I had a friend who married someone similar and received somewhere around $30,000 dollars. She ended up sleeping with him and had 6 children by him when all was said and done. Oh well, just more people to add to the gene pool.

Sounds like she got her $30K's worth, Jay. Sounds like it worked out for the best. That is great.

Down here in the bottom end of Africa (South Africa) - the standard Nigerian email scams ('deposit money in order to 'free up' some larger amount) tend to be more commonplace than the russian brides thing.. Although I do see in local SA dating sites, there seem to be a vast supply of barely literate female from the Ukraine, who all somehow manage to have studio-quality pictures of themselves available :)

It is just a loop hole that will stop when people or banks wait long enough for the money orders to clear. Some banks like Citizens Bank will not let you have the cash till the postal money order clears. If the amount is minimal you won't get sued by the bank since it is not worth the lawyers fees.

Fraud victims typically feel overwhelmed by shame, guilt, embarrassment, and self-directed anger. Don’t blame yourself. You are the victim; the blame rests on the person who conned you. If you have made a mistake, admit that to yourself, and then move on with your life. Do not conclude that you are stupid. Remember that swindlers successfully defraud highly intelligent people—heads of State, bank managers, executives, finance managers, attorneys, and others.

Ok so an acquaintance of mine starts talking to this girl online on a dating site, he falls super hard for her. She is 19 and from Russia and SUPER hot! he is in his 30s and she starts to tell him that she is head over heels in love with him and asks him to come and meet her in Russia so that if it works out they will marry, since she totally wants to be married to him and only him. For me this was a huge warning sign.I tell him to be careful because a lot of those women are just looking for a meal ticket, so he forwards me her profile to check her out since he is so "proud" of the fact that she is interested in him. I check it out she looks like a model and could get any guy she wanted. She also sends him racey emails and really knows how to work him telling him she will treat him much better than any american woman will etc. . When I looked at the profile for some reason she looks really familiar...Not even two days later (this actually happened) I am watching tv and this make-up commercial comes on...who is the girl in the ad? the same girl in the picture attached to the profile of this Russian babe. LOL This was not a famous model by the way...As it turns out she was indeed in Russia since her emails would come out of a Russian email address but she was not at all who she said she was, obviously.

Guys, a little word of advice...if it seems too good to be true ie., if there is no chance in hell a girl like that would give you the time of day out in the real world....chances are she is too good to be true. Reality check... and no one gets hurt.

you can't handle me...sorry to hear that you were scammed hun, you gotta be careful...everyone should be.

last summer i was known as p.i. pony (ponygrl). my friends called me that because of what i was doing. i was playing a deadly game of cat and mouse with the scammers. one of them i had him trust me (i'm an honest person, wouldn't hurt anyone but i knew who this guy was) and when he was having probs with is yahoo he gave me his password to help fix the problem. he told me how much he was in love with me, how he wanted nothing more but to be with me. he asked me for my address so i figured what the hell, it's yet another way to catch him....he sent me a beautiful bouquet of flowers, a teddy bear, 3 balloons and a box of chocolate. a few days later he asked me if i can do him a favor. in the mean time i did some of my own private investigative work and pulled it off. i went into his yahoo, changed the password enough for me to dig out some info...stolen credit card information, names, addresses, and phone numbers of other women plus myself. i never said a thing to him. anyway, i told him that i would help him out with his favor. he wanted to me to receive then forward a shipment of men's clothing, shoes and watches to send to him. the day i received the clothes i also received a dozen long stem red roses, another teddy bear, and another box of chocolate. he emailed me the shipping label that was not legible and the post office would not deliver.....i wasn't sending the clothes to him anyway. they all went back to the proper stores (old navy & guess)....a week later comes another delivery....12 pairs of women's 4" spikes from frederick's of hollywood...they went back as well. i contacted all of the people that i found the credit card information told them all to put a stop on their credit cards, called the stores and told them not to accept any email accounts from a specific ip number via yahoo, called the nigerian fbi as well as the us fbi, sent them duplicates of the information i have....yes, i still have the original info, pics of the merchandise, the shipping labels, and the nigerian scammer....i really messed up his black market sale.

another guy sent me a check for $4600, wanted me to cash it, keep 10% myself and wire him the rest of the money. nahhh, i got the check, ip numbers and everything else on him as well. the check was that of a money order used back in 2000, the numbers on the top right corner and the bottom row didn't match (1 too many numbers), no such account. good thing i used to be a check cashing assistant manager to know what i was looking for. that also went to the nigerian fbi and us fbi.

in either case, i'm not sure if anything was done since once the emails and copies left my hands i haven't heard anything. if and when they decide to get off their lazy a$$es and ask me to email them the pics i'll do that but i'd much rather have them personally come to my home for the information with the proper id or i'll shoot them if they try to hurt me.

