| Soccer in the United States Posted: 7/13/2011 3:19:38 PM | How can Liverpool be the best when Real Madrid and AC milan have both won more Euro cups/Champions league finals? 9 and 7 compared to 5. Plus Liverpool is the team for bandwagonners and Asians. | |
|
| Soccer in the United States Posted: 7/13/2011 3:42:38 PM | | Hey Hierro82. It's quite ironic that you spew your hate towards Americans, when the team that you adore (despite your pictures showing you wearing an AS Roma and a French National Team jersey, but none with a Liverpool jersey) happens to now be owned by Americans. Oops. | |

what a typical ignorant reply from an american
The greatest ignorance is to reject something you know nothing about...And I bet I know a lot more soccer than you would ever know about ANY American sports.
its quite simple soccer will allways be the worlds biggest sport
Who gives a sh!t?!?!
oh and dont get me started on the worlds most boreing game that is baseball
Please don't...Your stupidity has already been proven on your posts. No need to go any further...Thaaaaanks!!!

| Soccer in the United States Posted: 7/13/2011 4:45:58 PM | My opinion..
America.....or U.S.A as it likes to be known could be the greatest football nation in the world....
but..
They have their own sports. Football is at least 4th choice as far as the broadcasters and advertisers are concerned.
Its always good engaging in conversation with Americans about the beautiful game though.

| Soccer in the United States Posted: 7/14/2011 2:51:00 AM | Time for them to grow up and not play **stardised versions of Euro sports. Callling their domestic championships the world series and world champions is rather cringe worthy.
Cheers F.P. | |

| Soccer in the United States Posted: 7/14/2011 12:33:19 PM | | hey vegas gambit, i play a lot of soccer as im training to be a soccer coach so i have about 50+ soccer shirts to train in, which most of them are liverpool jerseys, yes im wearing a french jersey because liverpool fans dont follow and support england, i have milan, madrid, barca, argintina, spain jerseys the list goes on, i have not got man utd, chelsea, arsenal our everton shirts though haha, whats anything got to do with yanks owning liverpool fc ? i just hate the fact most americans are racist towards soccer as it was not invented on yank shores, anyway has been a good debate, im out of here...peace!!!! | |
|
| Soccer in the United States Posted: 7/14/2011 12:43:13 PM | Did someone just say that Americans are racist towards soccer?
I really would love an explination on that big time.
That makes no sense at all, whatsoever.

| Soccer in the United States Posted: 7/16/2011 5:43:26 PM | I'm kind of surprised by the reactions this thread has generated. The post above this one is a good example. Just really over the top strangeness.
I don't much care about the game myself, but I watched some of the Women's World Cup. I can understand why some people love it. But I can't understand why anyone would bother hating it. There are threads here about driving a car around and around a track for hours at a time. I wouldn't watch that on a bet. But I have also never looked at the threads devoted to it, much less felt compelled to post a comment.
They do make ice cream in different flavours - liking one over another doesn't confer moral superiority.

| Soccer in the United States Posted: 7/16/2011 7:48:52 PM | Frankster says:
Callling their domestic championships the world series and world champions is rather cringe worthy.
Let me re-post what I wrote back in message 14...to some Brit who said something similar:
"""""because it(the world series) wasn't mean to evoke world-wide participation!...the so-called "world series" was (is) a final match-up between 2 baseball teams from different leagues which was begun in the early 1900's....and was first sponsored by a now defunct NYC newspaper which was called the NY WORLD.....hence, the eponym--> "WORLD" series.........Kinda like the EPL being (stupidly) renamed by its sponsor....Barclay's bank, the BPL!!""""""
...now you (and others reading this) will fully know as to why its called the 'world series'.......as far as US domestic championships go, there is no other credible league in any other country besides the USA that plays NFL type Football(just like there is no other country besides Aus/NZ that plays Australian Football)...therefore, you can easily conclude that the winners of these domestic league championships are also 'world champions'!
cheers.... ------------------------------------------------- @ Bozo447
Soccer is a sport for communist/socialist nations that change governments every 4 months.
^ quite funny....but based on your appearance, i gotta strange feeling that you actually believe this!
come to think of it, I wish we in the USA had the privilege of being able to change the gov't every 4 months........if we did, i'd bet the politicians in charge would be hustling their f*cking butts to do what is right, before the 4 month deadline....but since we don't, they can just sit on their duffs for as long as they please as the economic crisis continues to spiral to the point where we are now contemplating a default!

| Soccer in the United States Posted: 7/17/2011 2:18:05 AM | Baseball must be a sport for communist/socialist nations too then, as its the major sport of Cuba. You know baseball? that game derived from the English girls game of rounders.
Yes everyone knows that noone else plays NFL or Aussie AFL, but in Aus they dont call themselves the world champions, there is a bit of humility. Must be an insular ego thing.
|
| Soccer in the United States Posted: 7/17/2011 6:07:45 AM | Yet the gridiron players played in pads, lycra and helmets and some only play for 2 minutes a game, true grit there. Good to see things are changing, kidds are seeing the money in football in Europe and the tactics and different playing styles countries have.
Good stuff. | |
|
| Soccer in the United States Posted: 7/17/2011 8:17:31 AM | | Well, rugby was too hard. So they added padding, long breaks, "huddles", took out anything requiring endurance and the game was Americanized enough for those "gritty" American kids. | |
|
| Soccer in the United States Posted: 7/17/2011 9:10:35 AM | | ^^Rugby is a ton of fun! Now that's a sport that I wish was more popular here too! | |
|
| Soccer in the United States Posted: 7/17/2011 10:00:22 AM |
If you have never put on pads and played American football it's very difficult to relate the experiance, but you feel almost invincible, as if you could run into a tree at full speed and not be harmed, consequently, in American style football, the players hit each other much harder. As a result there are far more serious injuries in American style football that rugby and that , my friends, is why it takes more grit to play American football than any other sport in the world.
i like both sports but this is apples and oranges, yes they do hit harder in football, rugby is about toughness (the game stops for no man) and stamina..
and who doesn't like stamina in a man
|
| Soccer in the United States Posted: 7/17/2011 10:09:11 AM | I didnt grow up in a Rugby town, Rugby league is played up north. Aussie football here. Why does a sport have to be full of toughness though? Id rather see, skill on the ball, wonder goals, a creative midfielder weaving his magic. tactics. | |

