| | Miracles DO Happen!Page 2 of 4 (1, 2, 3, 4) | I am so happy this story had a happy ending. I have children and grandchildren. None of us wants bad things to happen to children or anyone for that matter.
BUT, if her recovery was a "miracle", what would it have been called if she hadn't recovered?

I know He does! I know too- he/she has all but smacked me in the face, kissed me, etc. For some, they have to EXPERIENCE it to understand...and HE has such a great sense of humor too!

| Miracles DO Happen! Posted: 6/20/2012 12:54:47 PM | ^^^^ I'm glad you have that comfort of knowing God. I do wish others also had that comfort, maybe one day they will.
One brave day I might start a thread on miracles starting with one of my own :)
|
| Miracles DO Happen! Posted: 6/20/2012 1:29:06 PM | ^^^Why not start now? To me life is nothing short of one miracle after the next. My perception of God may be different from another or a more religious person however it's all the same in the end. Just observing flowers bloom in the garden to me is a miracle of beauty so I'm pretty easy that way, lol.
A beautiful song catching me, commanding me to stop whatever I am doing, totally consuming me is pure magic too.
|
| Miracles DO Happen! Posted: 6/20/2012 1:56:47 PM | | The only thing that matters tot he parents is how they perceive their childs wakening. I would consider it an answer to a prayer and others may not. | |

| Miracles DO Happen! Posted: 6/20/2012 3:00:08 PM | call it what you want. i have no problem linking spiritual paradigms with science.
if a scientist/a atheist, just say it was against the odds.
point is, needing another week, she would be dead. music is for another part of the brain. with my lymes, i sometimes have difficulty walking when tired. in those moments, i now pretend i am dancing and i then look like i'm walking. got the idea when i thought about those who cannot speak, but can sing.

| Miracles DO Happen! Posted: 6/20/2012 5:01:06 PM | Miracle: an effect or extraordinary event in the physical world that surpasses all known human or natural powers and is ascribed to a supernatural cause.
There is nothing about the fact that some come out of comas, even ones doctors have decided are not coming around, that is extraordinary, it happens all the time. Doctors are trained medical personal, they aren't wizards or gods, sometimes they don't know the answers.
This whole thing is ridiculous and the panty twisting is pretty silly, one would think such behaviors would embarrass an adult. Why we couldn't just have a nice thread with being happy for this family, without theists demanding a good outcome has to be a miracle and make the whole thing a religious shout out. Geez, it's not about you, it's about this lucky family who has their child back.
To poster below, are you seriously assuming that I have no good vibes in my life? You couldn't be more wrong, but if your judgments make your day, have at it. LOL

Like any miracle it spreads good vibes in every direction.....even here! Watch out you may catch some!

Nowhere did I think or assume that you were in a deficit of good vibes. You're not feeling me here dayna lol! The more good vibes the merrier! Have a fabulous week, year lifetime, the whole enchilada!

| Miracles DO Happen! Posted: 6/20/2012 7:25:45 PM | That's when a miracle happened Let me fix that for you. That's when she woke up, no miracle, just came out of a comma, nothing new or different
LOL!! Notice it is mostly the women who believe that a "beautiful miracle" has happened ... while the men thinks *Pfffff!!* ... it's nothing but life happening. Whether the girl woke up or not ... the earth will keep on spinning, the sun will keep shining and the universe continues to expand. Everyone dies. It's just a question of when. Even the universe will end in a few hundred billion years. So this "miracle" isn't even a blip in cosmic order of things.
But women (in general) loves to attach emotional meaning to anything and everything.
It is so sad how people are so narrow minded and disrespectful. They will make up any excuse they can to say miracles don't happen and God does not exist. I know He does! It's REALLY sad that religious nuts and "miracles" believers see themselves to be the only ones with "respectful open minds" ... while anyone who doesn't agree with them is cast as "narrow-minded". Maybe what miracle-believers really have is "a-hole-in-the-head".
Your belief that God exist is no more valid than my belief he doesn't.
|
| Miracles DO Happen! Posted: 6/20/2012 8:05:37 PM | I read that this girl has suffered permanent damage to her vision and memory and will require lifelong medical care.
The only miracle will be if Doctor Patel doesn't lose his medical license for almost pulling the plug on her.
|
| Miracles DO Happen! Posted: 6/21/2012 4:10:17 AM | I think we should all pray for Dr. Patel.... or for each other...... or for a thread that just doesn't turn to shit because folks feel a need to ridicule someone else's belief system... or...........maybe just go for a walk and save the prayers for bigger stuff or ...don't pray and go for a walk or don't walk.....RUN..... or just space out. :) Yeah, me needs some coffee. ...and.........probably a miracle. | |

