of her exercises from other DVDs). There are inspiring stories from women who have lost weight following her methods. | |

I never look my actual weight. Well, that means you must have a lot of muscle which is good for you.
I really cant NOT eat what I want. I try to eat small portions of it but it really only helps that I always put this fiber supplement in my food (like burgers, sandwiches) because it blocks a quarter of the calories. Have you tried bumping up the fiber? It makes your body really work at digesting it, and fiber blocks calories (up to 25%). Fiber. Fiber. Fiber. The more organic the better.

only thing i got to say is wait till a person gets off the diet and see the yoyo theri body does... your friend is losing weigt cuz he was obese and now is consuming way less calories ...that is all. Found more info about my friend's "diet", which is actually described as a "behaviour modification course". It was sponsored by his medical insurance at his workplace and is called naturallyslim.com.
Online reviews of this method of losing weight are warm and glowing. My personal intrigue with it is that it is the only plan that I'd ever heard of that does not promote breakfast. All my life I've been told that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and yet I simply am not hungry when I wake up. Trying to follow the "breakfast" mantra, I used to *force* myself to eat in the morning. This Naturally Slim plan suits my natural body clock and hunger needs. It's all very interesting.

| Trying to lose the baby weight Posted: 4/9/2010 5:49:55 PM | Our Dr told us that if there are no health issues and weight gain during pregnancy is within a norm a full baby weight loss can be expected by 5 months post patrum.
She said it is like a body has a memory and will try to go back to where it was before. Of course I guess it doesn't include pigging out for months after a baby. Breast feeding is a factor too.
My wife was only 8 pounds havier after the baby arrived. 6 pounds were gone within 3 weeks. I guess those 2 are left but her boobs became larger because she breastfeeds and I guess it is milk.
She had flat abs before pregnancy. Guess what now few weeks later her flat abs are completely back. No way to say her body changed after a baby except her breasts.
But I wouldn't worry to much abou it. If I were you I would give it 6-8 months. I could care less it was 40 pounds quite frankly.

| Trying to lose the baby weight Posted: 5/18/2010 6:23:04 PM | So, it's been a while, and i figure i would pull the thread up again to re-thank everyone for the advice. I do have a couple more questions though.
I recently bought a really good Hydraulic (with 8 resistance settings, calorie counter, speed, distance, pulse rate and time) elliptical machine practically brand new this past Saturday. I did have it set to the first resistant setting and found it too "loose" i guess you could say, so i did put it up to setting number 2. Though i do find it hard to go more then a couple of 20 minutes intervals with a 5 minute break in between to down some water at a time now then i did before. So, I was wondering if anybody had some good advice to how long i should strive for every day. I know it might seem a bit silly to ask, but i find I'm really out of the loop on how much time to spend on this for maximum results especially since i want to keep this going while I study for my online course(starting Mid-July) and i do want to incorporate this into my day. ( I do know to keep this up after i reach my goal weight loss to maintain my weight, it's just a matter of getting there)
I don't use the machine while my son is up because the first time i did he kept wanting to stick his fingers in the joints of the machine and i'm afraid he'll get them caught. I have two hours in the day time when he's down for a nap and then all evening/night after 7-7:30pm when he goes to bed and after i clean up the supper dishes, afternoon/early evening mess.

