| Weighty Issue Posted: 1/27/2012 9:56:15 AM | He: I would be dating her BECAUSE shes a 5'2" size 8 with a nice figure, not because she weighed a particular weight
She: LOL!! Fail..
He: Funny that you noticed that but completely missed the bit where I also said a 12 stone person with a decent figure would be more appealing than a size 8 with a spare tyre Reading what you want into something rather than whats actually implied is by far the more epic fail
She: yeah but my reading/intepretation of your fail was funnier even if it was more epic..
I don't understand this exchange at all...Could someone please explain the subtext...
|
| Weighty Issue Posted: 1/27/2012 10:00:52 AM | No subtext at all.. seemed to make sense at the time.
All of us can list our preferences to til the end of time but IMO it's so personal it's hardly worth the question being asked. So many different opinons when the only one that matters is the person you may be interested in..

| Weighty Issue Posted: 1/27/2012 11:00:51 AM | To the poster who reckons that size 14 is a 36 inch bust.............36 is just the back size that makes the difference. A 36A would fit into smaller than 14.................................a 36GG.......well I couldn't possibly comment. A lot of ladies , like myself , are 'top heavy'....where do we fit in ?
| |
|
| Weighty Issue Posted: 1/27/2012 12:33:59 PM | I did say "about". According to BS3666, size 14 is for bust sizes from 90cm (35.4") to 94cm (37.0") and/or hip sizes from 95cm (37.4") to 99cm (39.0"). Cup size (which varies from one country to another anyway) is not mentioned, and manufacturers rarely stick to one standard even if it were.
It's a rubbish system, which was kind of my point.

| Weighty Issue Posted: 1/27/2012 3:00:35 PM | | Well OP it certainly figures in my decisions. Nothing is more likely to put me off someone than . . . . more bulk than I feel comfortable with. | |

| Weighty Issue Posted: 1/28/2012 12:05:05 AM | | cinderfreakinrella this is totally for me im cheesed off with myself and am trying to get fit and healthy its about health not skinniness Christina Hendricks is and always will be my role model that woman rocks :-) I would like to one day when im fitter do the great north run, im already up to 20 full minutes running on the treadmill with an incline now bearing in mind not done running for years after 2 weeks I consider that a feat and will continue to build it from there, dont give a monkeys what others think this is all for me, yes I get down sometimes dont we all but the difference now is instead of hitting the pizza shop or biscuit tin i go for a walk or hit the gym have finally conquered my food demons I'm on a road to well being and self discovery and im loving every minute | |

| Weighty Issue Posted: 1/28/2012 12:08:04 AM | | nicolaseven i was only curious how others saw it at 35 I am more than well aware and well rounded and mature enough to realise that everybody has a preference like some like chocolate over say chips its about choice it was a random question like say in a week or so i might ask has anybody ever driven a mini before im very random like that no malice or nastiness meant and i certainly wasnt digging for compliments or to be put down lol just felt like asking total strangers as you get better honest answers to questions is all and love a good debate when it gets going he he | |

| Weighty Issue Posted: 1/28/2012 12:50:48 AM | | As long as you are proportion right then it wouldnt matter if you are skinny,fat,tall,short..etc..... | |
|
| Weighty Issue Posted: 1/28/2012 2:20:21 AM | I applaud you OP for saying this is all about you, but why ask the question? I exercise for me as well, not anyone else and people might disagree, but some are emotional eaters. If you reach for the biscuit tin when you are low it's about breaking that habit and addressing whatever you need to that makes you feel like that. You can pound away on the treadmill for hours and well done to you for doing that but if you use food for comfort when you feel low, if you don't work out why and try and change that there will always be that temptation.
We can debate it all till the cows come home, whether someone small who is a size 14 is overweight or looks good/doesn't look good. Personally I've always seen the number 14 as this magical figure where people go arrgh, outsize anything above this. Probably because for years clothes shops stocked up to a 14 and that was it.
I don't look at curvy women in the media as being poster girls for anyone. If my shape appeals to people fine and if it doesn't also fine. There are so many people out there with different preferences it really makes no odds.

That is the best reason, and my guess is you will be successful because of it. GoodLuck.

| Weighty Issue Posted: 1/28/2012 5:26:56 AM | I weighed myself last week for the first time in years. I'd never been too fussed about what the scales said apart from on the odd occassion when I've lost a lot of weight without trying.
At 17 I was 9 stone and then ended up averaging 9 1/2 for so long that I didn't need scales.
I was a 34 size A cup (only wore bra's for decency - there was nothing needing support) - size 10 in tops (broad back) and 10/12 in trousers - waste of time trying to buy fitted dresses.
By 45, my weight started creeping up and then settled at 10 1/2 stone but whooooopee, I had a little bit of a bust Definite 12/14 for trousers and 12/14 for tops - happy me.
Recently I felt my trousers a bit (quite) tight and someone at work had scales. I thought I'd probably put on an extra couple of pounds - shock horror - am up to 11 1/2 stone. Can't blame the clothes manufacturers this time.
BUT it's not 'how much' I weigh that bothers me, it's the fact that I don't want to have to change everything in my wardrobe again - I like the clothes I have plus I HATE clothes shopping.
Realistically I need to lose a few pounds. NOT so the scales read better, NOT because I think I will appeal more to men, NOT because friends/family think I should..... it's so I don't have to go clothes shopping (ok I won't complain if I lose the extra chin - camera's are so cruel)

