Just what single people need: more barriers and hurdles to overcome in order to get to a 20 minute initial coffee meet. I wish I had a time machine to go back a couple of decades when the main source of contact was either by phone (not cell phones-a real phone) or in person. But now, every time some company comes up with a new way of electronically communicating to people, everyone jumps to add it to their list of barriers to prevent actual human contact and remain in their electronic prison.
Spot on, maleman!
I've never bothered to get a webcam. I only date locals, so I don't give a hoot about long-distance issues. For the people that are trying to reduce surprises before they meet, I don't really see what the big deal is - whether being unpleasantly surprised on webcam or in person? I figure its not going to ruin my life to drink one cup of coffee with a liar, so I guess I'd rather find out in person than give anybody webcam footage of myself. I guess I value my privacy more than I fear the horrors of being disappointed IRL.

| hatred of webcam Posted: 2/27/2012 11:52:43 AM | i hate webcams as well 80% of the time when a guy has said lets chat on cam you dont see thier face usually what appears is a overly bushy ball sack an half raised wrinkled penis..an Jesus it's worse with the much older men dont nobody want to see that..
the only time i have found webcams an im chat to be fun is when the guy thinks he's really putting on a solo jackoff show an dirty chat with me but in reality ive moved out of the chair an let a gay male friend take over talking to him while we both crack up laughing..
hey if your bold an so c ocky enough to put urself out there on a live watch me beat my meat show then why be mad or surprised as to who you may actually be chatting with or who maybe really wathcing you..nobody asked you to do all that that was all you buddy..

hahaha, I love hearing stories like this. I once had my gay friend tuck his dingaling between his legs (pretending he was a girl) and then open his thighs slightly and BOING! - the pervert on the other side of the webcam was grossed out and mortified.
Re: webcams. I don't talk on webcam with strangers (all people on these sites are strangers, yes). What for? It's creepy or if you're so insistent to determine if I'm a "real" girl, you're either a) trolling for a free tittie flash or 2) have major trust issues.

I used to watch men on webcam (no sexual activity mind you,) and though I didn't laugh, I found the sessions to be rather boring.
How boring is it to sit in front of a computer watching another person glare into the webcam? Very boring and unproductive.
I agree...I just use it to make sure the person on the other end is the same as the profile I was interested in. Once I have that knowledge, I never really want or need to face to face with that person again.
It is a great tool to weed out the fake profiles on here.
I only meet locals...but I have not met anyone without a cam session in years, and really dont see it ever happening again. Why take my personal time to meet someone to find out they are fake, when I can do that from the comfort of my own home? Since implementing my policy, I have only met men who physically are exactly as they protrayed themself on thier profile. I may have been let down in other ways after talking with them (6 baby mommas or something) but at least I can say I wasnt tricked into meeting the famous 'iceberg'. lolol...Only took me 1 time meeting a man of 67 who portryed himself on pof as 47 before I learned.

| hatred of webcam Posted: 2/27/2012 4:01:19 PM | | I dont web chat either.. But that's because then I feel like I have to get prepared for the chat. Look cute for the chat. Fix my hair. Put on something cute, earrings and all of that. I dont have time for all that. I might as well be out on a date with them if I gotta do all of that. When I'm at home, I like to lounge around in my pajamas. | |

| hatred of webcam Posted: 2/27/2012 4:12:10 PM | I have used one for many years, even if not that often. It is nice to stay in touch with family and friends, and to see the one you are going to meet, or may live to far to see or not as often as you may want.
If I am in sweats, so be it, and if they are and do not have makeup on, so what? Natural is good and if you can not be natural, you would not end up being viable to often for me. I like those that are comfortable in their own skin, and can do that with or without dressing up, fixing their hair, and putting makeup on.
Skype is a nice tool to have at your finger tips, and using a good quality cam on messenger, can make is quite real and give you great pictures of the one you want to share with.

| hatred of webcam Posted: 2/27/2012 6:45:48 PM | | wow Im surprised so many of you dislike it... I personally enjoy it and think its a great way to see what someone actually looks like and how they behave. Plus you get to show off all your weird stuff ;) | |

| hatred of webcam Posted: 2/27/2012 6:52:03 PM | | @ neck romancer if you mean by "werid stuff" code penis an jack off shows then obviously this is why alot of people hate it.. | |

| hatred of webcam Posted: 2/27/2012 7:47:32 PM | | LOL, I've never actually used a webcam. My Mac had one on it, but the hard drive took a dump and I haven't fixed it yet. So now all I have is my laptop, which doesn't have a cam. | |

| hatred of webcam Posted: 2/28/2012 1:04:08 AM | I find it pretty hilarious that people are saying "i hate webcams i NEVER go on them !.....but i think skype is awesome !" Skype is just webcam with voice chat or is there some difference that i'm not understanding ? you can even do video calls on msn that are basically like skyping.
If I talk to someone and they only have one profile pic up and they refuse to send any other ones then you're damn straight i'm going to require a webcam session *not sexual* before meeting them in person. My profile pics are generally fairly recent...none more than a year old...and i always have newer pics on my cellphone so i'm never one to lie about what i look like. But holy mother of ****ness....the amount of women i've met on here who have very attractive pics on here who i've met in person and been shocked when they walk up and they look like a manatee compared to their pics which i come to be informed that are 3-4 years old has been far too many.

