However if a girl really wants to give me flowers... A rose bush. So I can plant it. That would be cool. After all, what can I do with a dozen dead ones?

I think it's weird that he made of point of telling you what kind of "gifts" he wants...
is he also registered at Target?

Target? Maybe LOL or Bed Bath and Beyond....
He didn't tell ME he wanted them from me...he was telling me a story about his ex wife...in that he used to buy her flowers and one day he asked her...."why don't you ever get me flowers?" I thought I'd bust a nut laughing at that one...and he just said...."guys like getting flowers." Hence our debate and discussion. Never heard of a guy wanting a flower or bunch of wild flowers....but on a side note....his ex did get him flowers a week later...and he said to her, "well this is nice, but it would have been nicer had you thought of it."
I am NO longer seeing this dude. He was a wacko.

Well there ya go....a manly man who likes his tools...and flowers too. Like I said...I just put this out here to see what others had to say...and I did get a lot of different perspectives. Glad you are a secure guy. What kind of a flower would you like from a woman? Rose, sunflower, pansy, or????????????? Just wondering.

I really want to debate about this stereotype, but I just can't bring myself to imagine a man getting roses and be excited about it, hahaha! I mean in all fairness, a man should be able to appreciate the joy of receiving any gifts just like anyone can.
For me, the only justified occasions for people gifting me flowers are if I am in a hospital, or as decorations for my place. Other than that, I would much rather get a cactus or other miniature plants.

| Giving a guy flowers.... Posted: 7/31/2012 11:44:38 PM | I got a single flower from a woman I had just broken up with once.
It was on my job, and I was mid task.
I dropped what I was doing and made out with her on the spot. Now this was small and a VERY long time ago, but the nature of the sentiment was still profound (otherwise I'd have forgotten it by now).
With so many women who believe that they needn't do anything monetary for a man...the small things mean a great deal to me. Had it not been wrapped, she could have pulled it from her garden and I would've felt the same gratitude.
Never mind that I had no use for a flower. To go get one and get it wrapped and give it to me meant so much more to me than anything else. Despite the years its been, I don't doubt that I would have the same reaction were something so thoughtful done for me without provocation.
I can cook my own steaks.

Does it really matter? It's the thought that counts, isn't it? It's always up to the man to give the flowers, take you out to dinner, hold the doors, etc .. etc. Fine and dandy, chivalry at its' finest! But the small gesture of acknowledging the fact that yes, the man does also deserve a flower ! However "unmanly" it may seem to some of you. Nevertheless, he does deserve it.

| Giving a guy flowers.... Posted: 8/1/2012 4:21:32 AM | | I sent my boyfriend flowers for Valentine's Day. The florist made up a bouquet of white, purple, and orange flowers that was really quite stunning and not at all frilly or feminine. The boyfriend absolutely loved it. He said no one had ever given him flowers before. He took a photo of them as a keepsake and those flowers sat by his computer until long after they had died. He said even then he hated having to throw them away. | |

| Giving a guy flowers.... Posted: 8/1/2012 6:47:57 PM | I remember the first time I got a rose from a girl, I was in my early 20's. I worked at a large aerospace corporation, and we'd sometimes go to the local topless bar for lunch (seriously, they had a nice roast beef lunch). I left and was in the parking lot, and the gal that had stopped by our table and said hi earlier, ran out and handed me a rose. She had gotten roses from someone, and wanted to give me one. I said thank you and left.
By a quirk of fate we met again a couple of weeks later at a bar nowhere near there, and dated for about six months. She lived at home with her mother. Her sister didn't live with them, but also stripped at the club to support her husband and child. The mom was dating one of the bouncers at the club. It was a french-canadian stripper family—LOL.
But it was nice to get a rose from a pretty girl...

| Giving a guy flowers.... Posted: 8/2/2012 12:41:40 AM | NO he's not gay!! It's not weird, gay, or strange to give flowers to a guy. Women seem to think that all the time. The good Lord made flowers for all people, not just women. Flowers are beauty and art, all people have an attraction to some form of beauty and or art. Ever heard that saying, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."?....To think that it's not ok to give a guy flowers, is the same as thinking that a womans place is in the kitchen. The kitchen is for both the man and woman to make food for each other. People who think it's not ok for the woman to give the man flowers, are being sexist, and stereo-typing in a big way. Get your head out of your ass. | |

No I don't think it's weird for a woman to tell a guy what she likes....but to "demand" it and get pissed that he doesn't already "KNOW" what she likes is strange. Reread my other post about what he said to his ex. Interesting.

| Giving a guy flowers.... Posted: 8/2/2012 9:44:52 AM | | Is the only appropriate time to give a guy flowers is at his funeral and on his grave? Why is that an appropriate time to give a guy flowers and not while he's living? Would it be more appropriate to put tools and Nascar stuff on his grave? | |

Do you think it's wierd for a woman to make a point of telling a man what kind of "gifts" she wants?.. Yeah, I do.
It means MUCH MORE to me when someone does something thoughtful because they pay attention while we're together.
For example: My BF has an old polaroid photo of him, his younger brother and his dad. The is the ONLY photo he has of them together. I took the photo while he was at work, scanned it, spent hours retouching it, had prints made and gave him a nice enlargement in a frame.
I'm pretty certain this meant a lot more than flowers would have.
We do little things for each other all the time. The thing is you have to "know" someone before a gift can be meaningful... this is why you should wait until you DO know them.
Asking for something is just tacky.

| Giving a guy flowers.... Posted: 8/2/2012 2:38:25 PM | If they ones my daughter just picked for me, fine. Otherwise it is weird to me. Years ago I had a stalker girl who had flowers delivered to my work every workday for a month. I gave the flowers to my niece and her friends and I ended up dating the flower delivery girl for awhile.
I do like having flowers planted in my yard, though.

| Giving a guy flowers.... Posted: 8/2/2012 5:33:24 PM | | I used to date a woman that would always have a single stem rose with her whenever I told her stop by my place for dinner. I'd open the door and she had a flirtatious look before giving the rose to me, so I thought it was sexy. Though, I think it would be weird if I received a flower bouquet. | |
