| No Soul? Posted: 8/3/2005 6:58:12 PM | | I am sorry but how do YOU know if animals have a spirit or not....and furthermore, why do you bellow that people here are "so stupid" ... if you are so Christian or whatever you profess to be,why are you calling people names? | |

| No Soul? Posted: 8/3/2005 7:12:07 PM | | WOW! Thanks for that enlightening comment. I never considered I might be stupid. I've always given folks the right to think their own thoughts and debate their opinions. But thanks, I obviously have to reconsider my own intelligence here. I must be stupid, just like you say. You're right. God must have given you the divine right to judge me. Whew... just when I thought I had free will.... | |

Because that's what Jesus would do.

| No Soul? Posted: 8/3/2005 7:54:11 PM | | wwjd? he would call me stupid, i guess. really? i think thumpers should 'read' the good book and 'think' about the message in it. personally i don't take it all literally, but i think the 10 commandments pretty much sum it up. | |

| No Soul? Posted: 8/14/2005 7:49:01 PM | | Some of us look at it philosophically, to make such a commitement to a belief, any belief, may only serve to close doors to our eventuality. However to have such beliefs is a persons own perogative. We live in a free society and with that comes choices. So to me, I feel that I can learn from you, or anybody else to a degree, I just fear that you may not be learning from others who have differing concepts. I may be wrong. I just take offence to your rhetoric and quickness to damn those non believers. How about seeing others differences and leaving the judgement up to your god as he requested. | |

Which Ten Commandments? The first ten, that God wrote down and Moses smashed in a fit of pique, or the second ten that Moses made up and wrote down himself?

I don't know which version of the Bible you have but Jesus says that Gentiles are dogs and calls people he disagrees with fools.

You must be willing to transcend your senses.
If you can not see, if you can not hear, if you can not taste, smell, or feel, do you not still exist?
You might say, well what is left is still just brain function, but the soul is part of you, and has a direct conection with the mental self.
The soul is the culmination of all three selves, the mind, body, and spirit. (mental, physical, emotional)
To say the soul doesn't exist, is only to say that you don't understand.
|
| No Soul? Posted: 8/14/2005 9:31:13 PM | I don't think people can meaningfully talk about whether or not a "foo" is a real thing or an imaginary one, until they can agree on just what they mean by "foo".
Since most people who claim to believe in a soul can't really define what it is without waving their hands around and talking in circles, and can't agree among themselves on just what it is, this discussion is futile.
|
| No Soul? Posted: 8/14/2005 9:33:33 PM | | Not so fast.... Is it not a possibility that there is no soul? As much as there is a possibility as there being one? | |
|
| No Soul? Posted: 8/14/2005 9:36:13 PM | | I have no problem defining the soul, just read the post above yours. | |
|
| No Soul? Posted: 8/14/2005 9:55:10 PM | The point was that there are just as many definitions of what a soul is in this thread, as there are people who believe they exist.
Since even within this group no two people seem to be able to agree 100% on what exactly the soul is, it is very difficult to have a meaningful discussion as to its existence or nonexistence.
Not saying you are wrong, just that without concensus on definitions it is impossible to effectively argue the point one way or another.

| No Soul? Posted: 8/16/2005 1:37:33 PM | | The soul has been discovered in physics I tell you, it is called a Calabi Yau Shape. Type Calabi Yau Shape Picture in yahoo, and you will see a soul. You will possibly believe I tell the truth. And if you read about them, you will find there are an infinite number of them. It is a 7 dimensional object in theoretical physics. It looks like what a person would picture one to look like, and it can be ripped in half with a black hole(hell). This deletes the memory on it, and thus baptizes a person with fire, that they may be ready for the heavenly kingdom(outerspace). The stars are the angels, and christianity is the true religion. | |

| No Soul? Posted: 8/16/2005 6:27:27 PM | | ^^^I couldn't agree more. | |
|
| No Soul? Posted: 8/17/2005 1:17:48 AM | Umm... If you could provide a link to anyone calling the Calabi Yau Shape a soul I would appreciate it, but that is not what people are calling this in any of the web sites I have visited.
A Calabi Yau shape is simply where the extra 6 dimensions required for string theory are curled up next to our existing three. It is a purely theoretical structure that if proven, then provides strong evidence for string theory, but I could find nothing equating it to a human soul. In fact everything I read seemed to indicate that these are things we walk through and past constantly around us but so small that the slightest motion would circumnavigate it multiple times.
I fail to see how anything described thusly could be imagined to be a soul.
If you have different information on this matter please provide it, but based upon what you have provided so far, I fail to see the logical connection you are making.

I tell you it is the soul.
|
| No Soul? Posted: 8/18/2005 1:20:29 PM | | Hey, hey. Look, I believe you, okay? Just ... put down the gun, all right? We all agree with you. I'm not going to try to take it from you, I just want you to set it down so it doesn't go off by accident or something. Yeah, that's it, right there on the table, that's good. Point it away from me, okay? Just turn it, yeah, good. Okay. | |

| No Soul? Posted: 8/18/2005 1:28:13 PM | | I tell you there is no magic, there is only science, and the metaphysics of God and Awareness. Though I wonder if awareness is metaphysical to angels. I tell you since there is no magic, the soul can be discovered and has. | |
|
| No Soul? Posted: 8/18/2005 6:23:29 PM | honestly.... it looks nothing like how I would imagine a soul to look.
In fact the shape you refer to is purely theoretical and all "pictures" were made using programs like Mathematica. If this shape were proven to be correct then it would go a long way to proving string theory which is still also highly theoretical.
If the scientists are not calling it a soul and they do not seem to be in any way connected to individuals but rather the world around us all, then why in the blue blazes do you think its a soul?
Besides, I prefer to think of a soul as larger than a few microns at biggest. If souls are that small then I don't think hell or heaven are in any danger of overcrowding .... ever, even if heaven were the size of a shoebox.
Not trying to mock your faith or anything but you can't rightly go around claiming theoretical scientific things that have nothing to do with souls prove that souls exist. Its sheer lunacy.

Being an Agnostic priest I have developed my own understanding of souls and spirits and such.
How are you a priest and agnostic? Would you mind explaining how that works?
