Why the hate for Video Games?Page 2 of 7    (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7)
Gamers are simply not ambitious people. Wastes of life.

Well, I think Artists are out of their minds and should be shot on sheer principle. Does that make us even?

I couldn't have done half of what I've done if I'd wasted my life playing video games

And do you know what it ultimately is going to amount to? NOTHING. Like most of us, 99.9% of us, it will amount to strictly and absolutely nothing. When you die, you die, no matter what you accomplish. How many people made history? So stop being so caught up in how great you are and how other people suck. Have a beer and a blunt :-P

So, is it a crime to have fun before dying? Or do you really have to bleed life dry and live un the fast lane until you go pipi in a tube?
Regardless, last I checked, your as single as I am, bro. I wouldnt go around yelling at people I dont know that they are wasting their lives, unless I`d like someone to pop my teeth out with a 2X4...

Kariann71: If it's just a spare time hobby they don't spend a lot of time on, no problem - have fun. I'm cool with that.

That's pretty much were i'm at.

Since I was born in the 80's, I used to be addicted to video games since the NES. Now in my 30's, i'm playing games mostly in moderation. Doesn't mean I will stop playing video games altogether. ^_^

And video games have come a long way to be accepted as a universal form of entertainment as books, movies and music.

I'm an artist, my work has been exhibited all over the country and is in private collections around the world. I just finished my masters degree in history. I couldn't have done half of what I've done if I'd wasted my life playing video games.

I know plenty of Artists. They always make sure to ask me if I want fries with that.

ou only get so many years to do something, to accomplish something real and tangible with your life. I see people sitting for hours in front of the TV or computer gaming, while the life of the real world passes them by.

I work in IT management, and I have a degree. I am very happy with my professional life, and I'm still a gamer. It sounds to me like a girl that played video games must have dumped you in high school or something.

Gamers are simply not ambitious people. Wastes of life.

This is an a$$ backwards completely untrue generalization. What if some of the people who own your "private stock" super elitist artwork are gamers? Hopefully they'll never see this post, or they'll throw it up on Ebay. Or if we're lucky, they'll trade it on Craigslist for an Xbox 360. That's called Poetic Justice.

I list "watching video games" as an interest on my profile. I grew up both playing video games with my brother (in the case of multiplayer games) and watching him play video games (in the case of single-player games). I absolutely loved it and love those memories. I would love to meet a guy who enjoys playing console video games within moderation. Play a couple hours during the week if you'd like, and maybe a few more hours over the weekend. I'd love to watch.

There is no greater waste of time. Time is your life. You only get so many years to do something, to accomplish something real and tangible with your life.

How about sharing your life with somebody? One could very well feel that you're unambitious being stuck in the inertia that is your (loveless) life. It would explain your bleak outlook on life.

I don't hate video games nor the people that play them. BUT I'm not surprised why the people, which is mostly men, are single. Most of them are socially awkward. I was watching an interview at Comic Con, and the interviewer asked general questions about their lives. Like age and where they lived and with whom. Most were over 30, unemployed and lived with their parents. How sexy and attractive is that?? A couple were virgins and were very embarrassed when asked if they ever had girlfriends. All of them said no. These people don't work but have time to go to conventions about fictional characters? Well, I'm sure their parents are proud since they are supporting their lifestyle. These same guys probably have accounts ofn POF wondering why such a nice guy like themselves never get any reply emails from actual women.

Many people, especially the news, are still stuck on the old stereotypes of video gamers. Last major study I saw, the average gamer was about 35 years old, and women made up about 45% of the video gamer population. Video games are much more widespread and mainstream. It's not just Madden, Final Fantasy, Street Fighter and Call of Duty anymore.

Let me tell you real quick a romantic love story. And old friend of mine, incredibly ugly and nerdy (I love the guy, whatever) was on a website for Cosplay about Star Trek for years. Numero uno geek. He found an American lady, rather ugly and more geeky than hhimself. Now married with 5 kids. As far as I know they still lay Final Fantasy....

You can't say stuff like that; it simply isnt true anymore. You'd meet me honey, and you would throw socially akward out the window LOL.
And I am the BIGGEST geek you'll meet, I can quote you the entire Star Wars movie by Heart, and I been playing Skyrim for 500 hours....
Gross generalisations are evil, kid ;-)

Capn,to be honest, from your pictures, you look like you would play video games. Not saying thats a good or bad thing. Like I said, I have no hate for video gamers. What do you mean, I can't say stuff like that? What stuff can't I say? That someone is socially awkward. The people at Comic Con are FRIGHTENING. The interview I saw was recent. It wasn't the big one they do ever year where they promote big movies and such, but a local one. Look at this site for instance and take a stroll over to AAG. I would bet your genitals that all those "nice guys" are video game players. They can't even write a proper email like it's rocket science. So when you're ready to bet your genitals, just let me know. A lot, not all (since you will come back telling me I am generalizing) are awkward mentally and physically. You even said your friend was ugly and nerdy. You proved my point. I'm more worried because your friend has no concept of birth control and creating more unattractive children and the cycle will never end.

