In my high school TV production class my project was a documentary about how to make rent money selling a pound of weed split up into ounce bags. That was back before I quit smoking. I smoked a joint on set and everything. I got an A.

70's were different.

I've read several times that George Washington grew his own weed. There was a law established (around that time?) that every citizen was supposed to grow 5 or more marijuana plants. In his diary, Washington once wrote that he had waited too long to separate his male plants from the female ones. (a female plant with unfertilized flowers is apparently more potent in the drug, THC).

Today "the father of our country" would be a felon, and probably in jail. He would be contributing to the wonderful statistic that we in the U.S. have a higher percentage of our population in jail than any other country. (or so I've read) I'm just tired of paying for the war on weed with my taxes.

The documented reason why the government made weed illegal around the time of the depression was to discourage immigration of Mexicans and thus preserve more jobs for U.S. citizens. Now the same government seems fairly unconcerned about illegal Mexican immigration, to the point of often justifying it publicly due to our need for manual workers who will do jobs that U.S. citizens avoid.

The prohibition on alcohol was reversed because it did more damage than good, and created a huge problem of increased crime, violence, and gang activity. How has the prohibition of weed proved to be so much more desirable? Instead of providing taxable revenue like alcohol, weed is supporting crime, violence, gang activity, and overcrowding of jails.

I have also heard the point made earlier that the biggest reason why it is not legal is that the paper industry (& others that use wood fiber) would be hit hard by introducing an inexpensive alternative such as hemp fiber. I have never heard anyone argue that weed is as incapacitating, dangerous, or damaging as alcohol. Many say that alcohol is stronger, more incapacitating, dangerous, and damaging than any other drug. I wouldn't know about that, but alcohol scares me, and I've seen alcoholism totally destroy people's lives and oten kill them. But why is it that alcohol is legal, again?

It depends on who is afraid they won't be re-elected unless they vote a certain way, which they decide based on public opinion. As long as the majority of voters favor existing laws, pot remains illegal.

Right. Maybe if Jesus had changed some tobacco into weed, instead of alegedly changing water to wine, the "moral" majority in our country would feel differently.

Did Jesus use hemp for anything other than clothing?
I have spoken to people who find all sorts of references to it.

Used to use it when I was a kid.... turned 25 and decided it was dumb... makes it hard to concentrate.

I guess we should make it legal because it's stupid to keep it illegal when so many people are doing it and it's a waste of precious resources to arrest and prosecute people who are doing it just to protect the alcohol and tobacco industries from competition... BUT, I'll never do it again... It's a waste of time.

yes

It is bigot having free access to booze but smoking weed makes you a criminal.
This drug is less dangerous than booze, relaxes you and you are sweet and calm and not aggrivated and braindeath as people act when the are pissed.
In Holland the consuming is free and you can get in coffee shops. Teh criminal rate decreased and the heavy drugs had been pushed back as well.

Why shouldn't it be legal?

If it can grow naturally in the wild, like a million other plants, flowers, and trees, then why should it be illegal?

I don't feel that other drugs, such as cocaine, heroin, LSD, hashish, or crack should ever be legalized. These are drugs that are manufactured and there is almost no way to monitor how pure or how safe these drugs are.

But pot? If God makes it grow, then we should be able to smoke it as often as we want. I will also endorse mushrooms for the same reasons.

However, it should fall under the same guidelines as alcohol, in that anyone found driving under the influence should be punished accordingly.

Thank you.

igotoosu, LMAO - Yup, probably so!

guitarman - What are the actual rules there? When DO you get in trouble? In England (and much of Europe ... ??) I was told you could grow 49 plants legally as long as you didn't sell it. I don't know how many ounces you could legally possess.

Ive smoked herb every day since 1979......

I lived in Holland for 8 years where you can buy over the counter...strangely, the fabric of society hasnt broken down there....Im still working a technical job in telecoms arena...ie...cisco networking...

When they can figure out a way of taxing it...they will legalise...

btw..the 49 plant thing i saw on earlier post.....

There was a case in Holland for some guy who grew 50 plants.....
The judge said that there was no need for somebody to grow 50 plants...the ever
thoughtful dutch public realised that it meant that they could grow 49....haha...true...

That is so true !! If they could tax it they would probably legalizes it. But here the the next question. If it was legalized , how much would it be? Probably overpriced, right! So in turn everyone would just grow it. It would be a lot cheaper. So that brings you back to sqaure one, the government wouldn't make enough. So it would be to much of a hassel to legalize it.
Just be glad we still have

yes the weed should be legal and so should freedom but we`ll probably not see either one actually legal anytime soon i read a good book called The Emporer Wears No Clothes this book reveals how many corporations will lose control of certain industries - almost everything is now taken over by China,so what`s the worries? except oil-and China is working on controlling and using most of the worlds supply of oil-LOL

We should make tobacco illegal, but turn a blind eye toward it. The drug dealers can all sell cigarettes to everyone, instead of more dangerous elements, because they would make the same, maybe more profit, with less risk. And our drug problems go down.

Very interesting concept.You're probably right.

legalize all drugs, have mandatted rehab to buy the hard ones, tax teh hell out of them and make enough money to fix Bush's deficit problem, and give our soldiers the armor they need.

Like nate dog says "smoke weed everyday"