Charlotte, 7, had suffered a brain hemorrhage only days before... /snip/ Charlotte has been left with some blindness and memory loss... Sounds like a strange miracle to me... Couldn't she have been fixed up better than before, like with superhuman powers or something?
Or better yet, just not have had the brain hemorrhage... mmm... wait a minute! Lot's of 7 year olds don't have brain hemorrhages! It's a miracle!

| Miracles DO Happen! Posted: 6/21/2012 5:17:14 AM | While Im happy for any family who regains a loved one under such circumstamces, I dont believe in miracles.
If I believed this 1 child was saved by some God, then Id have to believe that all of the innocent children who are brutalized everyday some how deserve it...as they were not worthy to be 'saved' by god?
Music is a very powerfull tool and I think the music played a larger role than any god did.
I guess this makes me bitter and narrow minded as well to some people. Im totally fine with that.
|
| Miracles DO Happen! Posted: 6/21/2012 6:15:11 AM | As a mother I can't imagine enduring what this mother did in the moments before her daughter awoken. She was in bed with her, cuddling her for quite possibly the last time. Losing her. Saying goodbye.
The fact her daughter "came back" right then and there... is a miracle. *wipes a tear*
fwak all you naysayers/debbydowners! **pulls out a sword**
|
| Miracles DO Happen! Posted: 6/21/2012 6:47:22 AM | I just thought it was a great story! Or is it a God debate?? hmmm.....still, music is pretty powerful stuff and I think it's pretty fantastic that somewhere in that little girl's brain, she responded to the music.....just as my patient's memory of it and ability to sing when she couldn't speak was a surprise. An "extraordinary event" There's no way of knowing why she suddenly woke up. Could be the music. Could be something else, just a coincidence. Where we are now, in our knowledge, verifiable knowledge, we cannot say but only speculate why she woke up at that time. It's a nice story if you choose to believe it was the music, otherwise it is just a coincidence.
If I believed this 1 child was saved by some God, then Id have to believe that all of the innocent children who are brutalized everyday some how deserve it...as they were not worthy to be 'saved' by god? I agree with this. It doesn't make sense that one child is saved by god/miracle while millions of other are ignored.
But women (in general) loves to attach emotional meaning to anything and everything. Oh, pfft!! This is not a gender issue.
|
| Miracles DO Happen! Posted: 6/21/2012 7:46:43 AM | This is a good story. Uplifting and I am happy for this little girl and her mom. Is the recovery a miracle? Or just a happy occurence?
Here's a "What if"... What if a totally reviled and hated individual were comatose ? Say, someone like a Hitler, Saddam, or anyone universally scorned and recognized as evil. Then, what if this individual had made such a recovery.
Would people label that as a miracle? Or, maybe the work of satan?
|
| Miracles DO Happen! Posted: 6/21/2012 8:34:17 AM | It's funny....(and this is how the threads work sometimes) when I read the OP I had not attached any literal interpretation to the word "miracle". Just read the story and sort of felt my heart "sing." Loved it. Wonderful things happen in life and many of them are mysteries. The same is true for the horrible stuff(ie:if that little bastard Hitler came back). I figured out a long time ago that I don't get to have the answers to all of my questions....and I have plenty. What matters to me more are the stories surrounding why folks believe the way they do.
I tend to give people a LOT of space for their beliefs to be in and don't usually assign any kind of value system to it (unless it blatantly violates another's "space" or "rights", "freedoms" etc.). We all are products of our environment/DNA/experiences etc....and EACH of those things are some pretty fantastic stuff (!) in and of themselves. I've come to appreciate how unique that all is to individuals and am more interested in each "story" surrounding the ideas/lives we've all formed in this world.
I definitely believe in a "higher energy". Energy moves, it lives, it creates. We experience it every day. We ARE it. Whether you believe in evolution, God, a combination of those or simply that this energy is just "chance" and coincidence....there it is. WHO we each show ourselves to be in the process and how we value/respect the experiences of others is where our character shows up. It is where "grace" lives. I can make space for a miracle....not a problem at all. Yeah, had mah coffee. :)

