Its free world, if you don't like it find someone that suits your criteria, you seem to really condem these women for smoking because as you state in your thread all of the negative side of it.Well before you start to pontificate about others vices I would revisit your own which I would assume to be gluttony and physical inactivness, hence your being overweight (heart disease, diabetes, sweaty unpleasent bodt odour etc..) . Im quite sure many women also find that "yucky" and realize that that too limits their choices while searching.

people smoke because it is an addiction. It's hard for non smokers to understand this because they usually think smokers smoke for the fun of it. Try relating this to some other forms of addiction, and maybe this may shed some light...for example, food addiction, alcoholism, etc. I respect the opinions of non smokers who state they wouldn't date a smoker - it's a disgusting addiction, and if I wasn't a smaoker, I wouldn't enjoy hanging with someone who smelled like an ashtray all the time

I quit cold turkey 23 years ago. I saw what it did to my mother and she quit 2 years before she died. Now 23 years later I had to re-live that nightmare to watch the man I loved for over 27 years succumb to lung cancer. I didn't like ashtrays in front of me when I was eating when I did smoke. There are NO ashtrays in my house now. Anyone who comes to my home KNOWS not to smoke in my house. So of course, I will steer clear of people on this site who do smoke. I know not to even pick someone who does, to try to get to quit. What's the point? I don't even want to "date" anyone who is an occassional smoker..........whatever that means. If someone really wants to quit they will but it has to be their decision. As you can see I was not able to convince my husband to quit and now he's gone. For those of you who do smoke I'm not going to preach. You like it so that's it. But please remember these words.......if you ever saw what it does to someone you love, you would quit in a heartbeat. I know cuz I've been there.......twice. So to me smoking DOES kill!!!! PERIOD!!!!

"Smokers are weak"
I don't think I am weak. I am friendly towards rude people and go out of my way to be gracious. I am finishing my degree with a hectic 7 or 8 class per term schedule while being a single parent. I smoke when I need to focus on writing 10 page papers -
but at least I get my homework done. I'll quit when I no longer need to jump through hoops.

Dog Mommy, smoking and alcoholism are both addictions yes, BUT people never take into consideration that first cig wasn't forced into a smokers mouth nor was any alcohol forced down the throat of an alcohol. People that are addicts made themselves addicts and that is the plain and simple truth, those of us that are not have to alter our lives or have our lives altered by addicts. Babies have to be kept clear of smokers in the family, put up with the smell and if you are allergic to cigs it is even worse. As for the drunks, there are so many drunk driving deaths in this world that it is sickening. This is my two cents.............

heh heh another pointless thread on people who smoke. Yes, how dare they? how dare these smokers come on a dating site and waste the OP's time,. is'nt it awful. And what was that? Smoking is bad for your health? NOOO why didnt some one tell me? Oh Ill stop right away then.
To the sanctimonious non smokers who are trying to scare people to their premature smoking deaths with hellfire and brimstone,.. I have news for you. Not smoking does not make you immortal,.. none of you. In the end, we will all die of one disease or another. Sorry to break it to you. have a nice nice day y'all. x

kamloops-you are right "smoking is still a choice" so let the people choose.Let them smoke if they want. It's their life.
As long as they don't do it indoors I don't have a problem with it.

op-if you don't like smokers don't go out with one ! end of............why the discussion

It is my utmost priority in life to quit smoking cigarettes. I love them...but they gotta go. I'm going on day 7 of this quit attempt....my third attempt in 14 years as a smoker.

I couldn't see myself getting involved with a woman who would keep me in the sweet seduction of tobacco. Believe me...I understand why you smoke...the way tobacco soothes is way too unreal to deny. However, I do not want to be a slave to it anymore, and if a dated a woman who smoked unabashed...then there would be no way I could stay away from the comfort of sweet, soothing nicotine.

It really is such a shame that smoking is so expensive, smelly, staining and absolutely lethal...

I'm not saying it isn't lethal, but it isn't absolutely lethal. You might be that 1 in 1,000,000 who smokes 60 a day until age 99, dies quietly in his sleep, only to have "smoking related death" written on his birth certificate .

I think if the OP doesn't like smokers, he should quit [looking at them]!

Ah to each their own. If you don't like it then click on someone else. I have nothing against smokers, or people who do drugs. It's just not for me.

I don't date smokers because I am allergic to the smoke. My nose and throat swell up and I instantly get stuffy noses and coughs. Plus I think it stinks and I don't like it. If someone doesn't like the fact I don't date smokers they can quite honestly kiss my @ss! Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but I have a choice of listening to them or not. I chose not to. Solves that problem! Plus it doesn't hurt I live in California which is the anti-smoking capital of the USA.

Point missed - I don't talk to them, so why would I care what they find offensive?

I hate to be the bad news fairy once again, but the harsh reality is: you are probably "accidentally" talking to smokers without you even knowing they do it. I dated a man for a long time and not only did I NOT know, other than his own self, no one else knew either. He told me long after the fact. He was not one to smoke in any setting that his own little secret was noted. We even went on vacations and I still had NO clue. So before you are so abrupt to think there are always ways to determine if someone does anything outside of your very own eye-shot, don't be so sure. Some people are pretty stealthy if they wish to be.

~OT~ I agree with someone above: another thread just to poke nastiness at those they are holier-than (in their own view.) Addiction, want, or just the rebel in them ~ if someone smokes and you don't date smokers, don't date that person. I don't like lizards ~ would I date someone with an iguana? Not if the creature was welcomed along. We all have our own preferences.

Maybe not that remote. I've found that maybe 60% of the time when going out with a woman, that she is indeed a smoker. Only she doesn't see herself as a smoker because she does it only while drinking, when there is stress, etc. One woman said that the smokes in her purse were her friends, and not hers - yet a week later when she wanted me to fetch her keys, a new pack of cigs were there.

****these were all women who said that they did not smoke on their profiles

Well, maybe in your land of make-believe their are rogue groups of ninja smokers roaming the back alleys, but I think the liklihood of such an occurence as talking to a 'closet smoker' is rather remote.

I see. I mention ONE man and you post such nastiness??? At least in my little world of make-believe ninja smokers and back alleys ~ people treat one another with respect and decency and non-judgmental attitudes because quite frankly ~ anything else is just personal ugliness in plain sight for the world to see. To each their own. You and I are now at what I call an impasse ~ which means: discussion over on my part. Happy posting.

If a woman smokes it's not a deal breaker. As long as they brush on reg basis it's not that big of a deal. Even tho I mention it in my profile info it's still not a deal breaker. I suppose if I hooked up with a woman in time I would try to incourage her to stop or atleast cut down.

Can't understand your problem? If smokers bother you, then just move on! How easy can that be? Maybe having a women with mental issues would be a lot easier for you to deal with? God! That must be tough! Having to look at a attractive womans profile, and see smoker . I feel for you!

So you would try to change her?? Why even bother getting involved in the first place then.
Brushing alone doesn`t get rid of the smell, its in their home, clothes, hair,it`s everywhere.
A smoker is a deal breaker for me.

Well sugar face you live in a largely populated area. I live in the middle of nowhere. So you have many options and people to choose from all around you.You might possibly be a better looking women than I am a man. From where I live there's not 1 single woman in my age group with in 4.5 miles. Then the selection in that town would be maybe 2 single women that live a different kind of life style than I do.So since I live in a low populated area I have to lower my standards. I do agree that ciggarettes smell but then again I don't mind a nicotein kiss once in a while . I've had a couple nicotein kiss's in my life time that was rather nice
