You know, we can't be all that surprised that Word Games was deleted. All in all, since its inception earlier this year, it has been the dumping ground for threads that drew a large number of responses, including, but not restricted to "the person above" types of threads. Also, it has been well documented that Admin and the moderators hate those threads, so packaging them up in one central location eased the headache on the rest of the forums and made it easier to keep them clean.
I'm sure Word Games was a headache to moderate, because no-one even tried. The only efforts made by moderators to clean this forum was on a complaint basis. This was another signal that it was being earmarked for destruction, because Sex & Dating merited two local moderators, Ontario merited two local moderators, yet despite the traffic, Word Games had none.
So, while I am disappointed that Word Games and the posters who made it up have been bundled up as unceremoniously as a hefty bag of trash and deposited in the waste heap out back, I am not surprised that it happened. Keeping with the garbage bag theme, it does seem in hindsight that that forum was created as a large trash receptacle, waiting to get full enough for one major purge.
I, for one have no regrets and am anxiously awaiting the next forum to be deleted. Could it be the infamous Sex & Dating? Or perhaps Relationships? Because we all know that those two topics have as much to do with the whole dating scene as interpersonal communication......aka Word Games.
What about, "there should have been more people not breaking the rules"?
Had the chat stayed in that forum, it might have been ignored for a while longer, ....but that's not how it worked out, ....like the ill-fated chat room, ....it spread to the other forums.
This is a problem that self-moderating would have solved, not more moderators.
Late, you've given some food for thought so to speak in regards to the numbers and your various points of view regarding the Word Game forum. I'm still disappointed that is was taken off without any real warning. Perhaps if something had been mentioned that the forum was being used incorrectly and that if steps weren't taken to change the way people were posting that you would then delete this forum. I'm sure you would have seen a change in the way people were posting on this forum. Personally all the people who I have met (From Australia to Texas and all points in-between) and e-mailed with have all been encountered here on the Word Games. I would have to say that most of us posting here would have abided by your warning as we all had fun on this forum and wouldn't have wanted to see it deleted. As for the other forums I have gone on them but they are generally posts few and far between and you can't really get a good sense of what kind of person they really are. With the word games it gave people a chance to "let loose" so to speak and show their true selves which is what attracts different people to each other.
I would like to suggest that perhaps this Word Game forum be re-established for a trial period and if in that time there have been no improvements to the "rule breaking" that caused it to be deleted in the first place then to remove it all together. I'm sure that you've seen enough of these posts to show that there is a genuine interest to return the Word Game form for a trial run and if everyone here wants to keep the threads going then it would be our responsibility to keep the forum on topic without breaking the rules.
I truly enjoy the site and will remain on it as I have met some really good friends who I like to stay in contact with via the e-mail, however please do take into consideration the request to re-instate the Word Games and all the members who do post and have a great interest in this website.

Like emailing them and telling the to stop? .... tried that, it didn't work. I've sent out chat warnings every day for a long time, few people actually stopped because they'd go back into "Word Games" and see others getting away with it and then bring it back out into the other global forums. I have no idea how many chat posts I've deleted, ....quite a few thousand by now........
A) No *Thread may exist designated exclusively for Response from a specific Gender, Ethnicity, Orientation, Religion, Public, etc. Such a Thread will be deleted. The entire Concept of a *Forum is for anyone to post their Opinions and Thoughts, providing they are On-Topic, on any Threads he or she sees fit.
As an Example:
...This is a Question ONLY for the Men to... = No Good!!!
...This is a Question for the Men to... = Is OK!!!
Further, any Threads or *Topics that cause a similar Type of Polarization may also come under Review on a Case by Case Basis .
I agree that you've had your hands full of various people chatting on the forums as not everyone uses them properly and unfortulately we have to suffer the consequences of their actions.
What about my idea to have it re-instated for a "trial-run" to see if things improve over the next week or so and then see whether we have been able to control the "chatting" on the forum? I'm sure that if you put it back up for a week or two you would get a good indication as to whether things have indeed changed or not. Simply call this a warning to the people who are chatting on the forum.
another thing... and this is what I NEVER understood for ANY site, so I'm not singling POF out for this one... how come people can't just talk about anything? why does it have to be on the topic? it should have been let people talk all they want about anything (but stay somewhat on topic) and if anyone reports anyone, THEN do something about what they reported. For everyone... what about the people who DIDNT do anything? (NOT me. I messed up a LOT, so I'm a guilty party of that) but for the few who stayed within the boundaries and tried to have fun without doing anything wrong? THEY shouldn't get punished for something we did.
Hey If ya need band width get ahold of me (seriously). Make's sense.
Still a drag though. Mod's are supposed to mod. Aren't rule breakers a form of job security for y'all? With no rule breakers there would be no need for mod's. I'm sure this will all work out. Hey where do we go to play here now? I reall don't wanna leave but if there's an acceptable forum that you may suggest...do tell. 'Till then I'll swim aimlessly in the pond. I agree a pond does gather "scum" and it must be cleaned. But where do you put the fish while you are cleaning up?
If you looked at the # of posts and the number of views. Views were always way above posts. Isn't that a good thing?. Just because people didn't join in doesn't mean the words didn't draw people to pof. It's all about the money, who's zooming who?
What if you are in a relationship already and want to BS with someone from... I don't know... Australia! How would you be in a FUN thread where you can do that? The forums are the only thing that is holding me to this site. I met someone here, and if it wasn't for the forums, I wouldn't want to stick around... now what? it isn't the same...
Somehow I knew it would come back to that, Late...
I never said anything about chatting with people. If you check my posts, one thing I was certainly not guilty of was chatting. I just meant that it was a good way to put it out there that you were interested in someone. The IM feature on this site blows, and emails are extremely hard for some people to write. Word Games was just a good way to "get the ball rolling" with someone... Anyway, I think I'm done in here. I've made my points and saying any more will prolly get me banned.
One last thing: I hope Admin takes some of this into consideration. I realize that he has final say in all that goes on here and will, as always, abide by the rules set forth. I just think that the forums are boring without Word Games. That's a personal impression of mine, so I don't expect it to hold any weight...
Another thing to consider if you like facts and figures , look at the tens of thousands of people who would view these various threads in the word games threads, not all of the word game fans were posters obviously . I still believe it is/was probably one of the things that generated such enthusiasm for the site. I wish I had the specs for the number of "views " each of the word game threads got , but I remember alot were well into the 5 digits/ per thread. and I know alot were repeat views from posters , but alot had to be also from spectators too. So I would think it would be impossible to fully realize the full positive impact that category of forums had.
That doesn't even make any sense!! I think that you can see the majority of us are from all over the place, here in Texas all the way to Blue eyes in Canada. If you are going to allow us to have a limited number of threads, such as the three...that is awesome. I am sure we will all appreciate that, however if we are expected to only post with those in our state, why don't we just IM??? Isn't that basically what this will be??? According to your statistics there are only about 50 of us that are super upset with this, what are the odds that we are located in the same state?? Just give us a limited number of threads! Clean em up daily...we can deal with that, right POF'ers????????
Late said- "Here, I'll even give you a link to "somewhere to come play word games, chat , make friends and talk about stuff", it's even called "A Fun Place To Be"
I thought there was something in the rules about posting links? You're not supposed to do that right?? I was banned then deleted previously when the proxy server I have to use here in Iraq to access plenty of fish posted links just like this... isn't that no more of an infraction of the rules than the example above?
[Nope - check the Rules. Explains it clearly. /xander]
