Whats the feeling on older men and younger women?
Posted: 4/29/2006 4:01:02 AM
I am 64..I have dated women from 26 to 65..Dated! Because I do not believe in sex outside my marriage. My late wife was 9 years younger than me. I am in the process of divorcing my current wife, who is 10 years younger. In the period after my wife died and before I married my soon to be ex..I discovered that age really doesn't make a difference. A 26 year old lady cane be more mature than a 65 year old. A 26 year man can be more mature than a 65 year old..And, sometimes, 65 year olds never grow up..Just my thoughts

"It depends on the age spread. I was seeing someone 53 - I'm 48. I can see him dating a 40 year old. But when he told me about the 26 year old he was seeing last summer that was a total turn off of a possible relationship for me. In my mind he would be comparing me to someone almost 1/2 my age - and I know that I just don't compare and never could"

If your man is comparing you to anyone, you just might be in the wrong place..Lovers/wives are not put here to do comparisons/window shopping..They are here to cherish, no matter what the age differences are.

"Superswede,
I hear you about finding an older woman in her 40's and 50's and not having to worry about child rearing. I wish I could say the same about the men in their 40's and 50's. Too many of them have young kids under the age of 16. I had an email from a 54 year old fella with an 8 year old daughter, do the math on that, he'd be in his mid 60's before the child is on her own. I said "thanks, but no thanks". There's other things I'd like to be doing besides raising kids."

Very simple answer, when my wife and had all the children we wanted, I had a vasectomy..Our grand children are all about the same age..Worked out well for us..When she died, I did not regret it..I have fathered all the kids I want..And, yes guys..it still will work as well it did before the surgery..LOL

I have been contacted from time to time from women in their early 20's and I find that we have so little in common, I just don't think it could ever work. I'm 38, I feel like I am about 30. Women that are 28 to 32 seem to match better than women that are 35 to 41. For everyone else I talk to it is different. I know part of the reason some age difference works is because of how long it takes men to mature. I just thank God that women are more flexible on age or we would probably all be alone. :)

Good fishing,

James

I dated a woman 14 years younger than I am, she had a daughter 5, and we had no problem with the age difference, to me it is a state of mind, I did alot with her daughter, i.e, playing on the swingset, playing catch, playing with her with her doll set, etc, her mother liked the fact that I was a good role model, on the other hand I don't think I could date someone in there 20's as I have 3 grown boys that age and it would be to wierd. If two people are attracted to each other you can get by the age difference.

well, personally i don't want my guy to be younger than me, but i'd prefer if he wasn't any more than 10 years older than me, otherwise it might feel weird. i'd kinda of feel like i'm being fathered, and that's just too icky a feeling.

My 2 cents is that we would all be happier marrying a people our own age. Communication is easier when we are on the same level.

"Rare"?
"What would/could they offer" probably a whole lot more in every way than many if not most young men who are still struggling with career etc.
"Exception to the rule"?

A year ago I was dating men much younger than myself...
It was a blast, however, I did find that there is such a thing as too wide an age gap: mentally that is...

There have been those that mentally were of the same maturity & those who I felt *at times* as though I was with friends of my kids...

So yes, age IS just a number...

Look to life experience & maturity when seeking someone compatible...

Of course all those sweet young things of both sexes are pleasing to the eye...
But are they as sweet to the emotional/mental palate?

The best "formula" I've heard for the lower age limit is 1/2 your age +7.
so at 50......it would be 32.
I'm 45 so mine would be 30.....I rounded up.
Personally, I've never dated anyone that much younger and although
I wouldn't go so far as to say age is just a number......I would say
it's really up to the two people involved.....unless one of them is
under 21.......and in my opinion......people over 21 should not date
people under 21.....I know that those of you in your early 20's won't
like that.......but it's my opinion and you won't change it!

Personally, I prefer an older man- my ex-husband is 12 years older than I am- age wasn't the issue for our break-up. I think it depends on the people involved and how mature each one is. I have dated younger than myself, and men my own age- some are more mature than others- it just depends on the person. Age really doesn't matter, and you shouldn't be judged by a number. I still prefer older. Dunno why- just me.
Does that math work for women too? Hmmm... So, I should be dating a man who is 29?????? I dunno about that one, lol!

Positivemale Id rather date guys older then me. Sometimes they can be more mature and I dont feeel like Im dating someone fresh out of high school, but then again the older guys do feel that they want to settle down.

50+ year old men have been marrying, dating, having 28 year old old women as mistresses and the like forever It's too common. Will it last depends on how strong your heart is :)

Nooooooooooo.........I didn't say that's the age you SHOULD be dating!
I thought that I clearly stated that the formula is for establishing the
LOWER age limit.......the youngest age you should date........an age at
which anyone younger should not be considered of appropriate age.....
.....somone under that age would be considered too young.........NOT,
again.....NOT the preferred age, the age you should date, or the ideal age for
someone to date.

I hope I was more clear this time.

I have dated women in their late twenties..I am forty. I find the biggest hurdle now is not age, but generation differences. It seems perfectly normal to "go for coffee, dinner,movies..etc..." with more than one person at a time these days..I am finding myself a little too old fashioned to be dating younger women and competing as I was in high school..This trend is not for me..I just ask for someone's undivided attention...just for a bit..Is that too much these days? Am I the one who's wrong?

Okay i did a search on younger women and older men and came up with two threads active the rest locked --- but there was over 20 open threads on younger men and older women

Seems a man that has a woman that is 10 years younger then him is considered a sleaze bag and must be rich or powerfull to have a younger woman

A man that seeks a woman say 10 years younger than himself is considered delusional

Yet in all the older women younger men threads its accepted as okay that the woman is 20 + years older then the BOY

now i dont know what its like in your respective parts of the world but i have from experience found that women say 30 years old in australia will accept a boy of 18 or 19 but only a man that is a maximum of 32 ( 2 years older)

Actually in Australia women tend to believe that if a man is 5 years older then themselves he is ready to be put out to pasture ( I have overheard this said about me by women 5 years younger than me )

I guess its just a changing world -- call me old fashioned but I just cant get into this accepted double standard

thr difference is............... an older man really doesn't have much to offer a younger women..........and let's hope she is a woman; other than money! what a young man can give a older women is a powerful (bang! bang! bang!) and to some makes them feel good bout themselves. or maybe she's being a sugar momma! i can only speak 4 myself!(ok) i dated a few older women too. most was for what they had to offer.... clothes, money, a place to stay! others i was really into......... age was nothing BUT a number! but really people have to learn the hard way what it beez bout! good our bad!

Jaybotucker, your parallel would be valid not by comparing men and women, but comparing old and young.

The real comparison to
What an older man can offer a younger woman?
would be:
What an older woman can offer a younger man?

HHHhhhmmmmmm......and at 34 you're considering yourself a "younger man"?

an older man really doesn't have much to offer a younger women.

spoken like a younger man......so maybe at heart you are......who hasn't learned
the value of experience and maturity.

what a young man can give a older women is a powerful (bang! bang! bang!) and to some makes them feel good bout themselves.

I'm sure there are many "older men" and women who've been with them who would
argue that these abilities are not limited by age......and many women who've been with
inexperienced "younger men" who would agree.
