If a parent of either gender makes plans with a friend or date or significant other, and a child has a legitimate crisis, then obviously the plans must change to accomodate the crisis. However, if the child simply acts out in order to garner attention away from the adult friend, or tries to manipulate the parent in any way, then the plans should stand, and the child should learn that their rights stop where the next persons' begin.
Don't get me wrong. When my kids were small, if they were sick or emotionally upset (not just tantrumming), or something was truly a problem then obviously the adult friend would simply have to understand. We would visit at my place instead, or the plans would be postponed to another occasion. But I never allowed my children to feel that they were in charge of my life, and could steer me at their whim.
I am very interested in the man that I'm dating and he has two kids. I would never allow the presence of children to alter my openness to dating anyone, however, the behaviour of those children and how much the parent caters to them could definitely be a deal-breaker. | |

Posted: 6/2/2007 10:42:39 AM | | to be honest i think i'd prefer to date a man with kids, as ive got two young lil girls, and i have found, with my dating experiences, that the men that have children sooo very much make a huge effort to be nice to my babies, and are very attentive to their wants and needs..wheres the men without, just overlooked them and just focused on me... if any man wants to be with me, they are with my kids too, its a big package ill admit, but, a great one at that | |
