pete, let's all regroup and recalibrate after Round One and see who's left standing and who will play whom in Round Two - should be interesting.

Well, knock me down and call me Sally, I can't believe the underdog factor happening. What a surprise in the West.

Before the playoffs started I heard some media guy saying there are no upsets in the West. The Kings finished eighth, and they're a really, really good team. Their goalie had the second best year of any goalie this year complete with 10 shutouts; their defence is as good as anyone's; they have really good forwards who underperformed this year; their special teams play was uneven through the regular season, but they're really disciplined in the playoffs.

Nobody would have been surprised if Chicago had beaten Phoenix, nor if Detroit had beaten Nashville. There's a lot of parity in the West. And next year Edmonton should finally go from potential to actual.

I just hope getting beaten by a good team in the first round doesn't mean a new coach here. Vigneault brings out the best in his players, and even when they were a lousy team their PP and PK ranked in the top ten in the league. He's fair and players get the ice time they earn.

this is what i like about playoffs in pro sports, you can go in as the last seed in the regular season and beat a team that finished the 1st seed in the regular season. You just never know.

Problem with the red wings are they are getting old nashville clearly looked more younger and faster. Red Wings need to start rebuilding by getting younger.

As for my penguins we need to start going out and getting quality defensemen. We have the high power offense but we lack defense in many areas. And fluery needs to get better in the offseason he can't continue to have these up and down games. One game he looks great the next game he looks like a rookie. Either he improves in the off season to stay more consistant or the pens are going to have to go shopping for a new goalie in the near future if he doesn't.

Steel, I think they'll be shopping anyway. Brad Thiessen's looking good in the AHL, but Johnny's getting older and had had injuries and some inconsistencies, so they'll either need to bring up Thiessen and replace him at WBS, or replace Johnny, or maybe both. I think Fleury's still developing confidence - I'm not ready to give up on him yet.

I like Fleury don't get me wrong but there shouldn't be anything he should develop he's been in two stanley cups won one and he's been in this league now long enough plus the exp he has had to not have confidence issues anymore. He's too far long with the past exp he has had to have any of those issues. I can understand if he was in is 2nd or 3rd year in the league, but he isn't. He has the skills to be a great goalie at times but he just doesn't seem to stay consistant enough to be a goalie you can rely on. He reminds me of Kordell Stewert in many ways where you saw signs of greatness and were like wow that was a great play and in other times you were like WTF is he doing? I mean the flyers series was a prime example of that he had 2 soldi games one ok game and 3 horrbile games where it was like you are a stanley cup champ and you are getting scored on with easy saves that you should have made like a rookie. If he doesn't imrpove by next season I doubt you will see him starting in two seasons for the pens.

Goalies are never judged by the saves they make, it's the ones they don't that define them. We've got the best goalie we've ever had in this city and most of the criticism of the team is focused on him. I don't understand it. But I'm pretty sure he's willing to move to a contender. His family still lives in Florida, so in Vancouver he is as far from his family as it's possible to be in the NHL.

The Caps upset over the Bruins takes the Flyers off of the hook of having to face the Rangers (if they beat the Sens) next round! As a Flyers fan, I gotta love that!

I'm hoping Ottawa wins tonight. Alfredsen will probably retire after this run. He's a class act and I'd like to see him go out with a decent playoff run. They were a number one seed often enough and lost, I'd like to see them beat a number one in his last year.

Halftime...you're not the only one hoping Ottawa wins. CBC did a report on CBC and sports station Canadian television ratings during the playoffs....in the dump. No Vancouver along with no Boston, Detroit, Chicago and ...ugh. Most Canadians can't point out Nashville or Phoenix on a map let alone work up much enthusiasm to watch.

Trouble is Ottawa knocking out the Rangers takes away another big hockey city.

As a Montreal fan I never thought I'd say this, but I'm going for the Flyers.

Jeez. You and I agree about nothing AND we're both in Western Canada. Yet we both cheer for the Habs. I guess it's cause we're both old and became fans in the days of the Flying Frenchmen.

I will never, ever cheer for the Flyers. My favourite all time hockey moment was when Larry Robinson body checked Dave Schultz cleanly into the boards. They had to stop the game since he bent the boards while crumpling their enforcer. That was the end of the Broad Street Bullies in that one moment. Dave Schultz got traded to LA and decided he wanted to be a scoring forward after that.

I'm rooting for Ottawa too, first and foremost because they're a Canadian based team, secondly because of Alfredsson.

I highly doubt they can win it all though, way too much of a longshot.

Halftime: ya, it was refreshing when the Flyer goons came up against the Canadians in the 70's and got destroyed. Montreal was fast AND tough. I had just moved to Canada (Montreal) and knew nothing about hockey but got hooked during those glory years. I'd watch hockey in English to improve my language.

I want Ottawa win also; but they cannopt possibly handle Philly....can they?

I would love to see Philly vs St louis.

Heck; I LOVE the way the BLues play, always sharks (no pun), in the slot; sometimes 2, with one circling!!

Philly looks killer though; they have to be the faves.

Don't be surprised if that was just a product of playing a no-defense Penguins squad and them come back to Earth against Jersey (I think they're beating Florida)

Rooting for Flyers & Rangers to meet in the semis.

What? No riots in Vancouver this year? They won 14 fewer playoff games this time around..HA HA