I'm a luddite and for me video games will never be on the same level as cinema, theatre or music. I don't care how many copies of Call of Duty 4 sold in the first 24 hours. But I am still partial to an occassional game of Jet Set Willy (in moderation like all good things).

There is no greater waste of time. Time is your life. You only get so many years to do something, to accomplish something real and tangible with your life. I see people sitting for hours in front of the TV or computer gaming, while the life of the real world passes them by. I have too much I need to accomplish in life, to waste it like that. Gamers are simply not ambitious people. Wastes of life.

To be fair to them, I feel the same about people who waste their lives watching television, or going out drinking all the time, or smoking weed, or letting their lives revolve around music or other corporate culture bullshit.

I'm an artist, my work has been exhibited all over the country and is in private collections around the world. I just finished my masters degree in history. I couldn't have done half of what I've done if I'd wasted my life playing video games. I have a 15 year old son. I know gamers who have kids, and every one is a horrid parent because all they want to do is play those damned games, and they ignore the most precious thing they have, their children.

You are not better than gamers. You are not better than anybody who has posted this thread. You spent many years concentrating on your artwork, and I applaud you for that. However that doesn't mean your art is good. In fact, judging by the state of the contemporary art, it wouldn't be out of line to say that that it isn't.

See, I can be a di*k too. Well, not as big a one as you, as I was only half serious. Judging people is fun!

p.s. I don't even play video games (anymore).

Probably because Call of Duty is not the game to be comparing to Cinema, Theatre or Music. :) Call of duty is to Video Games as Slipknot is to heavy metal. It popular, easy to digest, and cranked out in generic lumps for the masses who want to play video games with their "Bros," but don't want to be identified as a "gamer."

Might I recommend titles like Skyrim, Alan Wake, L.A. Noir, or the recently released PS3 game "Journey." All are brilliant mixes of atmosphere, stunning music, and voice acting on par with any half decent hollywood movie. Games like Doom 3, or Amnesia: Dark Descent, and Dead Space 2 I can guarantee you would give you more scares than the best scary movie ever released. :)

Just a recommendation. :)

*Edit* Also wanted to throw in there that the title screen theme for the PC game Civilization 5 won the Grammy for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists at the 2011 Grammy awards. :)

Not trying to prove you "wrong" or anything, just letting you know that if it's Acting, Music and atmosphere you're looking for, Call of Duty isn't a fair representation of Games.

Wow, your REALLY superficial, arent you?
Alright, let's ignore the fact that this guy is actually a great human being. I mean sure, you wouldnt date him, then again judging from your response, I wouldnt be surprised.

Capn,to be honest, from your pictures, you look like you would play video games

This is the last time I address you at all. I used to be VERY in shape. I used to wrestle. My youngest daughter is VERY sick. Life threatenning. On those pictures, I hadnt trained in 2 years. I havent trained in 3 now. My max bench was a little bit less than 300 pounds. If I would have taken off my shirt then, most people would faint.
And If I ever meet you, my slap is the first and only thing you will see.
Go insult someone else, with your opinions.
Your a disgustingly shallow person. You should play videogames, and learn to chill out.

I wonder if you'll consider me socially akward if I tell you to go f*ck yourself. It's probably the only thing I'd reserve for people who think so highly of themselves as to be able to sh*t on other people from up on their pedestals. Before you tell me its because I play games, nah; I'm just that much of an a*hole in real life.

I personally have the attention span of a fruit fly, so I could not concentrate on a game for more than 10 minutes, by which time a 5 year old kid will beat the crap out of me. LOL. So I stick to what I like, cycling, running, doing 100 mile rides, going to the mountains and being outside, where the only technology I got is the GPS to take me back to my car.

I respect this kind of an attitude a lot more. He doesn't like it, but he doesn't call people big fat looser when others do. Your attitude, I have only contempt. Typical princess.

You win dude. You made your points. We should all love video gamer, so go back to your room and continue to play.

But Video Games seem to get this knee-jerk negative reaction immediately, especially from women, before they even know you personally.

You also have a good point here. None of the athletic, physically attractive women that I know play video games. Or.. want to play them.

Good luck!

I don't care if the guy likes them, especially if they are like Wii games that can be done with other people, but video gaming can be as addictive as Facebooking or gambling...when the game gets more important than the girl, then expect her to get a little negative.

Why the hate?

Short answer? If we are talking about how most women react to things that some men do that they don't approve of in terms of behavior?

Some women hate some men who play video games because the video games do not make said women the center of attention for that man.

I would say that's it. IMHO, if a woman is in a relationship with a man, she wants, IMHO, to be the center focus of his time, attention, resources, effort and whatever else.

If she wants to go out with her friends, she's "decompressing" and "needs space", even if you want to hang out with her.

If you want to go out with your friends, and she wants to hang out, then you are "insensitive" and "never make the effort" and "don't understand what this commitment means"

IMHO, there is just a long list of double standards out there where women don't like something until they are doing it themselves, then it's ok. Is this all women? No. Is it sadly many many many many many women? I'd say yes. To my opinion.

