The friends and family who shout "Are you Nuts" I have heard the men are all rapists and the women manic depressives - all of which is not true, we are all just normal every day people using a modern method of meeting people.
the continued writing - "it is cheap enough or free to ring a person", stop with the second guessing due to texting, continue with being yourself, ring and say goodnight, does not have to be long, just a quick "wanted to hear you before I fall asleep"
And, if you find the one you really like, if it could be messed up with misinterpretations in texting - ring the person and talk to them and tell the truth - you have nothing to lose and you will hear how they feel.
OP - sorry the holiday thing does sound like she intended to meet someone, but then wanted you texting or her friends did (game playing)
you can only play games if you know all the rules
