New World Order (LOL!) New Old World
I got it, I'd have a big globe atop the restaurant and simply call it "One World" and every quarter hour that Dire Straits song "One World" would come on.

| Open Your Fantasy Restaurant, What Would It Be?? Posted: 10/31/2007 6:16:43 PM | I would love to have a traditional tea shop on one hand, a place that has chocolate in every recipe or a restaurant whose menu serves wine as the main course with a set complimentary food choice to supplement it.
I suspect the wine restaurant would win though.

Alternatively, I would love to have a take out place where people could buy meals for their families that were freshly made, virtually from scratch, specifically for them. Like order your meal by 2, pick it up before 7. That way you get quality home made food with less preservatives, but still get to have dinner at home with your family. And for people with food intolerances, they could know EXACTLY what they're eating...

I've seen so many of these types of restaurants fail because corners get cut, the recipes get **stardized and the food turns out so-so. I'd like to do it right, and I have the recipes to prove it!
Mind you, I did recently eat at one in Kelowna, BC that impressed me. The Baha-style Fish Tacos were about a 4/5 (lost half a point for not including salsa verde).

And of course beef cake would be served!

| Open Your Fantasy Restaurant, What Would It Be?? Posted: 11/1/2007 6:15:51 PM | I like this idea, I've actually thought about it.
Since alot of Italian Americans on the East Coast have a connection back to Naples I'd open an Italian place with Napoli/Sicilian food since most of them around NYC and NJ aren't Napoli theamed.
It would have typical Naples dishes, pizza which appeared in Naples first has to be included of course, mozzarella, spaghetti, sfogliatelle, casatiello, tortano, struffoli, pastiera, babĂ and many other dishes. Neapolitan wines and spirits include Lacryma Christi, red/white wine Vesuvio and Limoncello. And Naples is known for it's gelato to finish off dinner.
Then famous Sicilian dishes would be, Tonno alla palermitana, Il timballo del gattopardo ,gattopardo, caponata and maccu di San Giuseppe l
All the Chefs would either come from Naples and or Sicily, each region has it's own different taste and way of cooking. Something similar to what the Olive Garden does, they send people from America to Italy to learn to cook.
You cannot match authentic taste that way. Directly from Italy is the only way.
The outside and inside of this place would just be like the Italian style community they build here in Jersey by the name of Villagio. Except everything there is based from Tuscany.
Roman statues, Napoli and Sicilian styled architect. Would be a big wide open patio with sidewalks and full of many things, small water fountains, benches, flowers and soft Italian music playing in the background to make it a relaxing night for everyone.
The patio would be wide open, that way people can enjoy the night sky, but if rain comes...a retractable roof as to not ruin everything and keep everyone dry.
Possibly walking through the main dining area all the way to back doors would lead to an outdoor area for eating, so people can have fresh air if they would like. It would be a little less private, but the tables still spread far enough while the inside would be more private for people.
Fridays and Saturday nights would feature an Italian group singing outside in the back where the out door dining area is
There has been no restaurant like this. There are hotels and communities with an Italian theame showcasing Italian beauty but no Italian restaurant that is open, big enough for people to take in everything that there is to offer.
Would be a special place where people would want to eat there on special occasions and not just to go there and make every meal as it were the best one they have ever had.
Still plenty more but just a small idea of what I had in mind.

In the basement there would be a restaurant/lounge area where people can just chill and grab a bite to eat. It would be super swanky and play more mellow music. There would also be a huge wine cellar. Main floor would be a standard dance bar, regular dance/trance/top 40 type music. There would also be a shooter bar. Upstairs would be for 'theme nights' and live bands. So there would be like salsa night or rock night or whatever. Patrons would have access to all three levels, the restaurant would have a separate exit and entrance and only people with reservations would be allowed in during bar hours (the lounge area would be accessible to everyone at all times).\\
Edit: I forgot to add, the top floor would have a beer bar with the widest selection of beer in the city.

There are tons of comfy couches with throws and pillows, darts etc. and lots of comfort food.
Emphasis will be on the tropics as I am Jamaican but it will tie in with a range of other flavours....East meets West kinda thing.....
Upstairs, is a nice warm and cozy eating place where you can get just about anything your heart desires and once a month we give our patrons the option to build a meal with anything they want and pick a winner. That recipe will be featured for a month.
Downstairs in the basement, you can go dancing or sit and have a drink and watch a live band.
This has been my fantasy restuarant idea since grade 9 when our teacher gave us the assignment.

| Open Your Fantasy Restaurant, What Would It Be?? Posted: 11/3/2007 10:35:24 AM | Strictly as a fantasy -- I worked in food service and don't have the energy for it anymore... A Comfort Food Cafe.
Coffee house & espresso bar, large selection of teas, lots of books and classical jazz, live music on weekends, a very short regular menu of basics- light salads, variety of cold sandwiches, a couple of different soups, plus the Garlic Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup Blue-plate special.
Small selection of appetizers for snacks, then a daily comfort food dinner... Sunday Chicken & Dumplings, Fish Fry Fridays, that sort of thing. Vary the cuisine daily, and have only one or two options per day. Or even better ONE choice for the dinner, you eats what's served or go hungry, just like mom used to make Maybe breakfast too- same take it or leave it stuff- Blue-Plate scrambled eggs, bacon, toast & taters.
There actually was a place in Chicago that did something similar- a small yogurt and ice cream shop that had a nightly dinner- from 6 to 8pm you took what they had or didn't eat. AND you had to be one of the only 20 or 30 that got a dinner because that's all his kitchen could cook for. They'd hold you a dinner if you called first, but no such luck for walk-ins. IIRC, it was a fixed price thing- $3 or 4 for dinner, dessert was extra, two different appetizers- fried cheese sticks or scotch eggs at about $1. You could get quite stuffed for under $6 with tip.

| Open Your Fantasy Restaurant, What Would It Be?? Posted: 11/3/2007 11:28:37 AM | Mine would be an open-air, tiki-bar style seafood restaurant on a solitary pink sand beach in Bermuda. Diners would hear the lulling waves of the ocean, feel the cooling breeze and watch as the sun sets in a fire of pinks, reds and oranges. All of the seafood would have been caught just hours before serving. There would be an endless array of appetizers, wines and lush fruits for dessert.
My chefs would be (in no particular order) Anthony Bourdain, Eric Ripert and Rocco DiSpirito.
Shirtless.
This is a fantasy, right?

| Open Your Fantasy Restaurant, What Would It Be?? Posted: 11/3/2007 6:35:53 PM | Hold on to your arteries. Mine would be a restaurant that only made fried foods. Yep, greasy, fattening fried foods. I would have chicken wings, cheese sticks, onion rings, mushrooms, shrimp, potato skins..........and lots more, all deep fried. The only beverage on the menu would be ice cold beer. | |

Hope you take out a huge public liability insurance policy or have customers sign a no liability disclaimer upon placing their orders

Featuring foods from the spiciest cuisines in the world. Not everything is spicy by any means. An intimite food court with a bar, seperate kitchens and cooks for each cuisine, waiters, full menus for each kitchen. Vegan friendly ofc, dedicated no-meat utensils and all :)
Ethiopean, Thai, Szechuan, Indian, Cajun, Jamaicin.... I know I'm still missing a continent or 2 but you get the idea :)
thank goodness its a fantasy, cause it would either need to seat like 300, cost 40$ a plate, or be a tax write off.
