| most Underated band? Posted: 10/26/2011 9:55:03 AM | Great thread! Had me scurrying off to youtube to listen to a few bands I've not heard in ages .....
Killing Joke - indeed way ahead of their time. Janes Addiction - years since I've listened to them, until today!
My vote go's to a band called Ride, who emered during the 'madchester' era in the late 80's and were (obviously) eclipsed by their better known counterparts, Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, and later Oasis (who Ride member Andy Bell later joined.)
Seemingly long forgotten - except in my house - Ride produced a unique fusion of blitzed-out, guitar based psychodelic melodies I've never heard the like of before or since.

| most Underated band? Posted: 11/3/2011 7:23:50 PM | Grace Potter and the Nocturnals...she has an AMAZING Joplin-esque voice, and the muscians are fabulous.
Steely Dan....need I say more?
Louisiana's LeRoux....flat out mesmerizing harmonies. I have seen them live (my band opened for them and Zebra) and they are better live than on the album. Leon Medica kills on bass!
Zebra....rock gods! Randy Jackson is just awesome...but is even better in his accoustic shows than he is with Zebra.
Tom Petty....not really a great vocalist, but a lyrical genius, and a brilliant composer.

| most Underated band? Posted: 11/3/2011 8:24:14 PM | | The most underrated bands (to me) are by far the White Stripes and Muse. Yes, I know some people bash Muse cause they do have a few songs that are ehhh recently. That being said, their album Absolution for example is crazy amazing. Not to mention they're "incredible" live. And Matthew Bellamy is a sick guitar player! | |

| most Underated band? Posted: 11/7/2011 3:00:16 PM | | Head East and Deep Purple never got the respect they deserved. Also, very few ppl really know anything Grand Funk Railroad did, aside from just a couple of songs. | |

| most Underated band? Posted: 11/9/2011 1:04:24 AM | I'm thinking Tristania and Sirenia. They may be more popular in the US, but every member is very talented, both have female front women that make you shiver when they sing, plus the range of the instruments played is sweepingly grand when you listen to a few minutes of it.
Also, I know that this doesn't really count, but I could listen to Carl Saigan and Stephen Hawkings tracks for hours, especially a glorious dawn. It's so awesome!

| most Underated band? Posted: 11/9/2011 10:18:34 PM | purple is under rated?
they helped create metal.
they have the most played guitar riff of all time.
they sold over 100 million albums.
i think they got a ton of credit.
k.w. well deserved too.

For as much unabashed hatred as they get...Nickelback
lol.
How can they be underrated when they are so popular??
I am gonna give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you meant over-rated!
God they suck lol | |

| most Underated band? Posted: 1/12/2012 9:59:08 AM | NRBQ - the biggest phenomenon no one's ever heard of
System of a Down - a very wide range and versatile group
I don't know about Steely Dan being underrated as much as they are under appreciated. Most of the feedback I've heard on them is mostly a love/hate thing. It's more Donald Fagen's voice, in truth. I've always loved them. 'Aja' is probaby one of their greatest.
Emerson, Lake and Palmer - wayyyy too much influence on future styles and not enough credit.

| most Underated band? Posted: 1/14/2012 8:07:35 PM | I cant believe not one person has mentioned MSI. Mindless Self Indulgence from begging to end has always been my go to music when im sick of everything else. Unlike most bands.. albums get progressively better as they matured as a band.... vs getting progressively worse as time moves forwards. Jimmy Urin's vocals can not be reproduced by any other human being and lyrics are fantastically strange, hilarious, and awesome all rolled into one.. Put on the song Get it Up and try not to enjoy it... i dare you... | |

P.O.S. - one of my favorite rappers. He has an amazing flow that takes you by surprise, and off kilter beats with punk influences. He actually talks about issues rather than the "I'm the shit. I'm the shit. I'm the shit. I have lots of money." rap that is popular nowadays.
Yes P.O.S. is amazing. He is one of the most talented and interesting person in music. He has 3 amazing albums, all with its unique sound but it always sounds really good. His flow is the best I have ever heard, and his lyricism is untouchable. Not to mention that he makes most of his beats, and he plays guitar and vocals for a really good hardcore band.
If you doubt his skills watch these videos

Also his whole group Doomtree is amazing. WINGS AND TEETH

P.O.S is awesome (there ain't enough rappers name-dropping Isis), and Porcupine Tree is... shit, HAS been amazing for years and years now. Steven Wilson is brilliant and they're simply one of the most flawless live bands I've ever had the pleasure of watching.
