Othroexia Nervosa closely related to Anorexia NervosaPage 4 of 6    (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6)

Some of the greatest minds in history have been lambasted, marginalized and ridiculed for daring to think outside of the box - So, possibly Dr. Rath is no exception.

When terrible diseases continue to take their toll on human life, I think it's more than necessary to continuously question the current treatments.

It's also very interesting that when a so-called rebel against mainstream Big Pharma takes a stand, that every nasty stone is unturned about them and yet, pharmaceuticals and Big Pharma have injured/killed millions and we've become so de-sensitized to this reality that we barely flinch....it's just an acceptable risk.
Sounds like brainwashing to me!

yes, "SOME" of the greatest minds..., and "POSSIBLY "he is no exception.

It does NOT follow that EVERY person who 'thinks outside the box' or has 'radical' ideas is 'among the greatest minds in history'.

some are just plain WHACKED, though they all trot out this somewhat tired cliche:

"all great minds were ridiculed, I am ridiculed, therefore I am/have a great mind"

MANY of the people who have been 'lambasted, marginalized and ridiculed' are just plain wackos & charlatans, as well ..keep that in mind?

It's almost as common as the "Einstein flunked grade school, therefore *I* could be a genius" thing.

this does NOT necessarily mean that if your kid flunks out of grade school, s/he is destined for greatness in scientific achievement....

The mainstream media that is largely controlled by the pharmaceutical industry when it comes to reporting about pharmaceuticals and alternative medicine will no doubt have a field day against the successor to two time Nobel Laureate Linus Pauling who has been an outspoken critic of the Pharmaceutical Empire and advocate of the use of vitamins and minerals instead of medications which cure almost nothing and only manage symptoms.

Typical of mainstream bias, what you will not likely see reported is the fact that Dr. Rath and his foundation were invited to South Africa and fully supported, even to this day, by the South African Minister of Health. When word of his successes using vitamin therapies against HIV began to spread, the pharmaceutical industry mounted a furious sham attack to suppress the therapies through industry funded front organizations and influence peddling in the South African government to get them to reverse their own Minister of Health.

While you will see the fact that "some" patients who had advanced AIDS symptoms died while on Dr. Rath's vitamin and mineral program, you will also not likely see reports of the deaths from those on the antiretrovirals of the pharmaceutical industry, including at least 4 death from one center as a direct result of ARV side-effects. Nor will you see the fact reported of the harm that ARVs cause to the already impaired immune systems of AIDS patient.

And you will almost certainly not see any mainstream reporting of the successes of Dr. Rath's program or the studies that back it up, such as this information that the ARV industry desperately wishes to suppress:

The smear campaign against Dr. Rath ---
Posted: 8/13/2010 11:11:13 AM
Though it can be said that perhaps Dr. Rath has been overzealous and myopic at times in some of his accusations (and I personally believe that the some of the wrongs he lays at the feet of the Pharmaceutical Empire are actually part of a broader conspiracy),the evils of the world Pharmaceutical Empire have been well-documented dating back to the late 1800's, continuing through the Nazi atrocities and the Nuremburg trials and most recently spotlighted by the misdeeds of pharmaceutical giant Merck in the rigged studies and hidden evidence of dangers surrounding Vioxx.

One wonders where the mainstream media was when Dr. Rath was awarded a record sum in a successful defamation suit against the British Medical Journal after the inferred he was responsible for the death of a 9 year old boy who rejected mainstream treatments for cancer. The allegations received widespread coverage throughout Europe, especially in the heartland of the Pharmaceutical empire, Germany. Dr. Rath's victory garnered but a tiny fraction of the widely covered sensationalized charges the BMJ was forced to admit were bogus.

Some may find it telling that most of the articles critical of Dr. Rath today heavily cite de-frocked quackbuster and industry tool Stephen Barrett of the infamous Quackwatch organization who has yet to find a single alternative to mainstream drugs which he does not consider quackery.

