Many of us sacrificed decades to compromise for our family, occupations, homes, college funds, second homes, braces, special athletic camps, on and on and on, and left in the back ground those things we wanted for us. Once in a different place with the family grown, and vocations affording you many opportunities, we can play catch up and have those things that move us.
^^ Exactly Mr. Deac! OP if you can afford it enjoy it. At this stage of life, why the heck not???? If someone wants to label as mid-life, old geezer syndrome, that's their issue not yours! Enjoy!

| Middle aged man, new Camaro Posted: 6/22/2012 10:49:11 AM | I don't think you have to put so much pre-thought into it, OP.. just drive which ever you feel like driving on that day.
I've had 5 brand new vehicles in my life.. and they're so much fun to drive!! Never did I think "I wonder what other's would think about this?" Granted, the 'fanciest' (or whatever) was 'only' a Grand Prix. Twice. Then there was the fully loaded Suburban... God I loved that truck! (And it saved me from death when I was in that accident that put me in this chair)
Point is.. just enjoy it!!

| Middle aged man, new Camaro Posted: 6/22/2012 12:59:46 PM | Frankly- I don't see how a Camaro would be that loud of a "midlife crisis" scream... now, a Harley, a Ferrari, a Lamborghini, a 'Vette(maybe)-that would constitute more of a "midlife crisis scream",IMO.
Me, I'm a truck/SUV gal, I do have a little Chevy Lumina 4 dr that I use for a lot of my general running( better on gas, a bit easier/more comfortable to drive) and it's a help with logistics/convenience/time management if I happen to have stuff loaded on my 3/4 ton 4x4 truck...
But no, IMO a Camaro is not a "midlife crisis' announcement-nor is a Mustang...a 'Vette might be dancing on the edge of "midlife crisis announcement", a Camaro or Mustang, not so much. Oh, I have my own "completely impractical but I want one" list...I'd love to have a Mini-Cooper. ( Yeah, yeah, probably have to butter my ass in order to get into it, LOL) Cindy O

Shoot buy a car because you like to drive it.
Exactly.
I have yet to see a car sticker that says "This car for those under 30 only."

| Middle aged man, new Camaro Posted: 6/22/2012 3:59:35 PM | When my girlfriend was in ther market for a car I asked her what type she had in mind and she said it didn't matter but 'a yellow one'. She has a favorite yellow Prada handbag and matching shoes . I suppose that's as good a reason as any to buy a particular car....matching accessories. She got a yellow VW and then when we went to Maui this past winter we rented a yellow Mustang.
She had no interest in cars but neither does my sister. My girlfriend and my sister rented a car to drive around Paris and then to our family home in the south. they had the car for a couple days and parked it in a town they stopped in along along the way. They couldn't remember the make or anything when they went to find it. They went up and down the streets hitting the door opener on the key. Later I asked them if the key had as tag on it with the model or license number and they never thought to look. (these are two professional women)
My own cars. ... if I was a billionaire I'd still buy what I always have, a Toyota Corolla....and keep fixing up the Jeep....the Jeep is like a family member.

Shhhurre you would buddy.
If I was a billionaire tomorrow the only problem I would have would be keeping my license.
Let 'er rip OP. | |

| Middle aged man, new Camaro Posted: 6/22/2012 5:56:33 PM | | Either is fine... I know I dated a middle aged camaro guy and yes, my first thought was: mid life crisis. Once I got into the car though I changed my mind entirely, it is a great car, plain and simple. But a clean pick up is just a good in a different way. Yes, cars matter. A yucky car may not exactly stop you from continuing with someone but a nice car doesn't hurt. | |
|
| Middle aged man, new Camaro Posted: 6/22/2012 6:02:12 PM | A new Camaro, aaaah saaaweat!
One good way of filtering out the gold diggers is to drive the old pick up for the first meet. If she says she will go out with you on an actual date, then drive the Camaro. Good luck & enjoy your new car.
Side note; people definitely treat you differently when you are in a nice looking sports car, especially women.

