How do you react when you aren't allowed in a church-sponsored singles event because of your age?Page 3 of 3    (1, 2, 3)

Well, if this is true, the church is discriminating against you on the basis of age and sex...both are illegal and grounds for a lawsuit.

Good luck finding an attorney willing to take that on without being paid up front. This is not job discrimination or housing. It is a religious organization and it was a free event. Even if you successfully sue and win, damages are virtually nil.

I would find a new church and write the pastor and whoever is higher up a complaint letter.

I would raise hell loud and clear

Or would I?

I was a care giver and patient advocate for my wife for over 17 years, Multiple serious illnesses and death could be imminent.

I joined a church sponsored care giver support group because quite frankly I felt I needed support. I was invited not to attend because I was not a church goer. I am an atheist but do not proselytize my atheism.

I quietly stopped going

What kind of church is that? I would never ever go to that church again.

The Catholic church has deep pockets, especially if the Diosese was aware of the discriminatory practices and condoned it...and there are civil rights attorneys who will write a letter/file a suit pro bono, others might do it for the publicity. Free event or no, damage award or no, it is the prinicple of the matter. A call and follow-up letter to the priest and the Diosese is in order.

I still recommend the woman gather a bunch of girlfriends to crash the event...if it is a free public event, then she has every right to attend.