Statement by the Dr Rath Health Foundation
in connection with the recent court case
in Cape Town, South Africa

On June 13, 2008, the court in Cape Town cast a verdict in a case brought by two organizations that promote toxic ARV drugs as the solution to the AIDS crisis: the “South African Medical Association” (SAMA) and the so-called “Treatment Action Campaign” (TAC). While SAMA is a well known organisation with its leadership closely linked to the drug industry, the TAC may not be known beyond the borders of South Africa. Its activities can best be described with two statements which the same Cape Town court – in a previous case – did not find objectionable: “they organize rented crowds for the drug industry” in order to “force the government [of South Africa] to spend millions of Rand on toxic drugs.”

With this distinctive description of the initiators of this litigation the background of this case is apparent to everyone: The purpose of this legal attack by two ARV promoting organization is to discredit life-saving vitamins as unwanted competition to the multi-billion business with toxic ARV drugs. Vitamins are documented in every textbook of biology as essential to prevent immune deficiencies – but they have one disadvantage: they are not patentable and therefore threaten the giant investment business with patented ARV drugs.
The work of the Dr Rath Health Foundation in South Africa

While the plaintiffs in this litigation – SAMA and TAC – have been well characterized, the work of the defendants – the Dr Rath Health Foundation – deserves a short descriiption. As opposed to the patent-driven pharmaceutical industry the Dr Rath Health Foundation is a world leader in the promotion of science-based natural health. Moreover, as opposed to the profit-driven pharmaceutical industry, all shares of Dr Rath’s organization are held by a non-profit foundation, promoting research and education in natural health. These two highly ethical facts about the work of our Foundation further fuel the anger and aggression of the ARV-promoting organizations behind this case.

In 2004, the Medical Research Council (MRC) of South Africa invited Dr Rath and his Foundation to bring its knowledge as a leading research organization in science-based natural health to South Africa and in particular to help in the fight against the AIDS epidemic. The approach was strictly science based since there have been no less then 9 Nobel prizes awarded in relation to the health benefits of vitamins, most of them for documenting the role of vitamins in enhancing the immune system.

The need for new public health approaches to the AIDS epidemic was particularly urgent, since none of the currently available ARV drugs can cure HIV or AIDS and their extreme toxicity severely damages all organs of the body, in particular the immune system (www.arv-facts.org).

Astonishingly, the pharmaceutical industry has been able to promote these highly toxic drugs to millions of patients suffering from the immune deficiency syndrome AIDS – despite the fact that they are known to further damage the immune system – and thereby aggravate the immune deficiency. Even more amazingly, this fraud on the health of millions of people had remained largely unchallenged for a quarter of a century.

With the advent of the Dr Rath Health Foundation in South Africa, the pharmaceutical multinationals and their stakeholders were facing two challenges at the same time: Their giant multi-billion Rand scam with toxic ARV drugs was exposed and the knowledge about vitamins as science-based natural enhancers of immune function was being disseminated.

In order to document the health benefits of vitamins in relation to immune deficiencies we followed two avenues. Firstly, we prepared a protocol for a double-blind placebo-controlled study at the Medical University of Southern Africa (MEDUNSA) in Limpopo, under the auspices of the head of the Department of Family Medicine, Professor Sam Mhlongo. For over two years, this project was obstructed and sabotaged by the agents of the pharmaceutical industry within this academic institution. Finally, on October 6, 2006, Sam Mhlongo was run over and killed by a truck when he was about to leave the MEDUNSA campus.

Secondly, we donated a multivitamin programme we had developed to the South African National Civic Organization (SANCO) as part of a community health programme organized by them. The vitamins were handed out by SANCO free of charge to community members affected by immune deficiency conditions in poor townships of South Africa. In order to document their status, the community members filled out a questionnaire.

After the car accident had terminated the life of Professor Mhlongo one would have thought that any responsible doctor – let alone the South African Medical Association representing the doctors of South Africa – would have a genuine and urgent interest to investigate any possibility to improve the quality of life for patients living with immune deficiencies and AIDS. One would have thought that such an important clinical study would not be dependent on one person but would be in the interest of the entire medical community – and above all of millions of people in South Africa.