| hatred of webcam Posted: 2/28/2012 3:11:42 AM | | Webcam? What u see is what u get; it's what u don't see-that gets you:} I wouldn't consider meeting anyone who won't do a webcam chat. Actually, I'd much rather-do a webcam chat than talk to some-"disjointed-voice" over the phone. Besides, it reminds me of one of my fav TV shows when I was a youngin'-Startrek. Unless one has- a "Scotty" to beam-them-up if the "date" is a loser or not as advertised; I think it makes all the sense in this[ earth] world. | |
|
| hatred of webcam Posted: 4/14/2012 7:57:23 AM | It is a love hate relationship for me.
I think photos can be a little deceptive in that a not so good looking picture can be daunting but add a confident personality and you get a whole different spin on things and vice versa. So for me going on cam gives me a better look at who I am considering meeting.
The down side for me is that in most cases my face can be seen then im asked to stand up, turn around and I am thinking huh, I have just turned into a piece of meat and am sure they wouldnt ask me to do that face to face.
More on the down side is that when I am to meet someone face to face, a time and date is worked out, I have the chance to dress up and feel good that I am looking my best. Once you have been on Cam I am pressured to use it each time I log on, sometimes I am in my PJ's with no makeup, or just tired after a hard day and I say No, and get sulking or pressure from the guy.

| hatred of webcam Posted: 4/14/2012 8:32:09 AM | | webcams are the reason for dirty chats and excited old men | |
|
| hatred of webcam Posted: 4/14/2012 9:49:58 AM | If i was talking to someone and they REFUSED to skype with me for 5-10 mins before meeting i would cancel. Like people have said before...you get to find out immediately whether or not the person was BS'ing with their pics...i'd rather not waste my time talking to someone who looks one way on their profile pics but ends up being a freakin manatee when i show up...then wonders why i barely talk to them the whole time.
And for everyone saying "i hate using webcam....but i use skype !" it's the SAME THING derrrrrrpppp
|
| hatred of webcam Posted: 4/14/2012 10:11:23 AM | I have used a webcam for many years, and find that it eliminates those that are not real, and helps keep you closer to those at a distance. It is not meant to be used day in and day out, and if the person lives in your local area, you only really need it to make sure that they are who that say they are and then do your meet and greet.
For distance, family, and friends, a webcam can be an awesome tool to add to the computer and/or phone, and I am amazed at how many people will spend hundreds of dollars on a good HD TV, phone, computer, etc., and yet think that a $20 to $50 dollar webcam should be sufficient. No wonder when those people connect with each other, the lack of clarity and specifics that so many strive for in other areas of viewing, are lost and they run in fear and disdain for whom they are viewing and they viewing you.
It seems to me that it is more than worth the money to buy a webcam that is good enough to show you as you really are and that those on the other end would do the same.

| hatred of webcam Posted: 4/14/2012 11:19:58 AM | Some very funny posts, like south park thinking, people lack logic.
Taking one comment that is common.
everytime some man has invited me to see them on webcam all they want to do is is me to watch them have a wank, not interested!!!
So I take this to mean, I really want to meet the wanker face - face, get to know him better, then discover he is really disgusting. If I get real lucky, maybe I'll find out what he's really like after a year of relationship.
This seems so simple to me, guy starts to wank off, click and block, another one bites the dust, no fuss, no muss.

Great idea, but why not go back 400 years and let your parents arrange the meet with a local village girl? I really hated it when they invented automobiles, phones and penicillin; oh my, what is a man to do?

| hatred of webcam Posted: 4/14/2012 1:47:08 PM | I don't think webcams are that great of a tool for weeding people out because I'm one of those that the webcam seems to like. I usually look better on it than in "real life".
What I don't like about them is what most women on dating sites don't like - the not so subtle surprise penis. Mine has not even been installed on this machine.
|
| hatred of webcam Posted: 4/14/2012 2:33:48 PM | | I don't even have a webcam. Back when my profile was open and for dating I would have men invite me to view theirs. It was never to just "chat". meh. I see no reason to have one based on experience. | |
