| Women Who Smoke Posted: 7/21/2005 4:23:04 PM | | I agree with the OP. Guess what, in some Asian countries, men dominately smoke, but a woman who smokes in the same culture is considered about on the level of a ho. | |

| Women Who Smoke Posted: 7/21/2005 7:33:26 PM | | Why did you start? I am not saying this as a blame because I take full responsibility for my decision to smoke (been trying to quit off & on for 10 years). Started with peer pressure and I believe it has to do with generation also. In my growing up years, we were allowed to smoke anywhere, no one advertised that it was bad, the opposite. Movie stars smoked like chimneys. It's odd to look back at the movies 20 years ago and see how much cigarettes were used as a "cool" tool. I am so glad today things have changed. Some smokers are very considerate. I never smoke in my house, around my kids, rarely in public, I always ask even if I am out in the open sky - do you mind? Smokers breath? Not if you take care of yourself. Coffee cream breath - now that is offensive to me. So why not quit for good you ask? I know personally how hard it is to fight this addiction. Because I have quit and started many times, I know what battle I have to face. Even though I do not smoke a lot - I know this is not the right time to deal with it. I am proud that I smoke - no and one day I will achieve the freedom. | |

| Women Who Smoke Posted: 7/22/2005 4:11:13 AM | | I will never be happy with a smoker. I get a runny nose when I go into a smoker's house then I'm usually clearing my throat for 2 days and my clothes need to be washed from the smoke smell from the house or car. | |

Very nicely put! Back in the day smoking was not politically incorrect. When I was in high school not only was smoke wafting from the teacher's lounge when you walked by, but students used to smoke outside the back door between classes. As with so many other things, times have changed. We live, we learn, but habits that were born of that time are ingrained in us and it takes some doing to give them up.

| Women Who Smoke Posted: 7/22/2005 6:31:20 AM | If it bothers you that much, you are good to not respond to a smokers profile. As a smoker, and I really don't see myself ever stopping there is nothing more annoying that dating a non smoker that goes on and on about how horrible smoking is. Then theres the wave thing. Every time you light up they are waving their hand wildly in the air as if there is a forest fire going on. Then the do you know what it is doing to you? Yes, I do but it hasn't made me stop yet, why exactly do you think you can?
When I was looking through the profiles and came across one that said they did not smoke, I would just click on by. Why? There just isn't anything fun about dating someone that is that up tight about something you are doing.
Also 9 out of 10 times the non smoker has some sort of habit or life style that is just as harmful as smoking.

| Women Who Smoke Posted: 7/22/2005 7:10:20 AM | | I just can't stand the smell of tobacco smoke; I've been known to leave cabs and restaurants rather than put up with it. So occasional smoking is a warning sign, I'd make sure in the initial e-mails that she'd NEVER smoke around me, and regular smoking is pretty much an automatic rejection. I mean, it doesn't matter how perfect she is otherwise, if I can't actually be anywhere near her due to the smoke. | |

| Women Who Smoke Posted: 7/22/2005 8:45:31 AM | | I started smoking as a teen and quit 10 years later when I had kids and realized how bad it was for them. Then 20 years later ..when my husband abandoned us, and everything seemed to be crumbling around me, I started smoking again. It was a way to stay calm in all my turmoil. I KNEW it was a stupid idea, but I would tell myself, that it's just until I get through this. Well, my crisis is over, and I'm still a smoker. I don't smoke in my house or car. If I'm on a date with a nonsmoker, I don't smoke. I would rather not get involved with someone who smokes, because I am determined to be a nonsmoker - again. | |

| Women Who Smoke Posted: 7/23/2005 7:32:05 AM | | well while i do smoke about a pack every 3 days ......... I wouldn't be the one to judge anyone.. if you like it do it.... if you really like it do it more ..smokin, drinkin, drugs, whatever If I think its causing a problem, I'll mention it, discuss it, and if not corrected carry my ass | |

| Women Who Smoke Posted: 7/23/2005 8:50:24 AM | | Smoking kills you. Before you die you get very sick and helpless. People who smoke have some way of blocking out the reality of the consequences that await them. In the short term, smoking makes you look older, makes yo smeel bad, and costs a lot. If you smoke indoors where there are other people, it harms them as well, especially children. There is nothing good to be had by smoking that isn't had better by not smoking. It is like any self-destructive addiction. The addict's thoughts are clouded by their addiction. What they say about it makes no sense except to other smokers. One day you quit and start recovering your health, or one day you come home from the hospital with a diagnosis of lung or heart disease, cancer, and then all of the sudden when it's too late you realize how smoking made you stupid. So it is better to find a good way to quit now. Like today would be good. Quitting is a great goal. It is the first step to taking charge of your life. | |