If you worked too much, were a workaholic and pushed hard in your career, that can be just as unhealthy an addiction as a hyper focus on video games or something else, but do you see most women saying to men, "No no honey , you work too much, all that extra cash you have rolling in so I can get a new SUV every two years, that's horrible" IMHO, you don't hear that. You hear, "Oh he's so driven! So ambitious! He's a go getter!" Gag. I mean really. Mother f**king gag me with a spoon.

The only answer I have is you can't win. If you stopped playing games as much, odds are most women would bust your balls about something else. In the end, you will always be punished as a man for not being the guy that Oprah promised her that she deserved to get just by showing up. Is this all women? No. Is this a lot of women? My opinion is yes. I do think though there are women out there who are great women, awesome women, really worthwhile women to date. I just don't think they are falling off trees out there.

I agree, moderation is needed in anything in life, but usually IMHO a woman will just nag you because you weren't her first choice. Just my view on it.

Video games are a hobby - no better or worse than photography, yoga, camping, softball, bowling, movies, etc etc. If you enjoy them, find someone else who does as well, or at least respects your choice to play them. There are plenty of gamer girls out there, you just need to know where to look for us.

I've got a large collection of NES and Atari games, so I've met plenty of people for the sole purpose of sharing a 6 pack and reliving some childhood memories with Mario and the like.

I feel your anger. Wow. I don't know where you find these women. I work a lot. Then I want to ride, do my thing with intensity. No moderation, 60, 80, 100 miles.

Some women want to do it. Some don't. Some understand. Some don't. Some want to change you. Some want to join you. You find them all types.

i love video games, the creativity, the art, plot, etc. i havent played my games in a long time because i am still looking for a job. i never understood the negative behavior towards ppl who hate video games i dont stop playing them because they hate it! my sister will be 44 in august and her hubby is a few yrs younger than her they both play video games with their kids even b4 they had kids.

im 26 still playing them. i enjoy playing video games both my bf and i. i wish i had more female friends as video gamers as my old friends never liked video games they liked board games that was it. i knew a girl who hated video games because of past ex bf's were married to their game consoles than spending time with their gf or family then thats a problem - an addiction. i knew ppl who can play video games responsibly not a problem and others cant distinguish reality from fantasy.

my advice is find someone who loves video games just as much as u do, i did and worked for me. i wouldnt put down my video games for anybody if they didnt agree to it i would show them the door if i had too. my sister and her hubby raise their 2 daughters together they dont sit for hours and hours playing video games. he is a navy soldier working 12 hr shifts and she is still looking for a job, but when they have time they play video games. i know ppl who are successful and play games.

ive seen artist who are out of their minds but i do love artists for their creativity, not all artists are out of their minds. so we all cant judge those who have different lifestyles. if u dont like it, move on and find someone who fits ur lifestyle simple as that.

This advice should go with any hobby, yes including video games. It's all what we like. I don't think one hobby is more or less addictive than the other. Just because one requires more/less physical activity doesn't mean a thing.

To me its like a skydiver trying to diss someone that para sails. Or a wrestler dissing a body builder...even a gamer dissing someone that enjoys movies. It's all the same to me. We all have our hobbies they are just individualized versus one size fits all.

I personally like a good video game from time to time. In fact I found my old SNES and was playing old school Super Mario earlier today. But I still don't diss avid gamers, if that's what they want to do more power to them. I don't get why some guys spend $10.000's on trying to make a car go 10 mph faster than it did. Or have a brand new bass boat and live in pretty much a shack. A lot of people out there prioritize different things. Just because its different than what I or you like doesn't make it right or wrong.

blueceleste: i love video games, the creativity, the art, plot, etc. i havent played my games in a long time because i am still looking for a job.

This is pretty much where I am, too. Although, I still haven't stopped playing video games. I always carry my 3DS with me whenever I go out on weekends in case I wait in line, or just simply wanting to take a break from staying home all day. ^_^

blueceleste: i wish i had more female friends as video gamers as my old friends never liked video games they liked board games that was it.

Same here. Although, board games are great to play, too, whether the old-fashioned way or virtually in a video game (Like Mario Party). ^_^

blueceleste: i knew a girl who hated video games because of past ex bf's were married to their game consoles than spending time with their gf or family then thats a problem - an addiction. i knew ppl who can play video games responsibly not a problem and others cant distinguish reality from fantasy.

That's a good point. Too much focus on the games or any specific interest, will really dissolve any relationship with your girl. There definitely needs to be balance.

blueceleste: my advice is find someone who loves video games just as much as u do, i did and worked for me.

Pretty much the path i'm on, but just like sex, I won't focus on 'just' about video games (even though they're definitely a part of my life); I still want to know that person better beyond that. However, for me, it's going to be a long road ahead.

blueceleste: ive seen artist who are out of their minds but i do love artists for their creativity, not all artists are out of their minds. so we all cant judge those who have different lifestyles. if u dont like it, move on and find someone who fits ur lifestyle simple as that.

I haven't touched my X-box in months, but I've never had a problem with women complaining about it. Hell, get Kinect for Xbox and "Dance Central", and chicks will WANT to play.

The only women who WILL complain about it are the ones who want you to be up their ass 24/7, and guess what? I don't need that.
