| who is the number 1 sporting legend? Posted: 7/14/2007 8:31:15 AM | It is truly hard to really determine the number one Sporting legend. One must consider how big this person is all over the world rather then just Canada or the States. Not to mention the persons career achieve ments. I would have to say for me it would be:
Hockey-Wayne Gretzky Baseball-Babe Ruth Football-Brett Favre or Joe Montana Soccer- David Beckham or Pele Basketball- Micheal Jordan or Magic Johnson Boxing-Muhammdi Ali or Mike Tyson Golf-Tiger Woods Cycling- Lance Armstrong Nascar-Dale Earnhardt F1-Michael Schumacher MMA-Royce Gracie

| who is the number 1 sporting legend? Posted: 7/14/2007 12:36:16 PM | Beckham might be a good player and good for marketing, but no way he could be thought of as the best ever. Heaps of players can be ranked above him.
Maradona, Cruyff, Beckenbaur, Zidane, Ronaldo, Baggio to name some.

| who is the number 1 sporting legend? Posted: 7/14/2007 1:14:03 PM | | True enough, but when you define a sporting legend Beckham will truly be rembered as one when it comes to soccer. Yes, he diffently is not the best player in the sport, but he is one of the most recognizable faces of the sport. He was also one of the top players in the English Premier league for a while. | |

| who is the number 1 sporting legend? Posted: 7/15/2007 5:50:49 AM | Greatest sports legend implies someone of legendary status without necessarily being the best at his sport. Muhammad Ali was never really as good as his legendary status. For being The Greatest, he lost a lot of fights. Sure, he won it 3 times, but if he was as great as he's supposed to be, he should have only had to win it once ! Joe Namath: People still think he's the only quarterback who ever won a Super Bowl. Namath's career stats were average at best. Michael Jordan : I don't want to take away from his excellent ability and he was certainly one of the best ever. BUT, he never did anything Julius Erving didn't do 1st. and better. | |

| who is the number 1 sporting legend? Posted: 7/15/2007 6:48:18 AM | Well I agree with Junipermoon, it has to be Big Red, Secretariat. He won everything going away and he was a fun horse who had a personality. As big as a Clyde he would often pull tricks on his handlers and friends. I bet on his last race here in Canada, The Queens Plate run in a cold rain, and I am sorry I sold his winning ticket to a collector when I needed the money.
Even if he had lost his finale, the horse world would still love him.

| who is the number 1 sporting legend? Posted: 7/15/2007 7:03:53 AM | i think the all time sporting legend should be able to clean his own stall- just me a horse?
there was this turtle i heard about-won every turtle race form 1976 to 1984 in state fairs from arkansas to nebraska to alabama to georgia no other turtle could even touch him-he won the twenty foot races by an average of 12 turtle lengths he actually set the all time record of 14 minutes, 34 seconds ( i know i know -FAST!!!) outside of louisville that is THE standard by which all other turtle races are compared
big green they called him
people questioned his diet-which was varied from the usual turtle fare of "stuff" to a protein shake his owner made him from the local hippie/weightlifting/health food store but no theory ever advanced beyond the rumor stage and big green actually "drowned" mysteriously in 1986 after being sold to an asian turtle soup store so ...no turtle body was recovered for testing
crowds loved him-especially the 25 yr old women with martian fetishes -they used to scream for "big green"
so if we are allowing horses in the debate in a serious way then...i would like to cast a vote for that wicked lightning fast reptile from athens, georgia...
big green the turtle machine

| who is the number 1 sporting legend? Posted: 7/15/2007 10:24:25 AM | Big Green, ah yes, but he had a typical terrapin personality that worsened in old age. He never was able to come out of his shell, as it were. Soon he began to lose the winner's edge and stick his neck out. When he found himself flat on his back after the fame went he just gave up. Rumour has it that he's a model for a garden statuary somewhere in suburbia.
His kids went on to make a few Ninja movies and become shills for a pizza chain. Celebrity is so fleeting.

| who is the number 1 sporting legend? Posted: 7/15/2007 1:59:20 PM | Dale Earnhardt has put himself in that category as a NASCAR driver.. There will never be another Michael Jordon on the basketball court. Willie Stargell was awsome for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Remember Spread a little chicken on the hill with will? He gave away free chicken every time he hit a homer! | |
