| | Favorite Guilty PleasurePage 2 of 4 (1, 2, 3, 4) | I've quit all forms of caffeine ie: pop, coffee, tea My bff is an emergency room doctor and states; caffeine reeks havoc on the body, wears your heart out faster, increases blood pressure, bad for the liver and irritates the colon. It takes 2 - 6 mos for the liver to detox from substances like caffeine.
I generally am VERY curious at the results are once I hit that 6 mos, or even a year, mark. I'm already noticing a difference. Not so groggy and slimmed down a bit. *thumbs up*
Back to topic... guilty pleasure ... ha! oh lordy... this Xmas when I do my baking is gonna be a real test of willpower! I miss my russian tea cakes already. *drools

My guy brought me a guilty pleasure today......(no.....not that!!) a caramel apple with nuts! Oh my, been a loooong time since I indulged in one.......and I made him eat half of it......but man, it was good!

Sometimes I buy that Marzettis Caramel sauce and Grannysmiths. It doesnt have that chewy, gooey factor to it though.

| Favorite Guilty Pleasure Posted: 7/24/2012 7:28:07 PM | we have a donuty type treat here that is apparently indigenous to thunder bay...i'm sure similar concoctions are created elsewhere...but here they are called..."persians"...its basically a sweet type of bread dough...not quite like a fritter...not quite like a bread...but they are shaped into palm sized pieces...and deep fried...oh yeah...the dough is laced with cinnamon...they are allowed to cool after deep frying...then they are iced...or frosted... the fosting itself is disgusting if you think of it in individual components...lard...(yes lard)...icing sugar...and some kinda flavoring...i think the flavor is red...(sposed to be strawberry i guess)... but these goodies are shipped and smuggled all over canada...if someone from thunder bay goes to visi friends in calgary for example...and doesnt have a box of a dozen persians...a beating is in order... but in keeping with the theme of this thread...(and the delight of heart specialists)...the best way to eat them IMHO is to cut them in half...(one half with frosting...one without)...slather them with butter and fry them as you would a grilled cheese...(on the cut sides only)...and eat with a knife and fork... once in a blue moon i eat these...for obvious reasons...but dayum they are tasty | |

| Favorite Guilty Pleasure Posted: 7/24/2012 7:52:54 PM | ^^^They sound like our Portuguese malasadas except they are never iced, only dusted with sugar or sugar/cinnamon. Leonard's is famous for them but whoever makes them they are popular. Meanwhile it's national tequila day. I would say that's my pleasure a few shots of Petron.

Even thinking of this delectable little morsel has me salivating for a piece... fortunately I have some that I've squirrelled away at home for a treat, so I'll raid my stash after work.

| Favorite Guilty Pleasure Posted: 8/11/2012 7:23:12 PM | ...Yanno, forgive me if I'm wrong, but I believe there's a little bit of caffeine in dark chocolate too. Just not enough to keep you awake at night!.
....Anywho, lately whenever I have a craving, I grab five slices of pepperoni, some mixed colby/jack cheese, a tortilla, and some Louisiana Hot Sauce. Slice the pepperoni in halves, line them up on one side of the tortilla, put a handfull of cheese on them, a dribble of Hot Sauce...and nuke for 36 seconds. Roll it..and it has the most chewy, gooey type of mouth feel satisfaction with a big piquant flavour.....I'm afraid I'm addicted to it.

| Favorite Guilty Pleasure Posted: 8/12/2012 11:28:16 AM | Ever since i watched a Foodnetwork show about chefs showing their favourite foods, I have fallen in LOVE with Elvis' Peanutbutter and banana french toast. I am already far too big, so i modified it and have seeded pitta bread, toasted lightly, with whole nut peanut butter and slices of banana, with a tiny sprinkle of Cappucino topping. Or peanut butter and cucumber in a seeded wrap Or peanut butter with just a spoon...Watching cookery shows in my pyjamas and drinking milk by the pint.
Oh Peanut Butter...crunchy golden heavenly delight. *sigh*