However, you should clean out your truck even if no one but you is sitting in it.
to drive my clean but 6 year old truck for a first meeting or date?
He said it's clean. Why the negative comment?

| Middle aged man, new Camaro Posted: 6/22/2012 6:51:43 PM | Who cares what everyone says of thinks... Just enjoy your ride and do some burn outs for the fun of it... Now if you realy want to impress a girl... get your self a 1968 XKE convertable, Now thats a cool car for midlife... If she is not impressed then then who cares its still one of the real cool cars. | |
|
| Middle aged man, new Camaro Posted: 6/22/2012 7:29:51 PM | As Socrates said"Be as you wish to seem"....following this ,if you like it and feel good ...how can that not be right? Rock on brother! | |

| Middle aged man, new Camaro Posted: 6/22/2012 8:15:17 PM | Hey I would love a sports car. I saw a Porsche with MIDLIFE as a number plate and an old geezer got out in the cap and blazer. If you turn up in your truck to a first meet it doesnt matter. No sensible woman is going to get in it. But trucks dont turn me on, and a swanky car does impress some people so why not do all you can to be more desirable. They do denote the status of a male.
If there is no chemistry it wont matter what you drive, I would say. But going on dates in a truck is not something I would enjoy but maybe country gals dont mind.
|
| Middle aged man, new Camaro Posted: 6/22/2012 8:24:24 PM | | Take the truck. Make sure that it is clean. If you took the Camaro, I would think it was a penis extension. Save that for later. Just my humble opinion. | |
|
| Middle aged man, new Camaro Posted: 6/22/2012 10:18:53 PM | Its funny in a way, But guys just can't win. Take the truck and she might not even want to get in it. Take the camaro and they might think its your penis extension and need help in that department. Hey as another poster mentioned just start walking from your house to the place you meet them. Maybe you should get a Moped and ride that thing over.
Just do what ever YOU want. One thing I learned long time ago. If a woman wants to they would always come up with a few deal breakers. live for your self not for anyone else.
|
| Middle aged man, new Camaro Posted: 6/22/2012 10:36:06 PM | Pick her up with the penis extension. Errrr I mean Camaro.
Thank goodness it wasn't a Mustang. What the forumers would do with that one.

| Middle aged man, new Camaro Posted: 6/22/2012 11:01:33 PM | Do I have a mid-life crisis car? Oh heck yes...I have an Eclispse Spyder convertible...after years of driving a mom-mobile, I treated myself last trade in and it is a trip to drive.
OP... The new Cameros are sharp...especially the bright green ones. Take it on your dates and have fun.
|
| Middle aged man, new Camaro Posted: 6/23/2012 1:50:07 AM | | Ah, just give me a restored 1958 impala convertable with a little doo wop music on the radio....if she doesn't like it, won't matter much anyway, because I'll be so consumed with the car..I'll forget to pick her up. | |
|
| Middle aged man, new Camaro Posted: 6/23/2012 4:15:08 AM |
I'd be more thrilled if you showed up on your own two feet ---- Sure if you "happen" to live in the same neighborhood. But, I'm not walking 20 miles for a first meet and I'm guessing the OP won't either.
|
| Middle aged man, new Camaro Posted: 6/23/2012 6:52:02 AM | | I have a older Firebird that I am fixing up, I don't care if a woman thinks "mid-life crisis, it's a blast to drive. I also own an economy car and a pick-up truck. So I guess women who concern themselves with what a man drives will think differently about me depending on what vehicle I'm in that day. If a woman is that concerned about what I drive, she is more than welcome to buy me the type of car she wants me to have, lol. | |

We guys are impressed by a lady with a hot car too. I'm drooling just thinking about going for a ride. In the car I meant. I'll be quiet now.

| Middle aged man, new Camaro Posted: 6/23/2012 7:59:38 AM | Back in the day I had a '67 Camaro SS convertible with the 375 hp four bolt main 396 with a three barrel holley, a maunual transmission with a Hurst gear shift and a 4:10 rear end. No AC or power steering. GM just built a few of these and they were HOT. I wish I had never sold it. A couple of months ago I had some time on my hands and decided to go to a dealer and test drive a new SS convertible. Big mistake! Now I want one and am awaiting the ZL1 convertible to be available. Driving the new SS took me back to my '67. It was extremely nostalgic for me as I loved that car.
The interiors of the new Camaros are pretty chintzy. That is my biggest complaint. I guess I would like a few more paint options, too.