| Soccer in the United States Posted: 7/17/2011 12:38:55 PM | | The US don't like sports they're not dominant in. We should let them win the world cup sometime just to get them to play with everyone else. Just look at boxing as a sport Americans suddenly lost interest in when they started losing. HBO won't show the HW champ on their channel anymore because they're Eastern European. Same with baseball, too many foreign players started joining their leagues now that sport is starting to suffer too. Every country on earth should just start kicking their asses at American football, Americans would probably take up table tennis instead. | |

The US don't like sports they're not dominant in.
That's your opinion...Not a fact!
We should let them win the world cup sometime just to get them to play with everyone else.
Sure...That's a good idea! We'll just put the trophy next to our thousands of gold medals we have won in the olympics.
Same with baseball, too many foreign players started joining their leagues now that sport is starting to suffer too.
What?!?!
Every country on earth should just start kicking their asses at American football, Americans would probably take up table tennis instead.
First you have to understand the rules (which I know it's kind of complicated for you), so get back to us when you do.
|
| Soccer in the United States Posted: 7/17/2011 1:05:12 PM | Who really cares about the olympics anyway, besides one or 2 events. Its easier to win medals when you have a large black population, large population in general, College sports and high school sports are pumped full of money. Has the US won the Olympic football gold medal? the most popular event. | |
|
| Soccer in the United States Posted: 7/17/2011 1:17:44 PM | Has the US won the Olympic football gold medal? the most popular event.
Yup...Our women has won 3...Does that answer your question? And maybe on their way to win this years WC.
Its easier to win medals when you have a large black population
Kind of racist, don't you think?
|
| Soccer in the United States Posted: 7/17/2011 1:27:38 PM | Ah thats womens football, while good that they play it, its the mens game that gets all the headlines and prestige. Not racist at all, just stating a fact. Or isnt that allowed anymore? | |
|
| Soccer in the United States Posted: 7/17/2011 1:36:09 PM | You asked...Next time be more specific.
What does being black have to do with it? In the end we are Americans.
|
| Soccer in the United States Posted: 7/17/2011 1:52:29 PM |
Baseball must be a sport for communist/socialist nations too then, as its the major sport of Cuba
and lets not exclude North korea....who have picked up the game from watching the Cuban league...........N. Korea & Cuba, 2 great capitalistic countries no doubt.
everyone knows that noone else plays NFL or Aussie AFL, but in Aus they dont call themselves the world champions,
these domestic league winners are in fact World champions whether they call themselves that or not....simply because their sport isn't played anywhere else. *********************************************
In the US we don't have much respect for soccer because .....
because (as someone else correctly said) , Americans historically do not like competing in a sport that they can't dominate or challenge effectively.......That is slowly changing now, but look at the(summer) Olympic games, and you'll see that traditionally, the US had a heavy presence in Track & field, Boxing, Basketball, water sports...and sparse in other events where they haven't done as well.
the boys that went out for the soccer team were the nancy-boys who lacked the grit to try out for the football team.
soccer & football both have very different physical demands...thus, the 2 cannot interchange players....real soccer players are usually very aerobically fit, thin and nimble.....whereas Football players are muscular but bulky therefore slower and lack endurance to be able to play a free flowing game......If a high school player stunk at Football...chances are he'd stink even more at soccer, whether he'd wanna believe it or not!
If you have never put on pads and played American football it's very difficult to relate the experiance, but you feel almost invincible, as if you could run into a tree at full speed and not be harmed,
...obviously that isn't the case as you just pointed out....so its clear that the current level of protection isn't enuff....maybe they should all wear suits of armor!
my friends, is why it takes more grit to play American football than any other sport in the world.
its not really a matter of grit, as much as it is a matter of $$$$$....same goes for Boxing and MMA....if there was no money in it...nobody would be playing it!............over 80% of players making it into the NFL were reared in poverty and crime....they would otherwise be in jail or dead if it wasn't for the fact that they could legally hit pple in an organized sporting event! ************************************************************
We should let them win the world cup sometime just to get them to play with everyone else.
doing this might actually have the reverse effect....if it becomes that easy to win with a sh!tty squad, why bother with it!
HBO won't show the HW champ on their channel anymore because they're Eastern European.
this is basically true!.......interest has waned since there are no good Americans in the heavy weight class.
Same with baseball, too many foreign players started joining their leagues now that sport is starting to suffer too.
Baseball is not suffering (yet)........Baseball is too deeply rooted in the American culture for it to suffer from an influx of foreigners...but i'm saying knowing that there is still a majority of Americans on the rosters of most teams.

| Soccer in the United States Posted: 9/29/2011 4:13:04 AM |
.at least we all agree that soccer is a complete joke.
Well, the way the Americans play it is......

|
| Soccer in the United States Posted: 9/29/2011 5:56:00 AM |
my friends, is why it takes more grit to play American football than any other sport in the world. American Football is way overrated...they have some of the worst athletes at a professional level as far as overall fitness..there are exceptions but overall it takes less skill and fitness to play football well than any other sport except for Baseball maybe...
