Yea but you live in Manhattan. Where I live, you can't get anywhere if you don't have a car, which is the way it is in most places, unless you want to use public transportation, which is spotty at best and takes forever.

Used to live in Manhattan but retired and return home to the Island Of Montreal.. I rarely take public transportation except in the very cold winter months.. Our public transport is very good here.. However no reason to use it if the weather is over 10 degrees.. I just bundle up and head out with my stylish cart to shop..

I agree...drive the cleanest nicest car for a good 1st impression! I went on a date a few months ago...his truck stunk, the windshield was so bug splattered I could barely see out of it and the brakes were in really bad shape...squeaked & were grinding! Not a good impression at all! Basically it told me he doesn't care about his property and is lazy about cleaning his things & taking care of things.

The guy I'm interested in being exclusive with has a new Camaro, but our 1st date was in his '94 Chevy truck...looked brand new! Lifted, big tires...stunning!! Second date was in the Camaro. My daughter has one so I'm not that excited about it...I ride in one all the time with my daughter...no big deal! He has a Harley I can't wait to take a road trip on too! But his old truck...drool!! But that's just me!!! I about cried when he sold that '94 Chevy for a plastic stinking brand new Jeep Wrangler :(

My vote is with the majority on this one: if you took the trouble to make a COOL midlife crisis purchase (it's not like you're attempting to bone 16 y/o women, right?) Go ahead and ENJOY your Camaro. And enjoy the women who also enjoy your Camaro (it means they are pre-disposed to understand this aspect of you, right?) This is one of those situations where NO ONE IS GRADING YOU... have FUN.

First of all it should not matter what others think, other then you. If it offends your date or gives her the wrong impression you can end the "fake" interest right away. If you think it screams midlife crisis then you may give off that impression when you date. Honestly, if you like the car, have the car you have always wanted who cares what others think.Don't cow tow popular impression. Be yourself, enjoy the car and have a great date.

No, do not drive the truck. personally, i hate trucks. if there is one thing i do not understand is the male need for having a "truck." wtf? the truck is usually a horribly bumpy ride (ever try putting on mascara in a pick up truck? didn't think so! ), it looks stupid, there is always something bouncing around or rolling around in the back of the darn thing, there is no back seat to make out in, and why oh why oh why do guys put that stupid, trashy, gawd awful embarressing set of "balls" on the back of their trucks? gawd! nothing screams trailer then a pair of balls dangling on the bumper of the truck...

okay, i feel better now.

i don't like trucks.

I had a date with a man who pointed to his shiny red vehicle gleaming in the parking lot which I think he thought I would be impressed with. The date had been going decently before that. I got turned off when I saw what he was driving. The boys in my high school strived to get those vehicles. There was nothing wrong with the vehicle. It was obviously important to him and it did not do a thing for me. I chose not to contact him again. Our values were in different places. I'm pretty cerebral and don't get such a zing out of those things. Certainly a nice, reasonably new, reliable, clean vehicle is appropriate but a toy, not so much.

When I buy a new mattress, and I don’t wait to wait 10 days for the damned furniture store to deliver, and require that I take a day off of work and sit at the house all day. When my friend, who is starting life all over again after a divorce, asks my help in bringing home the “new” (used) washer and dryer he just bought at the thrift store. When we have one of our occasional monsoon rains, and the streets flood, and you have to sit at home to keep your new Camaro dry, I can still make it to work.

the truck is usually a horribly bumpy ride (ever try putting on mascara in a pick up truck?

As soon as I start wearing mascara, I’ll get back to you on that.

there is no back seat to make out in

My truck has a MUCH bigger back seat than any Camaro, come over anytime and I’ll be happy to show you!

and why oh why oh why do guys put that stupid, trashy, gawd awful embarressing set of "balls" on the back of their trucks? gawd! nothing screams trailer then a pair of balls dangling on the bumper of the truck...

Okay, you’ve got me on that one. Although I can think of two things that are worse that you often see on trucks here in the South. The first is a Confederate flag. And of course, the ultimate indicator of inbred stupidity, the bumper sticker reading “No fat chicks”.

PS: I actually like the new Camaros, they are pretty damned neat. And very fast!

This is getting funny lol Iknew I found the right man when he told me he had "truck envy". lol I love my truck, its clean and very cool. We were having coffee and getting ready to leave to go feed our respective horses, then meet for dinner, and when he saw my truck, it was like kizmit lol

That was 5 months ago, I bought a tractor since then, now he has tractor envy too. lol

so Camaro? Yeah, go for it.

I am car shopping now, and keep finding these 65 mustanges, 72 stingray vettes, 70 something nova, I am supposed to be looking for a practical car, but I have a feeling its not gonna happen. so is this my mid life crisis? lol

How long has it been since you were in a truck? Trucks are very smooth riding these days.

""How long has it been since you were in a truck? Trucks are very smooth riding these days."" I agree, nothing wrong with the truck of late, just as nice as many cars out there. And to answer the question regarding when was the last time she rode in a truck - probably about the same time she got rid of her capital letters, which is desrespectful to the reader. Nothing screams "princess" more than those that rant about what they won't ride in or what isn't an appropriate vehicle for their date to drive.

I think there is nothing wrong with the OP getting a new Camaro - good on you, have a ton of fun. And I don't think it screams mid-life crisis. A lot of us are done with kids, etc. and a bright shiney new car just migh be what some of us need.

May as well get a muscle car(sportscar-ugh! whatever) and enjoy it before all the little changes of the economy, fuel and energy restrictions, fuel and energy prices, transportation laws, environmental laws, socioeconomic trends(and more laws!) on dating, midlife crises, laws on being a guy, laws on freedom....add up to making it an impossibility.

The only MUST for a car for those living in the South, like Florida, is TINTED WINDOWS, and a TINTED WINDSIELD. The heat and UV rays are a killer down here. And yes, they can TINT your winshield now, its not noticeable, barely cuts down on the light, but significant infrared and UV protection.

That being said, A truck makes a statement about a person . . practical, hands-on, etc. A sports car says enjoys driving, especially driving fast. A motorcycle says adventurous. Your transportation does make a statement about you, and if you are driving a young guy's car when middle aged, it does evidence, a little at least, a middle aged crises.

But in the end, who cares. Nobody should drive a car to impress women. Only yourself is how I see it.

Already happening . . but lots of manufacturers are now going strictly to turbos to increase mileage and still get lots of power. BMW manufactured its last Inline 6 for the three series in November. Now, with the base line 3 series, you get a crummy four cylinder turbo. Maybe fast . . but loud and not nearly as smooth as what came before.

My dad used to take me to car shows as a little girl and I loved it. This has been a fun thread if for no other reason than to see all the women who love their trucks or are as much into muscle car cool-dom as much as I am.

And OP, I have yet to date a guy with a car or truck as cool (or clean) as my Spyder...closest I came was a guy with a Mustang (but it was not a convertible...what a waste...and he used it as a trashcan),...so if a guy showed up with a new clean Camero (or a 72 Chevelle SuperSport...lol), I would be tickled pink.

And Stargazin...I have seen those bull balls dangling from pick-ups around here and they are GROSS. My impression is that guys who hang them from their trucks usually don't have any of their own.
