| Musical guilty pleasures Posted: 6/25/2012 3:46:08 PM | Now, you're all going to be quite envious of me - I work as a presenter at our local on-line radio station and every week I play anything I like from the 50's, 60's or 70's. It's great - and because I'm 'old' I seem to have more to choose from than the younger DJ's. Only songs we can't play are those of Gary Glitter and his Band - and I so loved his music at the time. I s'pose it might be on Youtube.
Anyway, someone mentioned Max Bygraves on the first page and I will be playing 'Tulips from Amsterdam' and 'You Need Hands' next Friday and I'll dedicate them to you lot!!
My own secret playlist is a compilation with Agnetha Faltskog (blond in Abba) and a whole lotta 70's sounds which I listen to when I'm doing the ironing.

| Musical guilty pleasures Posted: 6/26/2012 3:17:15 PM | Not sure if it's a guilty pleasure as such but I like to listen to baroque composers such as Bocherini, Purcel, Vivaldi, Pachalbel and Bach. The dynamics and emotion of this music is on another level.
2 very famous compositions from the era:

| Musical guilty pleasures Posted: 7/13/2012 12:14:02 PM | I just love a bit of Right said Fred!! ...the baldy guys singing deeply dippy, don't talk just just kiss (excellent advice me thinks!) not Bernard Cribbins on about moving a piano lol!!!....now have that bloomin song in my head "Right," said Fred, "Both of us together One on each end and steady as we go." Tried to shift it, couldn't even lift it We was getting nowhere And so we had a cuppa tea and
"Right," said Fred, "Give a shout for Charlie." Up comes Charlie from the floor below. After strainin', heavin' and complainin' We was getting nowhere And so we had a cuppa tea.
HELP!!!!! ME!!! | |

| Musical guilty pleasures Posted: 7/13/2012 1:19:16 PM | Pretty much any music I listen to could probably be considered odd to someone as I have very eclectic tastes from classical right through to the likes of Nirvana.
I do however sadly no all the lyrics to meatloafs bat out of hell, dont worry I wont put them up here.

They aren't guilty pleasures though - but the techno trance remixes of Toccata & Fugue and Canon in d are. I should apologise to Messrs Bach & Pachelbel who are, I suspect, turning in their graves.

| Musical guilty pleasures Posted: 11/19/2012 3:41:08 AM | Pfft! So many possibilities, so much brain-fade.
How about Half Man, Half Biscuit and "Back in the DHSS" and all sorts of other stuff. Scarcely musical but such fine sentiment and sardonic social comment. Such gems such as:
"The Trumpton Riots" "Time Flies By (When You're The Driver of A Train)" "God Gave Us Life" "F uckin' 'Ell It's Fred Titmus" "Sealclubbing" "99% Of Gargoyles Look Like Bob Todd" "I Hate Nerys Hughes (From The Heart)" "I Left My Heart In Papworth General" "All I Want For Christmas Is A Dukla Prague Away Kit"
"The Best Things In Life" "Reasons To Be Miserable (Part 10)" "Rod Hull Is Alive - Why?" "Dickie Davies Eyes" "I Was A Teenage Armchair Honved Fan"
"Carry On Cremating"
"Turned Up Clocked On Laid Off" "Improv Workshop Mimeshow Gobsh ite"
"Dead Men Don't Need Season Tickets" "Tonight Matthew I'm Going To Be With Jesus" "The Song Of Encouragement for the Orme Ascent" "He Who Would Valium Take" "See That My Bike's Kept Clean" "Paintball's Coming Home"
"You're Hard" "Keeping Two Chevrons Apart" "Gubba Look-a-Likes" "Mathematically Safe" "It's Clichéd To Be Cynical At Christmas" "Visitor For Mr. Edmonds"
"Took Problem Chimp To Ideal Home Show" "Blue Badge Abuser" "Totnes Bickering Fair" "On The 'Roids" "Little In The Way Of Sunshine" "Give Us Bubblewrap" "National Sh ite Day"
"Something's Rotten In The Back Of Iceland" "Tommy Walsh's Eco House" "Fix It So She Dreams Of Me" "The Coroner's Footnote" "Rock And Roll Is Full Of Bad Wools"
Some of it is obvious, a lot of it is obscure, baffling and incomprehensible and the sound can hit you in a way that leaves you feeling battered, bruised and numb altogether.
They will have their (small) footnote in cultural history even without the obligatory ten minutes of fame.