| Trying to lose the baby weight Posted: 6/15/2012 8:16:19 PM | I wanted to bring this up again because to be honest since i posted last I really didn't do anything about my weight issue until April 1st of this year. I've gotten over being incredibly ashamed of my weight ,by April 1st when i first jumped on the scale for the first time in more then a year and half I was/still am grossly obese, I was at 270 and it really was a huge eye opener to what i really was doing to my body. It was gross and I got absolutely disgusted with myself. So I borrowed a Zumba DVD from a friend of mine and changed my eating habits, took out a lot of the processed foods and I'm eating much more fresh whole foods then i ever did in the last 3 years. I'm so excited to say that I've lost so far 23 lbs(I'm now down from 270 to 247) and a total of 6 inches (bust, natural waist and hips combined) and I feel really good.
But I got bored of Zumba, I wasn't sweating nearly as much when i first started and i didn't find it challenging enough. So I took a week and searched for something new and this past Monday(July 11th) I started Insanity. It's incredibly tough and i love every minute of it. I also plan on eating more of a plant based diet(because meat isn't the only source of protein) and I've been kinda on the fence on wether or not i should invest in some protein powder to help build a little bit of muscle. Is it necessary ?
I also plan on not drinking coffee(Today is actually the last day for coffee) anymore just because of the amount of sugar i realize i'm still consuming with adding in the granulated sugar and flavored coffee whitener. I also plan on quitting smoking again(tomorrow actually lol) I figure that because i've come this far and have had the will power to stay away from junk food, fast food that I will have the will power to completely quit smoking as well, and because i don't have any kind of junk in the house/cleaning out the rest of the "crap" there shouldn't be any reason for me to actually gain any weight.
I've found that in the past 5 days from when i first started the Insanity program(And i do as much as i can with using proper form) my knee pain has decreased to the point where there's little to no pain now and i'm not as nearly sore as i was the first day. I still have back pain(due to being very heavily chested) but it's not as sever as it was before.
So when i do start the full out plant based "diet"(not necessarily a diet per say, but more of a lifestyle choice to eat much cleaner then i ever have before) would it be a good idea to invest in a protein powder ?

| Trying to lose the baby weight Posted: 6/22/2012 11:57:25 AM | What you eat or dont eat is what makes you gain or lose. Exercise makes you fit.
For long lasting health and slimness I recommend that you go alkaline forming foods 75%-80%
It will fall off, esp if you do not eat any grains at all.
Only weigh once a month and throw away any elastic waist pants like sweats. No grains or processed foods/sugar. No diet foods/sodas Dont drink your food/calories like juices unless you water them down 75% Take extra fiber with meals for a while Have ONE meal a week that you can be "bad". (If you want ice cream for lunch have it.) follow the plan other meals. Get enough calories/food that your metabolism doesnt shut down
Veggies..4 servings a day. More if you can. Fruit 3-4 servings Beans/legumes 4 times a week Nuts Every day 2 servings or nut butters ( read labels no sugar ect) just nuts or make it. Organic dairy/ eggs Every day (one or both) esp plain Greek yogurt with nuts or no fruit/sugar added. Meat that is lean like bison and no more than 3-4 times a week. Fatty fish Healthy fats twice a day Coconut oil taste great, flax oil is also good esp for making dressings. Herbs and spices Organic apple cider vinegar helps some Green tea Sleep 8 hours a night or as close as you can get. Learn to love spicy food. Start with ginger grated in tea and on some meats. No "sweet and low" use stevia powder or leaf.
ALWAYS have a lot of fruit and veggies in the house so that when you are ravenous you can eat and eat.. If you want 10 apples..eat them Do not keep bad food at home.
Get outside and join groups that do not use food as a recreation.
Walking, biking, yoga. Start with your food addictions first.
Don't let a set back get you down.

| Trying to lose the baby weight Posted: 6/22/2012 2:50:21 PM | Protein powder? no. You don't need it. Eat a whole vegetal diet and you'll get plenty of protein. There are plenty of powerhouse vegetal sources of protein, but in any case most folks believe they need way more than they do.
Quinoa, kale, and brocoli are good common sources of plant protein and lots of vitamins and minerals as well.
That said, powered liquid meals can be convenient and give your body a rest from digesting solid foods.