But nothing was further from the truth. The promoters of ARV drugs were apparently afraid of any clinical comparison between their toxic drugs and immune system supporting vitamins – like the devil was afraid of the holy water.

The death of Professor Mhlongo terminated the clinical study project scheduled to document the health benefits of vitamins in fighting immune deficiencies and AIDS. Even worse, the promoters of ARV drugs, in particular SAMA and the TAC, intensified their efforts to eliminate any and all documentation about the health benefits of vitamins in the fight against immune deficiency and AIDS.
Desperation of ARV Promoters

This is the reason why SAMA and the TAC presented to the court a case built entirely on false assumptions and maliciously distorted facts. In their complaint against the Dr Rath Health Foundation, the government of South Africa and others, the ARV promoters SAMA and TAC falsely portrayed:

* the community and health programme as an “illegal clinical study;”
* the multivitamin programme as an “unregistered drug;”
* the SANCO community centres as “unauthorized clinics;”
* the Dr Rath Health Foundation as a “pharmaceutical” sales organisation;
* Dr Rath as a greedy “entrepreneur” profiteering from the misery of the poor;
* the government of South Africa as “silent supporters” of such wild, alleged actions.

It is a remarkable fact that these lies – which essentially turn the facts upside down – were alleged in official court papers by organizations doing precisely what they falsely accuse us of doing. In reality, it is SAMA and the TAC who are:

* deceptively promoting toxic substances that have never been proven to cure HIV or AIDS as life-savers to millions of innocent patients;
* forcing the government of South Africa to spend billions of Rand for the import of these harmful drugs, which no government agency anywhere in the world has approved as a cure for HIV or AIDS;
* deliberately hiding the fact that the manufacturers of these toxic products are compelled by law to document on the ARV product information leaflets a reduction of white blood cells (“leucopenia,” “neutropenia,” etc.) and other damage to the immune system of patients resulting from the severe toxicity of these drugs;
* sacrificing the health and the lives of millions of people for the profits of the drug companies that manufacture ARVs;
* causing fear and intimidation among the public by attacking individuals and governments alike who dare to hold the facts of science against this ARV charade;
* literally embarking on a crusade against those – like the Dr Rath Health Foundation – who expose to the world the real motives behind ARV promoting organizations like SAMA and the TAC.

Respect for the truth and proper conduct in civil societies make such action impossible for normal individuals and organizations. Not so for the promoters of ARVs – they are in the desperate situation of having to defend the indefensible. It is an insult to the intelligence of every man and woman that toxic ARV drugs – substances known to severely damage the immune system – allegedly represent “the answer” to the AIDS epidemic.

The ARV promoters are forced to uphold this card-house of lies at the expense of the demise not only of the multi-billion Rand ARV business – but also at the risk of their own demise; hence the unprecedented aggression and malicious distortions – even in court papers.
The Court's Ruling

The trial that took place three months ago was accompanied by a media frenzy organized by the news stakeholders of the ARV business in Africa. The attorneys representing the ARV promoters SAMA and TAC repeated the malicious distortions of the truth even in their oral arguments and conducted themselves in a fashion that bore resemblance to the worst propaganda rhetoric in history.

In light of this aggressiveness, it is truly a challenge to uphold the voice of reason. One is tempted to ask the questions: “Why are these organisations so aggressive? Is there something to these allegations, as otherwise these people wouldn’t behave so extremely?” For any observer it is difficult to look through this propaganda rhetoric and detect the fear and desperation of the ARV promoters SAMA and TAC as the true motive.

