How does a city slicker date in a country world?Page 2 of 2    (1, 2)
OP, I've been in a very similar situation. My thought is if you stay you can maybe find something, but moving would probably up your odds. If you're not in an area where you can really 'attract' then it can be tough. Real country girls shouldn't have much problem with you as you are--they would probably like it as a change from what they usually have to deal with. It's the poser country girls that need you to be 'country bubba' to make themselves feel country that are likely to snub you. I've been finding there are lots of the posers that need some corn-fed dude, with a truck with camo seat covers, an arm band tatt, goattee etc. that are desperately trying to fill an image. If you want you can try to dress/act like the wannabes...

i can't believe that a girl wouldn't want to date a guy that didn't drive a stupid pick up truck. i am sorry, i just dont' get it.

I don't know why it is THAT important for some. I've known a few that even required it to be diesel....some require it be lifted. I don't really get it either.

Oh I love your city slicker stereotypical view. Having a big truck, occasionally wearing camouflage, hunting and fishing, does not equate to redneck; Perhaps the mudding part though is a little redneckish. I love to go fishing on the occasion and I am no where near redneck. In fact I don't even have a southern accent. When people hear me they usually ask me where I am from and when I tell them I am from Arkansas they usually say something like "Why don't you have a country accent?"

Just because a girl is into a "country" guy doesn't mean she may not be into a "city slicker." I think if a lady bases her liking of a guy based off of if he is country or city then something is wrong. I would hope she would base it off of personality and physical attraction first rather than "Oh.My.Gosh he wears wranglers and boots! That's so the guy for me." or "He's such a hipster!! He's the one!"

You're not in the country. You're in Bowling Green. It ain't the big city, but it sure as heck ain't a one-horse town. Join some local groups. If that fails, you're an hour away from Nashville. Spend some time there.

How does a city slicker date in a country world?"
Getting what you want takes effort.
Knowing what what you want is actually harder than the effort it will take to get it.
I moved from Chicago at the age of 12 to Tennessesse...just outside of Nashville. Got my butt whipped a few times for going after the wrong young lady...Man they were too cute though (the ladies).
Join a DoJo "Wado Rye" is passive enough...a year down the road you'll not only be a local, you'll be the man. Go Road House dude.

I get the jist of what you are saying.

But just learn to love where you are at.

I went from living in a very big city (L.A), to a bohemian hippy island town, to a very southern, country-esque part of Florida. I am a city slicker turned free spirited southern belle. Love wherever you are at and let the culture seep into you, life is an adventure.

None of us are so unique that we can't find like-minded.

Be patient. While your area seems to be mostly populated by country types, trust me there ARE others like you who prefer the big city life.

I do think it's important though no matter where you live to learn to be tolerant and appreciative of others lifestyle choices.

Get a truck, buy some guns, fishing poles, wrestle a few alligators, get drunk, shoot road signs on Saturday night, knock up a couple of town floosies preferably at once. Hey dude, when in Rome, do as the Romans do. You can always revert back to your city ways, don't worry about child support, the floosies will get themselves half beat to death when their men get out of prison and miscarry anyway. The south is just great, ain't it?

I've lived city and country.

Lower population and less 'get laid' hangouts like bars and clubs means that dating in the country will be even more dependent on friends and activity groups. And while there are less women...there's less competition as well.

Really, your only hope is to listen to what Cowboy has to say. I'm the same as him...equally comfortable chopping firewood and using a skidoo in Northern Canada (I have him beat in the "winter" thing, at least), as I am at a Symphony or socializing with the "upper class".

If you don't want to live the country lifestyle, then frigging don't. What other answer could you possibly get?

helpmeahhh:

"And while there are less women...there's less competition as well."

That's not necessarily true. In a lot of rural areas the unattached women tend to trend 50 and older while the unattached men trend 40 and under. So there is a hell of a lot of competition among the under 40 guys, while the over 50 guys have it easy. This in spite of the gender ratio in the total population being around 50:50.

And if the gender ratio in your age range is skewed, it will be just as skewed in any activity group you get involved in.

yeah, the whole pick up truck thing is just so, um, i don't know, cliche? i mean, i get it. you need to haul things, or you need a good vehicle to get you around in the snow. but hey, do you have to have all this crap rolling around in the back? ugh! i hate pick up trucks. i also hate the whole goattee, tattoo, cut off sleeve t shirts, and dirty jeans look. the messy, unkempt hair, and the dingy baseball cap. ugh. it's such a turn off to me but that is the dating pool out here in the country. i am not saying that there arent' a lot of nice people here, but i just dont' find the whole "look" very appealing or attractive. i could never date a doughy man that wears the baggy cargo shorts that comes down past the knees, either. you know, they always put everything they can possibly think of in the pockets, and it just makes them look more doughy then they already are. ugh.

ugh.

Well, OP, my first thought is I'm right insulted by your characterization of southerners. Sometimes a truck, even a BIG truck, is just a truck. They come in handy at times. Try putting even a few sheets of rock or plywood in the back of a Fit or some other cute car. Also the camo does have its uses as well. And finally, your linking everything redneck and country together is foolish. It's time to grow up and paint with a smaller brush.

Now, to your actual question. Clearly you are fishing in the wrong place. Perhaps you've mistaken a cement pond for one of our natural wonders. In case you're confused, that's suppose to be a metaphor. Change up your game a bit. Meet some of the ladies over at the University. I'll bet some of those hilltopper gals can be just as bigoted and narrow minded as you about things country. After all, WKU is right smack dab in the middle of town.

While I no longer live in the area I did get married just up the road from you in Lexington. Nice place, Nice people, Nice country.

I wish you well, now change it up a bit.

I would have to agree about admiring his self!
I read cityslickers profile and find that he has said things in it and then shown his true self here..
small towns and country living do not necessarily mean small minds!! Maybe you should look more closely at yourself, and what you are truly looking for and rewrite your profile! You are not finding your type because your profile is very misleading, and very insulting to those of us either in the country or the city.

Go to the local ho downs. Once you get to know people at these ho downs, you might get to bang 3 generations of women and a few cousins along the way.

Plenty of people are "town and country."

I tend to rotate between several places. Urban hipster downtown megalopolis, Rural Piney Woods and the Gulf Coast beach. That doesn't even count the time I spend in funky, groovy, hippy-dippy Austin. Looking for a place there, too.

I'm still me where ever I go. I just change my footwear to suit the venue.

OP, like cowboy mentioned you do sound as though you don't have a lot of life experience and perhaps you should get some before you stereotype people who live in the country and pretend to know what you're talking about, lol.
I have relatives who prefer the country lifestyle and they do not drive pick-ups (they have one brand new truck and an Audi), they don't wear camo and never hunt. They are also extremely educated and very well off.

Some people just appreciate a more relaxed pace and a more peaceful environment opposed to the over-crowded rat race that city living tends to be. Maybe these country women not being interested in YOU is what has you taking a dislike, hmm?? Is that the real reason?

If you dislike it, simply move. You must be doing something wrong if you cannot control where you live.
Just saying...

OP, a day or two ago, you started a thread about girls not interested in you because you were focusing on your schooling and establishing a career, now you say girls aren't interested in you because you're a city slicker in a country world.

Maybe the reasons aren't so situational, but simply the way you yourself are approaching the girls?