As a lady who has and probably will always battle with her weight but is kicking b**t at the gym and shifting it I wonder how much does weight figure in a persons decision to pick a mate is it really that important or not?
I don't really have a problem with women and weight .If I like a girl I like her .Some bigger women are very attractive and some skinnier women are very not attractive . It's just up to the person and what they like .For example I would not say you are fat.It is good to be healthy and it is well known that lack of exercise is not good for anyone so I would encourage that .
|
| Weighty Issue Posted: 1/28/2012 5:53:34 AM | personally ive always been more attracted to the fuller figured woman. just a preference ive been born with, hard wired into my brain. They just seem more feminine and sexy to my eyes, and for other guys who dont understand it or ridicule me for it i tell them that if they want a pretty face on top of a 14 year old boys body then they should go to thailand and get themselves a real ladyboy | |
|
| Weighty Issue Posted: 1/28/2012 6:27:07 AM | Being a bigger girl myself i can say all my life i have been judged on my size.
I lost weight one summer and got down to a size 12 and i got more attention....yet when we moved house and parents got a cafe and food was so available i put all the weight back on and more and i have been yo yoing with my weight since late 2003 now....going from size 14 right up to a size 22.
I like to think im prettyish and have a good sense of humour but apparently cos im a bigger girl men dont seem to want to see past that to find that i am a nice person.
I dont judge on a guy who is large, i am hardley one to be able to judge....i'll message him if i find him attractive and enjoy reading his profile....but being bigger myself i could never date the skinnier guy who wear skinny jeans as that would make me feel uncomfortable and i dont find skinny guys attractive anyway.
2012 is a new year tho with a new me, im no longer loosing weight so i'l be found more attractive, im doing this to get healthier and fitter as i have alot of travelling this year and i want to feel and look my best for me, so when im in london i dont get out of puff running for that last tube....i want to look good for me so i can wear the clothes i like the most, not be limited to the same jeans and tshirts that i have been for a while now, doing it for me.
If i find a guy in that time who likes me as i am and i like him too then thats cool, but i have always said to myself that if all these guys dont want me now, then they'll never deserve me. No rush, i'd rather spend time on me then on a guy unless he's worth it

| Weighty Issue Posted: 1/28/2012 6:35:58 AM | @msg 43
It seems a bit odd that you seem to dislike the fact that (some) men can't see past your size to see the person within.... and then you go on to say that you do the same thing with skinny blokes.
Or have I misread what you were saying?
****
In prefer a girl who is comfortable with herself
I tend to be drawn to girls of a similar size - I wouldn't take a guess at their weight though. But I have gone for girls well outside that range before... all depends on how they come across.

......i dont find skinny guys attractive anyway....
Just because you don't like their lack of flesh?
Fair comment.......so why say this:
apparently cos im a bigger girl men dont seem to want to see past that to find that i am a nice person.
You claim that men judge you purely on your size whilst admitting to doing exactly the same.

| Weighty Issue Posted: 1/28/2012 7:01:27 AM | | I know that she's too big if I have to roll her in flour and look for the damp spot | |
|
| Weighty Issue Posted: 1/28/2012 7:25:41 AM | One thing I have found is that most men haven't got a clue when it comes to size. I wonder what they think the average size for a female is?
I guess everyone has preferences. Like message 43 I have had weight issues and at one point got down to a size 12-14 but I was miserable I was barely eating and became a totally calorie bore and was exercising up to 2 hours a day. It was impossible to maintain.
I went through a tough time a few years ago (ex was an alcoholic and it was a particularly miserable time in my life) and I piled weight back on. I decided I was going to do something about it and have adopted a healthier lifestyle, exercising more and eating much more healthily, but not depriving myself of food like I did before. I have already lost half a stone and plan to set half stone targets along the way. I am doing this for me because I don't want to get to 50 and be as fat as I am now and I want to be able to shop fopr clothes without being made to feel like a freak.
That said, even larger, I am happy an confident in myself and who I am at this point in my life. I am much more secure than I was when I was a smaller size.
I have been rejected because of my size, there is no doubt about that, some guys have even been up front about it, which is their choice and tbh they would probably be someone I wouldn't be interested in if they don't want to chat to someone or get to know people and reject people on something that is just physcial - but I guess we all have our none negotiables :-)
However, I do feel that women are judged much more harshly on weight and size and appearance than men are - although I think that may well be catching up in our current media obsessed, air-brushing, 'search for perfection', 'plastic surgery', culture.
|
| Weighty Issue Posted: 1/28/2012 7:34:02 AM | Just because size 16 is now average for women in the UK, it doesn't mean that it's right or should be that
fast food and drinking pints of lager probably help

That is your opinion and you are entitled to it but this response doesn't surprise me, however it is worth remembering that many female film stars from the 50s were today's average - and many of them looked fantastic on it! In fact they looked gorgeous!
There has been a trend for slimmer and slimmer women in the media, this started in the 60s with stick thin models like Twiggy and many women reckon that dress sizes of celebs are not reported accurately anyway, which is where this change has come from.
Women are made to be fleshier than men owing to their role in child bearing.
|
| Weighty Issue Posted: 1/28/2012 8:12:36 AM | Oh b*llocks I just wrote a really good reply and lost it.
OP if you want to lose weight for health reasons and FOR YOU then that's the best reason I can think of.

rubbish, I see the 'size 16 average' used many times by bigger girls, it's to do with modern diet