Obviously, we would have liked to have received a verdict that would have clearly reflected our position as stated above. But we are convinced that some of the remaining issues can be clarified in appellate proceedings and that the scientific facts and the truth will eventually prevail.
The Scientific Facts Remain Solid

The scientific facts remain untouched by this verdict. They are:

1. Vitamins are a science-based, effective and safe way to stimulate the immune system and help fight immune deficiencies. This fact is documented in every textbook of biology and biochemistry and is recognized by several Nobel prizes.
2. ARV drugs can neither cure HIV nor AIDS. This scientific fact is required by law to be explicitly printed in every product information leaflet by all ARV manufacturers all over the world (www.arv-facts.org).
3. ARV drugs, which are offered to millions of patients suffering from immune deficiencies like AIDS in South Africa and around the world, damage the immune system and can aggravate immune deficiencies. This scientific fact is also explicitly part of the product information leaflets of ARV drugs.

Typical of mainstream bias, what you will not likely see reported is the fact that Dr. Rath and his foundation were invited to South Africa and fully supported, even to this day, by the South African Minister of Health

OMG - do you not understand the corruption and superstition behind AIDS in Africa? Until recently, many African governments would not even admit that people in their countries had AIDS or HIV, or that it was in any way a crisis.

SOUTH AFRICA: Corruption could harm HIV/AIDS efforts

"Even where ARVs are provided free by the state, health workers may ask for 'top-up payments' or bribes."

JOHANNESBURG, 29 November 2007 (PlusNews) - No one can say for sure why South Africa, which has devoted more resources to combating HIV/AIDS than any other country on the continent, still has the highest number of infections in the world.

A new study published jointly by the South African Institute for Security Studies (ISS), a think-tank, and Transparency International Zimbabwe, part of an international coalition against corruption, attempts to offer some answers.

The report, A Lethal****ail, asks why dramatic increases in both government and donor spending on South Africa's HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment programmes in recent years have not translated into "positive results".

The study concludes that "corruption and poor oversight are a potentially lethal****ail when combined with the rapacious AIDS disease".

The difficulty of following and accounting for AIDS money coming from multiple government and donor sources, some of it earmarked for the public sector and some flowing directly to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) increases the potential for corruption. However, the authors note the difficulty of disentangling actual instances of corruption from basic mismanagement and weak systems.

Most HIV/AIDS funding is channelled through provincial health departments, which have struggled to absorb and manage such large sums. The result has been several cases of provinces underspending their HIV/AIDS budgets.

Few of the people working in the health and HIV/AIDS sectors interviewed for the study could point to cases of "grand" corruption, but they reported many incidents of "petty corruption and mismanagement of resources": doctors charging for services that are supposed to be free, or the theft of antiretroviral (ARV) drugs from hospitals.

A Lethal****ail also highlights the role poverty plays in encouraging HIV-positive people to engage in corrupt practices, such as registering at more than one treatment centre and then selling the extra ARVs, or bribing a doctor to certify them for a disability grant.

But according to the study, it is the politicisation of HIV/AIDS in South Africa that has created the greatest space "for abuses of power by political actors in support of controversial views".

The authors argue that President Thabo Mbeki's questioning of the link between HIV and AIDS and the efficacy of ARVs has afforded protection to senior political figures and health officials who have become actively involved in the promotion of alternative AIDS remedies, or intervened on behalf of people like the controversial vitamin salesman, Matthias Rath.

Other problems with South Africa's HIV/AIDS programmes - like the delays in setting up tenders for the procurement of ARV drugs, the one-year lapse of the major prevention programme, Khomanani, and the relatively slow pace of the ARV treatment rollout - are attributed to a "lack of political commitment".

The study suggests that "the narrow legal definition of 'political corruption' ignores certain aspects, such as the lack of political will to curb a health problem or implement a life-saving policy", but Nicoli Nattrass, director of the AIDS and Society Research Unit and Professor of Economics at the University of Cape Town, is unconvinced.

"Just because Manto [Health Minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang] supports [Matthias] Rath, doesn't mean Manto is corrupt," she said. "I'd say the issue around treatment is definitely political will. As far as rising [HIV] prevalence [is concerned], the jury's out on that question. South Africa is sitting at the bottom of a huge continental pandemic, and that's not in and of itself a sign of policy failure."