| Trying to lose the baby weight Posted: 6/22/2012 6:35:06 PM | Theory is easy, execution is murder, pun intended.
My first suggestion is to journal your diet for a week; journal what you are eating and the total calories for the day.
You won’t be able to correct what you are doing if you do not know exactly what you are doing!
Most people have no idea how many calories they are consuming and way under estimate the number of calories they consume.
Also, there may be an imbalance of the types of food you are eating, carbs, protein, fats etc. And there may be way too much no no food, you know, the cookies, chips etc.
And if you are eating off your child’s plate, you need to include that in your calorie count!
After a week review the journal, are there trends that you can address? Form a plan.
You may have to count calories for a month or more to develop “calorie awareness” where you have a good idea of the approx. number of calories that you are consuming with out counting them.
You may have been told to eat six small meals a day and if that works for you, ‘great!’
It never worked for me, I was always hungry, miserable and finally gave way to my craving.
I gave up on the six meals a day, or by the clock, and just ate when I felt like it. I didn’t know it at the time but I fell into IF diet, (Intermittent Fasting), I’m not recommending it: jus saying it match “MY” natural eating habits.
Now here is an important point hon, you should not be looking for a new diet, but a new lifestyle. And exercise should be things that you enjoy rather than daily self torture.
I’m the last person to ask questions on nutrition, but I have a lot of ideas if you wish to pick my brains I’m more than happy to help. I have a lot of ideas that ‘may be of use’.
Good luck to you!

| Trying to lose the baby weight Posted: 6/23/2012 3:56:20 AM | Journals are an excellent way to keep track for losing and gaining if needed. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Even just making sure you get the nutrition you need.
I could live on melon/ apples and eggs/yogurt but keep a journal to keep up with my needs like kale, spinach and meat.
you should not be looking for a new diet, but a new lifestyle. And exercise should be things that you enjoy rather than daily self torture. ^^^^^^^
If you can't see yourself living that way by enjoying real foods ( experimentation with herbs and spices is fun)and having FUN moving your body you will eventually stop.
Dance!!!Even gardening gets you out doing something and moving muscles.
That said, powered liquid meals can be convenient and give your body a rest from digesting solid foods. When you are busy and if they are filling and not full of junk that is OK too once in a while. Don't just go and get a recommendation from some cashier at the VITAMIN store and get just anything.
I find making a smoothie or my own from a high protein greek yogurt is more palatable for my taste.
It sounds simple to follow strategies because it IS simple. Doesn't mean it starts off as EASY.. If it was everyone would be slim with the knowledge out there.
Look at Jessica Simpson. She should have dropped 25 in the birthing room alone adding in water and placenta and 10 by now just from breast feeding alone and laying off those addictive donuts. 4 million is her incentive already paid by a common diet company to lose the weight. She is struggling.
Then we wonder If bad food is addictive..YUP it is.

| Trying to lose the baby weight Posted: 6/23/2012 11:27:22 AM | | I firmly believe just because you are pregnant doesnt give you free reign to be a pig and gain 50 plus pounds thats just ugggh. I only gained 20 lbs and Im almost down to my weight. Its not hard to not drink soda or eat fast food. If I can do it anyone can. if you dont have willpower sucks for you. jessica Simpson looked awful pregnant. I was horrified when I saw how bad she let herself go. Hope she loses it | |

