| manly vs. unmanly foods Posted: 7/24/2012 8:44:06 AM | I get this all the time too.... normally it is just through my refusal to eat out or something.
For example group of us will be planning to go to the cinema and it will be a "Fancy a KFC first" I get a lot of crap for saying no. I always eat before I go out now and I will just join them and either eat something small (and as healthy as i can get) or suggest somewhere else where there is a health option.
A lot of it is just banter... just give it back.

I won't smoke or do drugs just because others do and I sure the heck won't eat garbage food because others do. The weirdest is when out and someone urges you to have a dessert...I don't even like sweet stuff unless it's fruit. Fortunately, however, most my friends tend to be health and fitness oriented...the garbage food eaters usually end up getting infuenced in a positive way.

| manly vs. unmanly foods Posted: 7/24/2012 3:32:41 PM | It’s not what’s on your plate; it’s the way you hold your fork and the way your pinky is up in the air when you sip your earl grey!
I’m JOKING!
Your healthy lifestyle confronts a lack in their lifestyle and rather than adjust their own life style they attack, (maybe kidding, & good naturedly, but an attack just the same), because a good offense can be a good defense. This happens when people join a gym, start an exercising program (like running etc), or change their diet.
I actually have the opposite comments because I don’t eat fruit and vegetables, except for a rare banana and even rarer piece of apple pie or a bit of apple sauce. So good luck raiding my frig! LOL All you would find is some condiments and milk. A vegetable has not cross my lips in 40 + years! Potatos don't count, they are a tublar and a side order to meat! lol
Whenever a person is different there seems a need to comment.
The docs have always told me to keep doing what I was doing as far as blood pressure and cholostroil, (Jus know I spelled that one wrong) they did want me to eat greens for calcium but I flat out told them that just wasn't gonna happen, so supplements and milk and ice cream I go! Hmmmm ice cream!

A knew a person who enjoy eating frozen, chocolate covered bananas.yummm.
Yet only ate it side ways to keep it look un whatever.....lol
Too your health,& don't worry about the rest..............

| manly vs. unmanly foods Posted: 7/25/2012 5:17:08 AM | I don't see foods as manly or unmanly. I'm not going to comment on someone else's food choices unless it's, "Oh wow that looks good, can I sneak a bite?" and I expect the same kindness in return.
Don't comment on my food choices when I eat in public, as I'm often treating myself.
However, I used to get teased when I'd eat a banana with chocolate pudding by dipping the banana in the pudding, but that's different.
... where has this idea been all my life?! I usually dip bananas in melted chocolate, but pudding is like... skipping the whole annoying 'melting the chocolate chips in the microwave' step!

| manly vs. unmanly foods Posted: 7/25/2012 1:41:59 PM | I don't know ... when I observe someone making healthy choices, I think more highly of them !
Hold your ground, and your health ! And let THEM just get over it !

| manly vs. unmanly foods Posted: 7/26/2012 1:31:46 PM | OP I've taken crap during lunch with the boys pointing at my plate.
I never heard it on the field when they were out of breath though. Maybe you can confront them with a bit of education when it comes to nutrition. This should help steer them in the right direction.

| manly vs. unmanly foods Posted: 7/26/2012 1:38:24 PM | | ^ Educating people does not work in these situations. People for the most part do not want to hear it and certainly do not follow advice. Better solution ? Maybe just ignore it. Let people **** all they want. You know they just feel stupid anyway because they are sitting there with something not healthy and probably overweight feeling stupid. If people make remarks to me about food I just smile. It does no good to try to explain much. People who do not eat the way * you * do don't get it. | |

What you have to do is slather a banana with nutella
When I was a teen I visited cousins in Montreal and then they came to visit us in southern France. i had never had peanut butter and my cousin my age had never had nutella. Peanut butter was so good! After that we'd send each other jars. A few years later we could both get each other's 'stuff' in our own country but that made it lose a bit of the magic.

Nutella! Hey, what ever makes your boat float!
I hear the good folks at Nutella are being sued again for false ingredients! Shocking in what 'Big Food' is up too again in fooling the public. cheers!

oh you’re right, there is *nothing* more manly than a big fat gut and a jowly face. Go ahead and shovel those onion rings into your fat yap and see where it’ll get you in the long run.
I think them calling you girly man may have more to do with you not saying anything like what you wrote above... to them, but instead saying it all to us here.. on a forum??? You tell them that just like you typed it and you won't have a problem. And about that Salad, bring a salmon pack or tuna pack with you and throw it on top. Just a salad is a little girly. LOL (kidding... sorta)

| manly vs. unmanly foods Posted: 9/10/2012 7:54:58 AM | Once I ordered Pasta alla carbonara and there were bets going around the table if I would have a heart attack right there or later?
I just had to try something that combined that many high calorie fat sources.
You must have an odd group of guys, most of the professionals I worked with really were watching what they ate, and that was 30 years ago.
Maybe people have gotten more ignorant over the last 30 years, that is possible.
Pasta alla carbonara (usually spaghetti, but also fettuccine, rigatoni or bucatini), is an Italian pasta dish based on eggs, cheese (Pecorino Romano or Parmigiano-Reggiano),bacon (guanciale or pancetta), and black pepper. The dish was created in the middle of the 20th century. The pork is cooked in its own fat then hot pasta is dropped into the pan to finish cooking for a few seconds. A mixture of raw eggs, cheese, and a fat (butter, olive oil, or cream) is then combined with the hot pasta away from additional direct heat to avoid coagulating the egg, which must remain a liquid component of the sauce as it cooks.A mixture of raw eggs, cheese, and a fat (butter, olive oil, or cream) is then combined with the hot pasta.

I drink martinis and I prefer them with tiny umbrellas.