Nattrass said the report's calls for greater accountability and transparency "can only be a good thing", but she was worried that the study could feed into a "backlash" against HIV/AIDS efforts resulting from recent revelations that UNAIDS and the WHO overestimated global HIV infections.

Methinks Rath is guilty of everything you so loathe about Big Pharma........politics, lies, corruption, money, and just plain ignorance.

p.s. Please also start to reference your citations in each post as well.

Now, what role does he play in Orthorexia Nervosa?

As was recently highlighted in The Ecologist, the report says studies have shown that the results of drug trials are more likely to be positive where funding is provided by the manufacturer, and that many research articles are ghostwritten in the name of eminent doctors who may or may not have had access to all the trial results.

‘All the while, consumers are in the dark about how their medicine consumption choices are the result of veiled relationships between doctors and the pharmaceutical companies,’ says the report.

If the facts are untouched, then you should have no problem "touching" some actual peer-reviewed studies that support your hypothesis that vitamins are a more effective treatment than Anti-Retrovirals.

And while you're at it, throw in some suggestions for treating Orthorexia Nervosa! HAHA!

Baycol deaths -

Bayer's anti-cholesterol drug, Baycol (also known as Lipobay and cerivastatin), has deadly side effects. The Food and Drug Administration received reports of 31 US deaths due to rhabdomyolysis, a potentially fatal adverse muscle reaction that results in muscle cell breakdown and release of the contents of muscle cells in the bloodstream. Symptoms include muscle pain, weakness, fever, nausea, and vomiting. Bayer admitted that the drug might have killed 52 people already worldwide, with another 1,100 potentially crippled. Although Bayer voluntarily recalled the drug after a large number of deaths, Germany's health minister, on 25 August 2001, accused Bayer of sitting on research documenting Baycol's lethal side-effects for nearly two months before the government in Berlin was informed.' A number of individual and class action law suits have been filed, including one in Pennsylvania which cited 480 cases of Baycol-related illnesses. The number of Baycol related deaths has risen to almost 100.

"servile followers" - nice - I am not a 'follower' of big pharma, I question them, AND the QUACKS like naturopaths, "Crystal healers", etc. who claim their way is the only right way -by their accounts, big pharma all bad, but they are selfless healers..lol like NDs aren't in it for the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ ??

The fact is, he got this from one quack. One solitary doctor, who had one patient that died. One! Not tens of thousands, just one! Yet they ran with the story if there had been clinical trials done for years on this.

I'm willing to bet:

1. he has pharmaceutical advertisers on ABC
2. he has fast food restaurant advertisers on ABC

What journalist would run with a story that says, stop eating organic food? What journalist would say stop eating healthy? One that is paid by big pharma. One that is paid by food by-product producers.

There is no such thing as Orthorexia Nervosa. This is made up. It is a scare tactic to get people to stop eating healthy, and to get them to eat more processed food, and take more drugs. Imagine if you would, that they could have you declared as having Orthorexia Nervosa and force you to take anti-depressants.

With 70% of the American population being diagnosed as being obese, there is no room for charlatans like Stossel to come on national television with such hoaxes, just in the name of selling t.v. Please go sell crazy in some other country.

apparently 'eating right' does not prevent one from getting a little hysterical ..sort of like a bipolar patient who forgot their lithium for several days -but bipolar disorder is another "fake" diagnosis, right? sorry I forgot

if you just eat natural apples no disease will ever happen to you -cancer? never..

Anorexia is also a 'fake' disorder right?

Like George Carlin used to say: " people are starving all over the world -rich b1tch doesn't want to eat? - fvck her.."

was just pointing out there are already several anti-pharma threads , perhaps 'rant' was not the best term. I am not a servile follower of big pharma, though . I guess staying OT is a silly pipe dream ;)

These global ruling elite are the matador, designing to confuse,
disorient, and fatigue the bull before plunging the sword through it.