or for a thread that just doesn't turn to shit because folks feel a need to ridicule someone else's belief system...
Exactly, only for both sides, it's not a case of non-miracle believers are wrong and miracle believers are right. But you see, you wish for only your side to be presence while us non-believers should just shut up. Not looking too equal.
Here's a wonderful true life story and yet it has to be filled with some sort of supernatural miracle or it's just shit. Really?

| Miracles DO Happen! Posted: 6/21/2012 11:49:52 AM | But women (in general) loves to attach emotional meaning to anything and everything Oh, pfft!! This is not a gender issue Oh ... Pfff yourself!! I never said it was an issue of any kind. It was an observation of typical female behavior on the forums ... and specifically this thread. But the word "issue" is thrown around so often ... like "miracle" and "hero" (mentioned by another poster) ... that these words have lost their effective meaning.
Hey padawan.........
You wrote: "Your belief that God exist is no more valid than my belief he doesn't."
Actually, both premises are perfectly valid............ What neither one is, is provable, but that is whole other thread.......... Yes, you're right. I was just waiting for someone else to say it.

I don't think any separate entity called god decrees miracles or brutality. It's more of a personal experience of perception.
There's an old adage: You can measure the depth of a man ignorance by the depth of his belief in tragedy.
|
| Miracles DO Happen! Posted: 6/21/2012 12:35:08 PM | You can measure the depth of a man ignorance by the depth of his belief in tragedy. So all the Greek tragedians (Sophocles, Aeschylus, Euripides, etc.), Shakespeare, modern tragedians such as Arthur Miller, philosophers such as Aristotle: all very ignorant people, eh? Interesting. Let's throw them all out the window too, along with logic, reason and science.
It was an observation of typical female behavior on the forums... It was a telling observation that was off base and not even supported by a clear and unbiased reading of the forum posts. You made it a gender issue, not me.

| Miracles DO Happen! Posted: 6/21/2012 12:40:07 PM | | ^^^Relax Lily, haven't you heard the story about the farmers son who break his leg at harvest time and all the neighbors say oh how terrible for you. Then a war breaks out and all able bodied young men are sent off and die except the farmers son with the broken leg and all the neighbor say oh how wonderful for you your son is alive... story goes on and on and on. | |
|
| Miracles DO Happen! Posted: 6/21/2012 1:17:15 PM | OP - I also believe this is a beautiful story. I can certainly see how hearing Adele's song "Rolling in the Deep" could have a positive affect on someone. It is not uncommon for the seriously ill to respond positively to outside stimuli, whether it be music or the presence of therapy dogs, or some other stimuli. My personal feeling is that it is a purely biological response that is possible because of the extreme complexity and utterly amazing human body.
Count me in as one who does not believe in miracles. I am not going to ridicule those who do as long as they respect my beliefs and the beliefs of others who don't agree with them. I may on occasion express my views on the subject, and I am willing to listen to the views of others when I choose to. Those who choose to say things such as "I'll pray for you", or "You don't know what you are missing", or any number of the statements I have heard over the years will open themselves to extensive ridicule. Those who state in their profiles that they are only interested in a Christian man demonstrate clearly the close-mindedness I hope to avoid.
<div class="quote">FemaleConnection - If I believed this 1 child was saved by some God, then Id have to believe that all of the innocent children who are brutalized everyday some how deserve it...as they were not worthy to be 'saved' by god?
This has always been a point of contention with me, as well. If there is a "God", and this god allows all of the tragedy in the world to happen while capable of performing "miracles", it would not be a god I would respect, much less worship. Someone might say there is a purpose for all suffering, but what could possibly be the purpose of thousands of men, women and children dying in an earthquake. What could be the purpose of all the deaths due to vehicle accidents? What could be the purpose of the millions of people who were systematically murdered during the Holocaust?
