| | Text Message EtiquettePage 2 of 2 (1, 2) | At the opposite end of the continuum, I pulled out my smartphone to look up the history of the building we were having lunch in... two non-i-phone-addicts looked at me in horror at my rudeness, even though I explained what I was doing. I put the phone away (as soon as I got done looking it up).
I love being able to whip it out to settle a debate or answer a question on the spot. But it serves me, not the other way round.
Part of it is an evolution that people must work through at their own pace. (Similar to posting in a public forum.)
People with a gadget that's new to them will often obsess until they master it. Then it masters them. Then they return to somewhere nearer to normal. | |