Alhhh the old truism that the masses are just chattel for the rich and powerful ruling elite. Nothing new here the average joe and jane have been manipulted and used to further the gains of the rich and powerful for many centuries now. Tis the nature of our species. We just have access to more information and are bombarded with more misinformation now so we have more lies to sift through and more decisions to make regarding our everyday lives. The question that comes to my mind is it mentally healthier to go with the flow or chart your own course knowing you will be met with resistance and ridicule along the way. And since mind and body health cannot be disconnected the placebo effect on our health is always a factor. A firm belief that what we are doing is right is half the battle sometimes and the media works this angle to their advantage every chance they get.

attempt to proclaim good for evil, and evil for good — healthy for

a new battle within an old war — a war long since waged by the
viciously depraved power elite who are desperately trying to
debilitate and dement the populations of nations, in preparation
for their global genocide, which the global power elite have admitted
to in their now-public “National Security Study Memorandum 200″.

Hi Cheshire ...et..al...

Some deny "we" visited the Moon…; They have references (citations), then there're those who say various genocides never happened ... more references; and then those who believe Global Warming is or isn't a scam or that an asteroid did or didn't punctuate the age of the dinos. In this continuum, the non-conformist refutes accepted theories references for/against global warming get better and by the time you get to the dinosaurs and what happened when no around today was watching the science even gets to be gold standard vs. groupthink with an arguable equal gold standard.

I think the folks you ask for references and ignore the requests are just charlatans evangelizing on their own pulpits if they are not amenable to critical thinking and just a bit of intellectual intercourse rather than a self-satisfying version of mental gymnastics spewed all over in a soliloquy from a vacuum.

As for the original thread here, references (citations) are right on topic IMO. Big Pharma...Big Food Processor - six of one or a half dozen of the other. Reading nutritional labeling has had me cut back on my favorite food: pizza - where a slice and a half has a whole day's allotment of sodium*. Everything I see is that society is being led by the hand with group-thinking mentality that advertised chemical reagents in package food are always "ok" to eat. Is it the same syndrome that if something appears in print, why then it is authoritative and trumps any spoken word. Then there is those who say something – and then dig in and think because they said it they must cease to think critically about it and defend it at all costs…Now if someone can sell it in a package ... well the package itself makes it authoritative – so the food is fine. Why - a cheese Big Mac is very healthy - its nutritional content is superior to everything under one set of rules - 100% of the daily RDA of Kcal (and calories are part of good nutrition). Never mind the rest; that would be hijacking my point about the wonders it does for calorie, right!?

There is no substitute for someone willing to critically weigh the pros and cons of any issue. Many of these discussions IMHO are caused by participants with a little knowledge proselytizing because of the stimulating endorphins it creates for them, or the pleasurable sensation that accompanies the destruction of well structured ideas or just reeking anarchy when others have tried to advance the race. Also, some may have a desire to be taken seriously by others who are concerned (since at home no one takes them seriously because they know something the casual stranger doesn’t, but here the person frantically trying to make a point will take on anyone since most everyone gets dug it and sensitive to a degree) - but who has no interest at all in making a comprehensive study on the subject to merit any badge of authority whatsoever…

Just my anarchistic 2c for this thread….

*There are plenty of gold standard research studies Googleable in an instant that will show the relationship between salting down our lives with high blood pressure, stroke, heart disease, hormone imbalances, water retention, loss of mobility, poor sexual performance, maybe Diabetes (I haven't lifted a googly finger to check the later two but heck if everyone else can spew off whatever they like I will too:-)) So a little paranoia (=critical thinking when we've be defrauded so many times before by trillion$ of advertising dolalrs) is definitely healthy syndrome. I have Bigpharmaphobia, a refined alimentophobia, and disdainability for all these hypnotic witchdoctors that dominate out society. Clearly I am a mental case ... but I still enjoy life and feel filled with energy and satisfaction...go figure?

