Posted: 9/19/2006 6:04:57 AM | My opinion (and it's only MY opinion) is that many women over 40 simply give up on their appearance. They get into the housekeeping thing, the soccer games and making dinner for the kids. There are a few simple ways to avoid looking like 65 when you are 45:
1 Don't wear polyester
2 Forget the sensible shoes
3 Go to a salon - don't do your own hair
4 If you are sprouting hair on your face, deal with it
5 If you look like 300lbs. in a 150 lb sack, call Jenny Craig
6 Wear makeup - not so much that you look like Tammy Fay but enough to highlight
7 Have a really good look at your wardrobe ~ ditch the things that need to be ditched
The short answer to the original question: what makes a woman over 40 sexy? A woman over 40 makes herself sexy unless she chooses to look like a frump. | |

Sensible shoes - well, some of us wear them because we'd rather not have sore backs or feet, and don't feel that we need to dress like Barbie anymore. Some of us have jobs that require sensible footwear - heels just don't work in a lot of professions.
Salon hairstyles may work for some, but not all. Do you really think that hair looks better bleached, dyed, lacquered and teased, rather than clean and tidy? Does every woman need to spend $50-100 every couple of weeks on her hair to keep your attention?
Facial hair? Well, the same goes for men. Get someone you trust to give you an honest opinion of that goatee or scraggly beard. Should you really keep that 5 o'clock shadow? Bristlely faces aren't a pleasure to behold (well trimmed moustaches and beards aside - men only) on men or women.
Same goes for make-up. Not every woman wants to put on paint every day. I'm sure there are a number of men who could be improved with a touch of blush and concealer... :-) | |

Most of the women over forty that I know have a sense of assurance about themselves and it wouldn't matter if they were wearing a plastic bag, make up or "plucking" facial hair. They'd just be dang sexy because of they way they carry themselves - attitude - smiles that are genuine, etc. Frankly, you could turn it around on some sexy or not so sexy men.
The women that you refer to are the ones who haven't developed that sweet sense of confidence and knowing themselves. It is a shame - I tend to agree with some of your assessment however I'll say:
It's not the shoes or the clothes but the way you walk in or wear them.
It's not makeup or size that makes you attractive it is your spirit.
You probably don't know about the "new" polyester. ha ha | |

Many men also lie about their age on here, believing that they'll somehow make themeselves more attractive to younger women.
But once you meet, the jig is up, and now you have a black mark against you to start things off. Not a good way to start a potential relationship in my opinion. | |

Leastwise that is what makes a Mature woman over 40 sexy. That fact that Menopause is right around the corner has it's perks too.

Most things roll off like rain off a duck's back, it's not that we don't care..we just know what we care about, women and men. And with life experience we relax more, laugh more, and realize that in perspective, there are only a select few things that really matter and have value. Once anyone has a handle on that, young or old...so much more intuned. | |
