nothing wrong with a backroudn check before meeting. the net is full of sickos you probably would have never met otherwise if it wasn't for the net.
The problem is performing a background check is weird in itself, it's just not something someone would ever think of doing in a normal society, not in this context anyway. If you're applying for a job, fine, but no, not a date. | |

and even see arrest records, which I have seen a few ladies I have seen around here on :)
A good idea to me. I only met one guy who lied about some things to hide the fact he was mega wealthy ( and family well known) the rest who misrepresented themselves had records of burglary, car theft, drugs, assault, etc...... someone like that is NOT for me.

The point is that we must recognize when a government entity has gone too far, and hopefully not hand over our rights.
It is interesting that there are now employers requesting access to candidates personal facebook accounts, so as to conduct a thorough character reference. I view this as an invasion of privacy, as my personal friendships, inside jokes, personal likes and opinions are not subject to the scrutiny of big brother. No business will dictate my lifestyle or personal conduct ....

With the exception of my first pof meet, every man I have met from here, we web-cammed first, before agreeing to meet one another. I dont advocate swapping personal information before meeting, but if you send me a picture, be prepared to prove it is your picture before I meet you. I am happy to do the same. Anyone can upload any image and I dont do blind dates. If that wasnt 'good enough' for a man and he wanted personal information before we met to check me out, he would have to move on to someone more gullable because I dont give out personal information to strangers. And I would lose any respect I may have had for a man who was willing to hand over his persoanl info to me, just to get me to date him. That is not a safe practice. | |

1. If you dont trust someone enough to just tell you the truth then you should most likely not be meeting even as a friend.
2. If you do know eachother and have a good friendship or otherwise is it really worth bringing up someones past to judge them on their mistakes?
Either way i say its no good and might bring about emoitonal pain on both sides, if its marriage wer'e talking then thats a diffrent story. | |

I think in the US you have a law allowing you to check the register. Here in the UK we don't have that (or maybe we do, recently I remember something happening on that front).
I wouldn't get too hung up on giving out my details to a date. I generally want to bend over backwards to make sure she feels comfortable with me. If that includes giving her all the info she needs to do a background check, that's fine. It's usually men who are the offenders here. Not exclusively but the vast majority are, so I don't have a problem with the asymmetry. | |

Although these ABSURD requests too can be utilized as a filtering tool.
If an individual demanded private information to do a background check, or snapped photos of my license plate to scan the registry, or stalked me on FB....(So that I could earn the privilidge to be graced by their presence ????), I would consider them to be a bit of a sociopath = delete/block. But it would never get that far, because I would decline and they would smugly hold to the false belief that they dodged a scamming psychopathic sex offender or con artist. And they would likely remain alone, while I actually engaged in a few coffee dates (and ended up chopped to bits in a basement freezer, all assets stolen).
Buy a helmet, and do not leave the house.