If you are replying to me hehee, I am not sure where I suggested critical thinking includes bashing others that are mentally challenged or fixated on selected data without considering the gestalt (need a psyche terms to sound more authoritative here)... that is just cruel in my opinion.

Carl Sagan had a nice set of postulates to detect baloney (=critical thinking) and the identification of Baloney. Googling...here, this is exactly:

Google this for the YouTube video in case links are a no-no:

Bashing opinions is a controversial subject and not included in critical thinking, so please don't sulley the pure science with other points. That is simply a matter of patience among rational beings. When someone repeats the same referenceless complaints and makes no effort to engage the contrary thinkers, we all have our ways of releasing our frustrations with them.

And for the record, I agree that plenty of people are overly concerned with the wrong things in their diet and a Latin name for the condition doesn't faze me either way. (but the suggestion that it is being used by food companies in promotion does trouble me)

It is not all about happiness - nothing is that simple. If someone likes eating toasted apple seeds, and they are removed from his diet, his happiness really is not of premier importance...generalizations are not very helpful (ironically my statement an offending generalization also).

I wasn't addressing anything you wrote although my posts followed yours. I was addressing earlier posts about the need for citations.

You list many allegedly bogus studies by suspected dishonest authorities and say:

So, this is the almighty science and this is the truth???

Almighty? Please! What are you trying to prove in pointing out that cheats abound in every walk of life and big industry is quick to accept whatever sells better?

It is unclear whether you are being critical about rational thought or only those misappropriating logic and reason to create an authority where only a process exists.

I'm addressing your comment on "almighty science" I quoted above.

Science and deductive reasoning are simple tools, not religions. As such it is an equal opportunity scrutinizer. (Also, Sarnia, guilt, innocence and statistics are irrelevant in the search for truth).

oh, even the tiniest glimpse of truth or reality angers some, doesn't it?

If you think that posting urban legends qualifies as truth or reality, then you are the one that is in possession of a "revolving door of reality." Your idea of reality just won't ship out the door. Do you have monsters under your bed? Your fear mongering is more than a touch unreasonable.

What's next in a thread supposedly covering Orthorexia Nervosa?

How to Survive the Coming Martial Law in America?

Articles comparing fluoridation of water to Nazis medical experiments?

Or Articles claiming that the "globalists" are trying to control you with genetically modified crops in order to achieve "full spectrum" domination?

Just sayin'

Edit to add - Pluto - good to see you!

Do you think it's possible that sometime, very soon, there will be new drug on the market for this orthorexia? (or maybe there already is) Do you think it's possible that's the reason it's being brought to light to begin with?

Again, worried that someone might be given a drug? In all likelihood the treatment for O.N. is quite different from Anorexia (which is likely why it has been put in a class of its own) and probably consists primarily of cognitive behaviour therapy. It therapists are treating it anything like Anorexia or Bulimia then they are probably trying to change the patient's outlook via support groups or by admitting to an outpatient or in-patient treatment centre. Unlike anorexics, who restrict their food because they want to lose weight, orthorexics know they are thin and restrict what they eat because they want to feel pure and healthy.

If someone is admitted to a treatment centre, you know automatically that counselling is the main focus in helping the person become well. That may or may not involve drugs - treatments are generally tailored to individuals these days.

Whatever the treatment, I'm sure they're not going to stick a funnel in someone's mouth and pump HFCS in a continuous feed. People who drop down to 60 pounds as observed in the ABC vid are also obviously in need of nutritional counselling, something that doesn't actually come in a pill form from Big Pharma AFAIK, which is why patients weighing 60 lbs as an example, are admitted to a HOSPITAL. They MAY treat them with medication, depending on the root cause, or they may supplement them with Omega-3s, as adjuncts to anti-depressants.

When I see some solid evidence for this disorder, then maybe I'll be compelled to take it seriously - as Taken65 stated already, it looks like it's being piggy-backed onto a legitimate disorder to give it credibility where it most likely deserves none.