OH, my God... I just finished with a scam from a woman in South Africa, Cape Town named Tana Luca Jones and she and I were exchanging details until she told me she was coming over and that I should call her on her cell. Up to this point it was just emails. I called her and she was very nice and said she needed to check for visa requirements and I needed to send her half the plane fare, so I said I would consider that; let me know what that is.
I got another email from her to say I needed to contact this man who will expedite her paper work in a week but I needed to purchase the plane ticket from him. I knew than that this was a scam. My heart was broken but you know, I didn't loss any money over it.
What is really incredible is that I GOOGLE'D her name just before leaving for work, on a hunch, and up came this guy's name with hers. It happens to be a guy from New York who was having a email thing with this same woman. I emailed him and asked his connection to her. After work his email response was the same thing, email relationship and that she needed him to send her money for airfare. Well, He gave me his phone number and email address and I called him. He was hurt very much by this revolation but thanked me for contacting him and letting him know. I did another GOOGLE search for this woman that night but the connection to this man was no longer there. He would have sent this woman a lot of money and than never seen her or the money. I saved him from this and It ended up that we both came away from this a whole lot wiser about dating sites. BE CAREFUL ABOUT OVERSEAS CONNECTIONS. THEY ARE MOST LIKELY FRAUDULENT. Good luck to everyone in finding that special one.

Girls they are out there...you get pictures, believeable story line, and then when you nail it all down you find out that it's all fake. So, be careful....play it safe...now I chat and then want to talk on my cell...no home phone...most of the time find they are Mexican when they say from KY or TN...no way. They will call, but check out the number...too many digits and check area codes, even international. Had one supposely from TN with a Ghana West Africa area code. Also check out name of town in profile....some don't exist. Ask questions....do your homework and find out what you can about where they live. Might try yahoo messenger with phone and web cam. That way you can see and hear at the same time. Chatted on yahoo messenger with first scam for over a month, he travel to Nigeria for his "job", got robbed, then started begging for money.....Hell, I wouldn't give money to a total stranger...not even my own mother...what kind of idiots do they think we are?
BE CAREFUL! If it sounds to good, it probably is.

uk, i know of quite a few women that went to jail because of scammers. these women were so naive they were cashing counterfeit checks for these guys and wiring them the money less 10% for themselves.

i self educated myself with some of these guys by watching them in other sites, seeing what they were posting to other women and reading between the lines. i sat back and didn't say anything and waited for them to contact me.

money is tight for everyone regardless of where you're from.....nigeria is a black market country that's very poor and depend on people outside of their country to help them with money and clothes and even jewelry. if you talk to these people in email and you feel as if you're being scammed there's a site where you're able to find out where their ip numbers are originating from.

when i worked as a check cashing asst. manager we had a saying...."when in doubt throw them out!" use that for possible scammers too!

OMG this is a topic that seriously pisses me off... I hate when this happens... most are just seeking moneyand will give you some scam or sad story about their child is sick and need the money for an operation to save their live when in fact there is no child they just extorting money from you....

I have seen it time and time again and they are many on the dating sites.. this one i have not had that problem with but others I have... I never send anyone money for any reason so I am exempt but if you pay close attention to how they talk and what they say you will catch on quick... never send money to anyone you dont know and most times to those you do... if you watch even when they tpe the laungauge is broken and they will tend to be affectionate... the men live in america but work out of the country... now this does actually happen but you have to know how to read them best thing to do is let them do most of the talking and you read carefully and listen they will trip their own self up.....common sense goes a long way and should you ever find one contact the site you on and report it.. not that it will do alot of good but they will watch it close...

I used to work for a government agency that was often mistaken for a branch of the INS. I helped answer phones every day.

About 1/2 of the calls I recieved were from people trying to turn someone into the INS for sham marriage (that is someone who had married them for the sole purpose of getting a green card).