| Women Who Smoke Posted: 7/23/2005 9:18:03 AM | I just quit...and I feel better and know I smell better now. The Moose is right...we are in control of our actions today. Now that I have quit smoking, I look at the future and think of all the other things I can do. Quitting gave me a great sense of accomplishment and pride in my ability to choose.
It only drives you nuts for about 3-4 days, day 3 was the hardest. Sometimes I want one, but I see how many X's are on my calendar (I draw an x each day I don't smoke) and the pride of what I have done is better than a cigarette.
Thanks Moose :) | |

| Women Who Smoke Posted: 7/23/2005 1:36:16 PM | I will say this about smoking...I don't care who you are or how long you've smoked... Sooner or later, EVERYONE QUITS. | |

| Women Who Smoke Posted: 8/1/2005 1:48:45 PM | I don't smoke, but I have 1 when I'm out at the bar or club... Which is not all the time or every week, mind you...Just to be kind of cool, even though I know it isn't, but it's my only time to be a little wild and loose...

| Women Who Smoke Posted: 8/10/2005 8:58:59 PM | I smoke cigarettes and pot. I don't smoke around children and have enough self control to not smoke in someone elses home,or if it's a non-smoking place. I am considerate of non smokers, even in my own home.
BTW: I can't stand the stink of a car's exhaust fumes. Makes me choke.
I can't swim in Lake Ontario anymore because it is so poluted, that we don't even have dead fish washed up on the beach anymore...lol. It's a dead lake. No thanks to those who ruined my lake and gave more work to the health department, as a result. All the smog that's upping the numbers of people with breathing problems is from big industry polluting our air and way too many vehicles on the roads. I don't like people who polute in public!
I don't stink, nor does my home. I walk 10-15 hours/week, just had a complete physical and got a very clean bill of health. Lungs clear!
I am upfront about being a smoker. I am not asking anyone to change for me or me for them.
Say all you want about the evils of smoking, but if the govt really wanted us smokers to stop, they'd stop selling cigarettes. But they don't, because of all the tax monies they make off of each pack of smokes. The sale of cigarettes pays for all the very expensive advertizing, warning smokers of the evils of lighting up. That's just one example of who is playing who. In one way or another everyone profits from the sale of cigarettes. Tax money!
I won't smoke up near you, if you keep your car away from me!

yeah, cause you can't smoke when your dead.
I used to smoke, and know how hard it is to quit. I got the motivation I needed. My Dad died from lung cancer and emphazema. I swore I would not let myself suffer like he did...no way in hell.
|
| Women Who Smoke Posted: 8/10/2005 10:45:50 PM | I really can't understand why some people feel like their sole purpose in life is to educate smokers about how bad smoking is and they keep going and going...We all know this theory, it's in the media, wtf ! I am a non-smoker now, i quit a few years ago by my own choice and i may smoke again if i so choose. If you are against smokers keep walking and shut up! | |
|
| Women Who Smoke Posted: 8/11/2005 12:21:30 AM | If you care for her..and she for you ask her to change..either quit or not smoke around you..
And if she wants to quit try help'in her with a little understanding how hard it'll be..

| Women Who Smoke Posted: 8/11/2005 1:40:10 AM | In a School science class four worms were placed into four separate jars.
The first worm was put into a jar of alcohol. The second worm was put into a jar of cigarette smoke. The third worm was put into a jar of sperm. The fourth worm was put into a jar of soil.
After one day, these were the results: The first worm in alcohol --- dead. The second worm in cigarette smoke --- dead. The third worm in sperm --- dead. The fourth worm in soil --- alive.
So the science teacher asked the class --- "What can you learn from this experiment."
Little Johnny quickly raised his hand and said. "As long as you drink, smoke and have sex, you won't have worms."

| Women Who Smoke Posted: 8/12/2005 3:55:10 AM | Well I date men, not women ;) but thought I'd contribute my 2 cents too. ;) I have dated several smokers and we usually managed fine so long as they did not smoke around me (ie. they would go out on the balcony for a smoke, etc.) It does get hard with the smell in their clothing and hair though (not to mention the quality of air in their car/house) and it's not very pleasant for kissing either.
Sooooooo, yes, I would consider dating a smoker but I don't think I could marry one or become serious with one because really they are taking quite a gamble with their lives and I don't want to become deeply attached to someone who is hanging on to a habit that will likely take them away from me and in a most painful and excruciating way.
(No offence to the smokers, none of us are perfect or without vices, I'm just answering honestly.)

| Women Who Smoke Posted: 8/12/2005 8:03:21 PM | | Well smoking can be a turn off for some people, but we are not meant to match up with anyone. In my profile it says I smoke often, but in actuality I smoke 5-10 cigarettes a day, which is reaaly not much. Now on the pot thing...not all potheads are sly, I have no problem letting people know I partake of the ganja. Different strokes for different folks...I'm sure there are a lot of women who don't smoke...I hope you find one who makes you happy! | |
