Alcohol might knock you out but it won't give you a decent quality of sleep, so if you suffer from insomnia, try and leave it out.

Exactly. If anything it gives you sleep depravation, as you do not sleep long after drinking alcohol. Alcohol dehydrates your body which leads to sleep that becomes increasingly shallow after those first couple of hours. So, you may find yourself awake again in a couple of hours, and it can lead to more sleep deprivation.

I was down there in November, my parents have retired there. I went for a walk with my girl friend down the beach near La Zenior hotel? Went in a sports bar for a drink, coke I might add, the guy serving was really friendly, said it played all the premiership matches. Looked like a great place.

Then you go on a date and many women expect the guy to do the running, pay for everything etc. Well no wonder after forking out all evening he expects you to be his desert.

I was referring to this quote on the "getting a bit fed up now" thread. During your rant about having to pay for women on dates....

Eh, you want to go to spoons for a 2 quid pint when you could be hiding in Kirks suitcase?

What's wrong with you?

What Kirk hasn't got a case big enough for me? Certainly not the luggage allowance!

I wouldnt, Id need to lose 2 stones to shrink my bahookie and fit in my collection of Motherwell tops.

But the thought of that jd with a splash of coke might just get me skinny.

Or get a reinforced suitcase.

Yeah it's that sort of price with RA from bournemouth....bargain. I refuse to pay the ridiculous luggage charge though, i've had to in the past cos the GF wanted to take enough feckin clobber to last a month when we were only going for a long weekend

I was brought up with wine on the table at meal times, as kids we had a glass but it was watered down. My parents are Italian and the only time i saw drink was with a meal. My introduction to a pub was by my ex hubby,it never appealed to me, nor did getting smashed, which others revelled in...you wern't having FUN if you wern't off your face. Being sick, or having a hang over was not appealing to me. The bars in Italy when i was young were used by old men, you didn't see any women their, unless they came in for an ice cream for their kids or relatives on a walk about. The culture and history is totally different in the UK and if you look back, alcohol was quite freely given to kids here, especially gin, so i cant understand why they think its a problem now, when it has always been a problem here.

It's all about education and attitudes, but even if we got it right now, it would take a generation before it started to correct itself

I'd say that there was definitely an alcohol problem, we are starting to see it in here sometimes I think, judging by the sudden outbursts and the following around that goes in in these threads.

I reckon there are more functional alcoholics than people realise. I just found a quiz, there are 20 very interesting questions (imo) - if anybody cares to have a butchess just google the following..... Alcohol Abuse Screening Quiz How Does Your Drinking Compare?

As far as my experience goes the off couple of drinks or even a bing occasionally doesn't go amiss. Its when you have to have a drink to do something.
Come home from work and have to have a drink to unwind.
Have to have a couple to get dutch courage and free up.
Ive often been critisised for being able to have a great night out without banging shots down my throat at double the price for a shot compared with the price of a litre of petrol.

Sadly enough most of the people I have met who are in some financial trouble are heavy drinkers. And that is self perpetuating. They get in trouble and drink to drown their sorrows.

I find this a very difficult subject to discuss properly. In my youth I use to drink loads and playing rugby every week meant a big session after the game. Fortunately never had a dependency.

When I was married both of us would have the odd glass of wine or bottle of beer maybe about 4 nights a week.

Nowadays living on my own, I play a lot of poker online - so it would be detrimental to drink and cloud my judgement - so I can go a long time without alcohol - but I do like having a drink when outside in a pub rather than in the house.

However this leaves me short of practice for big occasions like going abroad to watch Scotland playing football - which means going from hardly drinking to 3 days of binge drinking over 15 drinks each day. The alcoholic effect varies between countries. Came back from Holland with the shakes yet Czech Republic where there are less chemicals in beer no hangovers at all. Anyways - off to Slovenia next for a great big pi ss up - whoohoo.

I'm just waiting for Kirk to tell us what the 3 euro pink fizz tastes like.

Or has he run for the hills at the thought of half the forum trying to squeeze into his hand luggage.

I'm a Smoker and when the Smoking Ban came in then i stopped drinking alcohol altogether. I don't miss it or Pubs at all and found both easy to give up.