| Trying to lose the baby weight Posted: 8/21/2012 6:52:59 PM | So, Arctickiki- i'm sorry but Skinny fiber is a scam, just like any other bogus weight loss product that suppresses hunger and whatever. I'd never use any kind of weight loss product, especially something that's MLM.
So, what i've been up to in the last few months since i last posted. I'm down a total of 37 lbs(from 270 now at 233) now and still figuring out what exercises i like to do, that i know i'll do, on a regular basis. lol that's definitely still a learning curve, over the summer months i've been out walking, i tried insanity and i discovered after a couple of weeks that i really didn't like it and it just wasn't for me and I also was able to get in a bit of swimming too.
Peppermint- great advice, As always ! When i actually started my journey April 1st i did quite an overhaul on my eating habits, more whole veggies, leafy greens, grain is fairly minimal (I haven't been able to give up regular and multi-grain cheerio's lol, but instead of eating it all the time, several bowls a day, it's now just a few, like 3/4 times a week for breakfast only), whole grain brown rice and Quinoa are minimal, roughly 2-3 times a week, I also still eat bread, but nearly as much as i used to. I usually keep fruit fairly minimal. As far as indulgences go, I had my 2nd piece of chocolate the other day in almost 5 months, and two glasses of(small glasses) of soda in the last 5 months, so i don't indulge very often since i find now that if i happen to indulge, the things i used to eat in large quantities are now way too sweet and really don't taste as good as they used to. I'm really not much of a meat person, I lean more towards chicken or fish if i do make it. I always keep the fridge stocked with a variety of veggies/lettuce and a few favorite fruit, so now if i get a "craving" of something sweet or crunchy, then i can go for sliced red pepper, some baby carrots or raw green beans. I definitely learned that, if i don't buy it, then i can't eat it lol
I live out in the country at the moment, so i only know a couple of people out here, my parents and my neighbor who is morbidly obese, but she doesn't have the drive like i do to do anything about it.But i am hoping to move back into the city in the next couple of months and if i can budget it out, I'd like to re-join our local YMCA. They also have childcare for part of the day for a very low fee for a maximum of 2 hours , so i wont have any excuse not to go.
Sorry this is so long guy's !
jashor- I actually did start to journal everything i ate not too long ago, writing down every little thing i consumed , and i figure i'm going to keep it up so that in case i plateau, i can go back and re-evaluate my eating habits and make changes where there needs to be changes and definitely keep more of an eye of what i'm eating just in case i start going back to bad habits and not really noticing it while i'm doing it. I don't eat cookies, or sweets, Like i mentioned above, i indulge every once in a while, but it's now small portions and never consumed at home.
I'v found i can't deal with eating 5-6 small meals a day, it drove me crazy when i tried because i don't like to eat when i don't feel hungry, that was one of my horrible habits, eating when i was bored and when i wasn't hungry as it was "something to do". I definitely agree that it shouldn't be a "diet", I'm making a life style change, it may be a little slow, but it's working and i'm much happier for it. I'm now able to show my son what a healthy lifestyle looks like so that he doesn't pick up on the bad habits i used to have. My eating habits may not be perfect right now, but i'm getting there.
It may be "slower" then what i expected at the start, but no one said weight loss was fast or easy lol
I may have between 83-93 lbs left to go, but my loss of 37 so far is a hell of a start !
|
| Trying to lose the baby weight Posted: 8/26/2012 9:04:01 AM | Hey guy's, I had a quick question, and i figured instead of starting a brand new thread, I'd just post here. I did a few quick calculations the other night and discovered i only had 55 left to lose to get back down to my 6 week post baby weight of 177. Now mind you that's not the "end" goal i have in mind, but it is the goal i really want to achieve by christmas. It's so that by May/June of next year i'll be at my ideal weight so that i can start to tone and maintain(not to mention buy a whole new wardrobe lol) Would it be possible to lose 55 lbs(i've lost 38 so far as of this morning and finally out of "plus size" jeans as of friday, from being in an 18 to a now 15) in that time frame ? That gives me exactly 4 months. I technically wanted to have lost the first 100 lbs by then, but right now it doesn't seem possible, as i would need to lose 62 to get down to 170, which is 100 lbs from where i first started this past April. I'd really love to pull on my size 11's christmas morning.
I mean, is it really possible to lose 100 lbs in 9 months ? (that would actually bring me to losing 100 lbs by January 1st, if it is indeed possible).
Obviously i don't know everything there is to know about losing weight and any/all tips would be highly appreciated, I've gone this far from getting myself out of the severely obese BMI to just an obese BMI. Being obese is not something i'm proud of, but i am proud of the progress i've made to becoming healthy and getting to a healthy weight. I still have 9 points(according to the BMI scale) to get myself from being obese to just over weight. I'm really committed to creating a healthy lifestyle so any kind of feed back good or bad is much needed.
